Just to confirm on this end, we indeed do not plan to continue with in-game messaging for items such as this (though we will still message if the server is going down, for example). We understand this was not appreciated or desired, and will find better ways to message limited Crown Store items that do not interfere with your gameplay experience.

Just to chime in. This is good to hear. I understand you guys wanted to make us aware of the mount. (heck I picked it up right after seeing it in the launcher) But there are so many more creative ways that you could make us aware of limited time items, or even just new items. An in game mail is of course the most obvious one. I'd honestly prefer not to see ads on the loading screen though.

Side note, you guys really should look into implementing a way to purchase crowns without having to exit the game and open a browser. As well as looking into saving card information and tethering it to players accounts. That way we just have to enter our card security code, when we want to purchase crowns. A simpler purchasing process means happier customers and more money coming your guys way, which will hopefully in turn translate into more content faster.

But in short. I do understand the move toward buy to play and the implementation of the crown store. As a player who has subscribed in launch I do feel that I was cheated a bit on my previously payed time though, and I know I am not alone, but I am sure there was good reason for this shift, and I am actually enjoying the crown store. But please keep in mind the principles you guys started with when you set out on creating this entry into the franchise and I think that you will do well.

Which ultimately is all the folks on these forums want, we want the game to do well.

    Thanks.

Just put a merchant selling these at each undaunted enclave. He could have them in a cage, or hell, be fighting one off with a lion-tamer whip =)

When a player interacts with the merchant, he could tell some story about how the beast was brought in from some far-off region of "somewhere" blah blah blah. And then just accept crowns for the payment instead of gold. The merchant could also say that he will only be in town for a couple of more days..

This would be a hell of a lot more immersive, and probably sell more mounts than the yellow text.

@ZOS_JessicaFolsom Thank you for committing not to do the cross-screen ads again. Those really broke my heart over this game. Will you be offering subs a way to opt-out of in-game ads (excluding launcher and Featured section inside Crown Store)?

    Thanks!

As a side note, there is a mechanism whereby you can force the launcher as a prerequisite for running the exe. Something to think about.

Best news I've seen all day. Thanks for listening to us!
You must have had a pretty lousy day if this is the 'best' thing you've heard.

    Sad.

ZOS announcement is fine, but seriously, this was a classic First World Problem of massive proportions!

You're playing an online video game. ALL of our problems are first world problems.

Why would I want to be forced to use the launcher?

The launcher uses very little resources and its a great (and appropriate) place for ads and news. If I wasn't subbed (like you I'm guessing) I wouldn't mind ads in-game. But I am subbed so I do. The answer is not to "unsub". The answer is to allow subs to opt out of in-game ads. Forcing the launcher allows the ads to show outside the game.

So you're suggesting I'm forced to use the launcher and suffer endless error 201s etc. every patch so that you're not offended by ignorable ads that at worst are mildly annoying?

    Really? That's absurd.

Yes, I'm a subber and will remain so.

Of all the issues with this game, I am amazed the player community chose this one to protest and ZOS chose it to illustrate how reactive and communicative they can be when they choose to be. This issue easily ranks in the bottom 10% of my complaints with the game. I would much rather see the community rally around the major problems like PVP performance or the lack of new content. Those deserve our attention and they deserve to be the subject of frequent communication from ZOS. Instead, people are focused on trivial nonsense like these messages. There are some seriously screwed up priorities around here.

The problems are not mutually exclusive. The cross-screen ads were particularly offensive precisely because the other problems weren't fixed before implementing the ads. Also because subscribers were not able to opt out.

I'm very happy they reversed their position on these.

ZOS announcement is fine, but seriously, this was a classic First World Problem of massive proportions!

You know why the 1st world is the 1st world?

Because our forefathers stood up and made their voice heard when things weren't going the way they wanted and needed them to go.

So yes this was a 1st world problem, and we met it with a 1st world solution.

Far better than beheading people because they believe something different to me as happens in the 3rd world, don't you think?

So let's please stop this faux concern about the 3rd World, because if you were genuinely concerned you'd be out there helping instead in here moaning about 1st world problems.

This "1st world problems" is getting stale, and it doesn't impress anyone anymore - if it ever did.

If you don't run the launcher, how will you ensure you have the most up-to-date version of the game? Which you need to access the game anyways...

Well I mean I like the option to launch right into the exe from steam for steam streaming to some folks. As you said, you gotta click the launcher to check your version anyway, so everyone should see those adds, and I doubt most people launch right from the exe anyway. So forcing it would be kinda a pointless measure, and a nuisance for folks like myself. I still think there are better options.

I'm glad the message got through.

Hopefully in the future the marketing department puts user experience in front of flash sale visibility.
