Right, he just basically said it goes against everything they believe in.
He also said they won't try to monetize you while playing the game.
I guess what Matt Friror says and thinks doesn't really matter much to ZoS anymore.

They still want the sub model. Posing an alternate hypothesis is apparently a conspiracy theory:

Well, I've finally had enough.
I've been a member since November 2013, and I'm done. Not paying a sub any more. Not to a company that will flat out lie to it's player base, and make tons of empty promises that it never delivers on.
Wooooooow. A couple second notification comes up in a game that is FREE TO PLAY. Even if it is an attempt to sell their product. Wouldnt you want them to make some money so you can continue to play this game? Thats how a cash shop works. You dont have to purchase it, I didnt. Dont plan on purchasing anything actually but at least I have the common sense to realize they have to sell something.
Honestly, people will find ANYTHING to complain about. Amazed. Keep on, keepin' on internet heroes. You live amazing lives.
I am a subscriber. ZOS have given me - indeed encouraged me to take up - this option. The game is not free-to-play for me (as it happens it isn't free-to-play for anyone, it is buy-to-play for some and subcription based for others). I am seeing the message. Are you saying I and all players like me should unsubscribe?
You still choose to pay sub, if you not happy with what you get perhaps you should play without a sub for a while. Just sayin.
Err.., thank you for suggesting the option I had already flagged in the last sentence, I guess...
I had intended that implicit in my response would be the idea that there was a contradiction in ZOS's approach that I hoped could be reconciled without my dropping my sub.
Apologies if that was not more readily comprehensible.
Ah yeah it was a question towards ZoS and not towards the guy you quoted. Didnt get that.
Anyway ESO are free to play now if you choose it to be so I just dont get why people are crying so much.
If I choose to continue paying monthly for a newspaper that cost x amount once then free forever people would think I was odd.
If im raging at adds in the paper and think since I actually, out of free will, pay xtra for the free paper I deserve special treatment people would call me nuts.
Do the ads in the newspaper cover the story you are reading?
If you think ESO ingame ads "cover" the gameplay I would guess you need a new pair of glasses? You not serious are you?
Ads in newspapers are made to draw your attention - so is ingame ads.
If you think after a day of your reply being in one of the hottest threads and having absolutely no agrees makes your stance strong...
Your analogy was weak.
Since you probably missed it ealier in this thread. How would you like it if you were watching a star wars movie in the theatre and during a light sabre fight you see in bold yellow letters "Popcorn available now. Get it while it's hot and available!" flashed several time in multiple languages?
How would you like to be in a ride at disney land and halfway through they blare "This ride has been brought to you by Sam's Hardware, it's hammertime!" and play some MC hammer. (well you might like that...)

Actually that's just what I was doing. Before a great big chunk of bright yellow text appeared in the sky in Malabal Tor.

I don't see the big deal. Every other MMO I have ever played is far more intrusive with their advertisements. This game does an amazing job.
As covered several times in these pages, it's HOW it was done, rather than the fact it was done.
There are/were so many options that ZoS could have taken to increase their advertising and make it far more engrained into the game/style or less obtrusive where they still would have got their message across and an effective response.
That's the core point I was certainly making, rather than "OMG, WTF, They are advertising" which so many people seem to think I was saying.
Personally I loved the idea of a couple of Senche Mounts sitting outside the Bank in all cities that could be interacted with about the special offer. Would have been a clever concept and shown off the product and been in line with the environment (look at the baby wamasu?) that wanders around at the Undaunted camp in Stormhaven).

See, I don't have a huge issue with either of those things. When looked at individually, they're not a big deal.
The issue is the overall effect of all the changes that have come and will come with B2P. It's the cumulative effect of every small, incremental change that will result in an overall, significant degradation of the quality and spirit of the game, from the 'premium' experience initially advertised to just another cash shop MMO. The ES franchise deserves better than that.

There are myriad ways ZoS could increase advertising potential 1000% and still not be as intrusive as the "Yellow Message".
You are correct, each town could have a stable (oh wait, many do) with the different purchasable mounts in the stalls. Maybe a Stable-Master who will promote the mounts and sell them.

No no no !
As much as I dislike the "yellow text", I appreciate the way all crown-shop related stuff is clearly separated from the game world itself. "Blending it" would be far more immersion ruining than anything else. We're in Tamriel. In Nirn. There's gold and alliance points there. Not crowns or euros. NPC don't know anything about the Crown Store or our cosmetic stuff and that is very good this way.

Well Alliance Points are already immersion breaking they are an abstract meta-currency that has no physical counterpart in the game-world.
Crown Store traders could be identified like all other traders with a pennant/flag and have Crown on it, so if players want to avoid the Crown Store they can do so without interacting with the Crown Store NPC.
Simples.
All The Best
wenxue2222b16_ESO wrote: »They did this in LOTRO - at first it seems like a good idea but actually it is just another way of not being able to avoid the crown store and its contents.
The store is there and we all know it is there. It should not get in the way of the game, or into the game, at all if possible.
Ads on the launcher - yes, on the forum - yes, twitter - yes, FB - yes, e-mails sent outside the game (which they do anyway to all players often).
Ads, promotions and stores in the game world itself - crosses a line in a very big way.
