It doesn't interfere with anything! My friend has it while tanking V dsa so u can't say it affects you by not being able to see what happens on screen ...

I'm going to put it this way:

You'd be super-miffed if you were in the middle of kicking Molag Bal in his jerk face for interrupting your bantam guar teaparty by kidnapping you and having you sacrificially murdered for some ritual involving the end of the world as you know it (or you know, whatever you were doing prior to your death...) and then some big yellow text popped up between the two of you telling you to buy something from some store. I mean sure, it might distract him long enough for you to get some extra shots in, but more than likely you're going to be the one who gets distracted, and then you're Daedra-chow.

Honestly, there are many game moments that you just can't repeat and can't get back, and your first time fighting Molag Bal is one of them...sure you can level up an alt and do it over again, but it's not the same. And there are a myriad of other moments that you can't get back if it's interrupted by an ad like this. And if you're trying to get a screenshot of that epic moment? Too bad. It's now a memory of that ad.

Ultimately is it *that* important? No. But it does suck, and it ruins that epic feeling of accomplishment or elation or whatever you feel at the time of whatever just went down. And believe it or not, in the gaming world, that's very important for the players (in general, of course).

I'm okay with ads for the crown store, but I think there are much better ways of doing it than system messages, and they've all been mentioned in this thread already so I won't reiterate.

Hey guys, thanks for your feedback. We want to make sure everyone is aware that the Senche-Leopard is available - and only for a short time - so nobody misses out on the opportunity. We only plan on messaging this once per day, and want to hit each language (EN, DE, and FR) as these are multilingual megaservers.

really? Your answer is to actually advertise more? I just want to make you aware ZOS_GinaBruno that due to your pathetic response, I shall never subscribe to this game. I wall also urge everyone else not to either. Good Job !

Hey guys - you may think I'm mad, but listen - here's a thought, just a weird, crazy idea of mine: Why not make the mount available forever rather than arbitrarily limiting the supply?

    - More long-term sales by all kinds of collectors and completionists than in a week, even when factoring in the BUY NOW OR ITS GONE pressure
    - No one will miss out, even if they can't play for whatever within this week
    - No need at all for annoying system messages
    - No big threads of people complaining about any of the above

But, you know, that's just me being totally crazy and irrational.

    Hey everyone,

Just wanted to stop in and put some detail and context around the in-game announcements this weekend. Like Gina said - it's once a day on each server in 3 languages. (5 languages? We don't even speak 5 languages) Tomorrow is the last day of this and really the last day of the WBW.

In our experience, whenever we do anything that has a limited way for folks to get something cool in-game people get really upset if they miss their chance to get it. We are using several methods to make sure everyone knows, but people don't always read their emails, they pay zero attention to the patcher or login screen messages (click click click START GAME!) and we wanted to do our best to make sure people who want the leopard senche could get it.

Now, could we do this smarter? In-game email or something like that? We would love to, but currently we don't have that ability. We have heard your feedback and will be working on smarter messaging for future events but for this weekend, this is what we are going with. There aren't very many of these special events and we want to make sure people have a chance to participate. We felt it was the least disruptive being only once per day but most effective given the tools we have now.

As always, thanks for the feedback. Without you playing the game and giving feedback we wouldn't have come as far as we have in the last year. Just please, keep it constructive, keep it factual, and be understanding of the fact that it is a game full of varied people with varied interests and desires. The 3 second sever message that you might twitch at is the one message that let another player know he could get a sweet sweet senche-leopard. He's only jealous of your senche-tiger he can't get after all.

It's still tacky. As an ESO plus member (paying customer) and active crown purchaser, I shouldn't be forced to disable Server Announcements to avoid your sales pitches no matter how cool you think you are being by spreading the word to everyone about a Senche mount (that I will boycott the purchase of).

Then why do these limited events at all, though? Is it that profitable to have a few players have something unique others will never be able to get?

"You can't get this awesome thing any more" will always draw less new players to a game than "Look at this awesome thing you can get."

(Also, I didn't get a big warning when I paused my sub last year that I wouldn't be able to get all the loyalty rewards, what's your explanation for that? :p)

Hey, I'm on the other side of this. I think a once a day PSA for those who wanted the Senche is fantastic, as they do not have to constantly watch for a limited time item (which is exactly what Senche mounts are... a limited item that not everyone will have.)
ZoS could have been like many other games, spamming the message every 15 minutes. Instead they chose to limit the disruption, but still reach out to the many players who do not use the forums, have bought the game but were not subscribed the full time, and would love the chance to get this mount.

IMHO if you can't take the minor disruption to your gameplay, and consider the other people, then you need to take a chill pill. Sure, you may want this awesome screenshot from something your first time around. I get that, at least a little. It does break immersion. However, the people who were so vocal about wanting this mount are being given a special chance to get it... and whining over a very low amount of PSA style messages is not classy.

*Just my two cents. I already have the other senche, having subscribed since launch, but I think that for many other players this message is probably a nice thing.*

Do you really think that senche tiger is more important than our gaming experience? What is so special about that tiger?

You're right, this game has varied interests. And some of those interests are to enjoy the beautiful game your team has delivered. That should be your first thought when implementing "features" like this. If there's any chance it might ruin it for some people, then don't do it.

Likewise, it sounds like your team wasn't ready to start delivering ad content smartly. Again, it should have waited. I'm sure some business was lost because of this and now you'll need to win those people back.

Thank you for the response and I'm glad that different methods will be tried in the future.

    Ya..that's basically a Marketing 101 problem.

But that doesn't mean you'd be happy if some company stuck a huge Billboard on your front lawn because they thought you might not notice their billboard on the highway because of all the other billboards....

Ruining game immersion by advertising a mount using the System Message system is just backwards thinking. You are effectively driving subscription away by making the game less fun for people.

Hence, the highly negative reaction. People feel it "cheapens the experience". And when you cheapen the experience, people will move on to another game.

Try not to be so naive in the future. Your marketing department really should know better.

The really hard to believe part is that after the National Pet Day message was so poorly received, they were dumb enough to do it again.

Sadly, the in-game mail is also likely to be ignored/not read, so your short, MOSTLY un-obtrusive announcements are probl the best way to handle it.

So if ZOS decided that every 30 mins a digitised picture of Kate Upton was going to pop up on your screen, cleavage prominently displayed. begging you to visit the store you'd be ok with that? What about every 15 minutes? 5 minutes? I mean, if ZOS wanted to do that you'd be ok with that, right?

I play on the NA server. Last night I saw the ad around 8pm.

This morning I saw it around 11am (you can look at the tiny print across the top of the screen)

    Cgay1w6.png

To me, that's more than "once a day" since it's not been 24 hours. But perhaps this will be the last one for today on the NA server.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
