Things like this always happen, like when I buy something such as a $2000 dollar simmons beauty rest bed and then a month later it's 50% off with bonus free luxury $200 sheet set. Those who buy quick often are burned.

Loyalty doesn't seem rewarded these days face it those who have been long term with their bank get charged certain bank fees unless they speak up and new accounts don't.

I swear, this is the tenth time I've seen this incorrect analogy.

You can still go buy that $200 sheet if you wanted to. We can't get the dog no matter what.

You guys all realize that Steam users can't get the Explorer's Pack, right?

Not sure if they disabled them, but there are still plenty of explorer pack keys on sale online. (just did a quick search and found a few). They cost like $2 or so.

I also do not think it is the exclusivity of the pet a much as what it is. A lot of people had been asking for a dog pet since prior to launch and now they release one that is not available to those who wanted one and have been loyal since the get go. That seems to be more of the issue.

ZOS could have come out a winner if they had just said:

"Announcing today, we are offering the game for sale through Steam. In celebration of this, we have a new Wolfhound Vanity Pet available. Check your Inbox"

How much cool would that have been? Incentives don't have to be exclusives.

How cool would it have been if players had the maturity to say, "Oh look, they're giving new players an incentive to join. Nice. Now we'll have more people to play with. I am sad I won't have this pet, but I'm happy to have more potential friends online."

I said the same thing earlier, but the 'me,me,me' single-player focus of many in the community is getting way out of hand. Sickeningly so.

Still at least the "No"s have the upper hand in the 'Does the vanity pet really bug you?" poll. Take that complainers.

Quite. That's what a company with its head screwed on right would do.

For a cost of zero you generate a lot of good will. It should be a no-brainer.

No, we can get the dog. The problem is, we'd have to buy the game again, make a whole new account, and start completely from scratch.

To correct your analogy, @Auralia, let's say you bought that $2000 mattress, and a month later, it's 50% off with a free luxury sheet set that you can't get anywhere else, and you can only use it with the 50% off mattress, not the original $2000 one.

So your only option, if you want the sheet set, is to buy the mattress again.

Wait what! For pre ordering the expensive edition I get a crab, weird lookin mini dinosaur and an annoying monkey. NOW they offer an actual realistic and awesome looking pet?

I'm with those above, there should seriously be a way for us to get it also.

Don't forget, Imperials, you didn't just get a crab (which is kind of lame) you got a horse from the moment you opened your eyes and sold one thing to get the one piece of gold it cost. It may not have been a great horse but considering the number of white horses that have run over me and through me it is more useful than any of the pets. I had to cancel my Imperial pre-order because of the console delay so I have a monkey and a scutler but no horse.

Yes, but within a short time, you'll have a new pet to play with. And you'll forget about the imaginary insult.

I'm not one of the ones calling it a "slap in the face," but I'd be willing to forgive and forget if they gave us a stand-alone buyable option.

Are there legit, over-the-top, overblown reactions? Sure. But many of us are just asking for what we feel is a reasonable solution for what we consider a grievance.

Friends for what? They just turned this into a singleplayer game with the vet content update...or as some of you refer to as "vet content fix".

When you purchase your Simmons beauty rest bed, you're not subscribing to future content, maintaining your status as an ongoing, existing customer. You're making a one-time purchase. If you really wanted that $200 sheet, you just waltz right in the door & buy it. This is not the case with the elusive Whiterun Wolfhound.

Most people who get the mangy mut will probably delete it when they run out of bank space. I've deleted every pet I have ever been given. Bank space is useful. Pets arent

I think I can find space out of my 350+ inventory slots to spare for 1 more pet. I can't believe we're still talking inventory right now when most players have backpacks, horses & banks maxed out.

I'm guessing most of us have not left this thread. I know I haven't. Thanks for pointing that out though. Just to clarify though...you're saying that pissing off 47% of the customer base is a positive thing because it's less than half? Really? This isn't a majority-wins situation. If you're pissing off close to half your customers, that is a major issue that deserves to be addressed.

The poll in question is regarding the vanity pet alone - its OP specifically states they are asking about the wolfhound itself, not what it represents, to what it may lead, et cetera. As dozens of people have said in this thread and others, it's not the dog itself that's the issue (how sad would it be, yes, if there was this much uproar about a virtual dog). The issue is the seemingly growing disregard by Zenimax for its current player base.

We have gotten constant updates and fixes in response to player concerns. They're even changing the entire VR system due to the whining from players. And you still think they have a disregard for the playerbase?

This is a perfect example of the entitlement the OP is talking about. You don't deserve anything for playing this game. You're playing the game because you have fun playing it. If that isn't the case, please quit. But ZO isn't required to give you validation or rewards because you like their product.

I need some positive karma, so I'd enjoy being able to buy it through steam, treasure my doge code and give away the digi copy if that's the case, Zeni ples?

    Does anyone know?

I re-purchased the imperial edition from steam. I made a ticket yesterday, and they replied that they would look into it after giving them the steam key. So now i'm waiting again for a "hopefully" positive reply, that they at least can add the Wolfhound vanity pet to my account... Otherwise I just wasted (47.99 euros) for just to have teso on my steam account. :\

I disagree with the people who say we deserve the pet for having bought the original Imperial Edition.

I disagree that it's a customer loyalty issue.

But I'm not going to let go of the idea that it should be buyable by existing customers with real money or in-game gold(without buying a whole new account).

Here's my axe and it'sa grindin'.

Dam guys way to keep this rolling while the night shift slept 17+ pages now lol. For those just joining the madness there are only a few smart decisions ZOS can make. This is a P2P not F2P this means they need to keep their customer base happy more then getting new customers is a delicate balance there but generally current customers that you know are still subbing > new customers that may quit shortly after. I would say ZOS will either:

    1. give the pet to all flagged imperials for free as well as new ones basically just adding it to the content with crab.

    2. Put the same dog/reskin of it into the cash shop for a somewhat ridiculous price probably 15-20$.

    3. (This is what I would like to see and to be honest the smartest move they could make but it would be more work for their team) Make it available in game, add in a pet shop it isn't even that difficult. Other games have done it runescape did along with pets from skill lines and quests and it worked very well. This would be the best answer because it lays the foundation of this for the future. Allowing them to introduce new pets like cats etc. It doesn't even have to be fancy where you watch it grow just let them be bought in a little shop with some gold. Would be very similar to the stable master right now.

Whats your official title at Z-max office again? I must remember to send some flowers and a package of biscuits to you and the rest of the staff. You and your squad is doing a real good job defending every wrong turn this game has taken so far.

Aw, cute. A "He's a ZO shill!" argument. It would also be hilarious if it wasn't such a tired-out trope. But it's still adorable.

But it's okay for you and others to make the "entitlement" argument that is beyond tired and more often than not comes across as ageism? FFS.

Believing that you deserve a reward for nothing is the definition of entitlement. Please feel free to correct me if the Oxford dictionary folks got together and changed that.

It is about what has become common practice....ZOS is new to mmos and seem to have not done their homework. Why don't you look at the number of pages of posts filled primarily with players that are genuinely upset and feel betrayed by this company. They have made a mistake that should be obvious. Calling people entitled or whiners is just bullying because you don't have the nerve to stand up for something so as I have mentioned a few times now get off the forums, go do research see what makes other mmos good see why players enjoy their games then come back....then and only then can you offer constructive input rather then name calling.

Hey, everyone. We’ve received many questions about how non-Steam customers can get the in-game ESO Whiterun Wolfhound pet that is currently an exclusive part of the Steam offer. While the grey wolfhound will remain an exclusive through Steam, we will be offering a brown version of the Wolfhound pet (tentatively called the Riften Woflhound) at some point in the future. Stay tuned for more details on how you'll be able to get your hands on one.

I feel regret that your company felt bullied enough by your customers to come up with this type of response. If I knew any of you in person, I would take you all out for drinks (it's payday, what the Hell) and thank you for providing a game that I have so thoroughly enjoyed without any of this vanity pet nonsense.

Thank you for posting something to alert all these upset players that the grey wolfhound was not the last pet that was ever going to be introduced into this game (especially of the same variety). Though now players will get the impression that their whining is what brought it and responsive in nature as we all are, will whine louder next time when there is something they want.

This reiterates a point I made earlier though that this was in fact a BRILLIANT move by the marketing reps for ZOS. Think of how much extra revenue they are going to make now by people buying the Riften wolfhound...and people think this company doesn't know what they are doing. Tactical mastery I say :)

EDIT: two weeks until people start calling this game Elder Wolfhounds Online...players love their game title mad-libs!
