Any Way for Existing Customers to get the Whiterun Wolfhound?

Hey, everyone. We’ve received many questions about how non-Steam customers can get the in-game ESO Whiterun Wolfhound pet that is currently an exclusive part of the Steam offer. While the grey wolfhound will remain an exclusive through Steam, we will be offering a brown version of the Wolfhound pet (tentatively called the Riften Woflhound) at some point in the future. Stay tuned for more details on how you'll be able to get your hands on one.

Thank you for posting something to alert all these upset players that the grey wolfhound was not the last pet that was ever going to be introduced into this game (especially of the same variety). Though now players will get the impression that their whining is what brought it and responsive in nature as we all are, will whine louder next time when there is something they want.

This reiterates a point I made earlier though that this was in fact a BRILLIANT move by the marketing reps for ZOS. Think of how much extra revenue they are going to make now by people buying the Riften wolfhound...and people think this company doesn't know what they are doing. Tactical mastery I say :)

Yes, let's just see how long this brilliant marketing lasts them.

I think you're confusing the two.

See, a mature person doesn't get upset when they discover that other people may have a small item that they don't. A complacent person doesn't get upset when there is an actual injustice in the world.

    Let me use some examples:

Maturity- Not getting upset over a virtual dog that you'll forget about in a week. Getting upset because a passenger plane was just shot down, killing almost 300 people.
Immaturity- Taking a company's offer to new players as a personal insult.

Could you also explain how a smug person acts? :)

By writing one-liner ad hominem attacks that don't even begin to address the issue?

Oh damn, now I've fallen in to the same trap...

Nothing new for you there then !

Well, I bought the Palomino horse because I don't like the one that came with the Imperial Edition.

I suppose a brown replacement horse and a brown replacement dog are fitting partners.

A dog is a dog and despite the fact that some people wanted it for free for their loyalty, I don't mind it becoming available during the future on your online store.
Now lets talk business, what about the piglet? Will there be a different version of him as well? =p

He might not have anything against them, maybe he just prefers grey over brown or maybe he prefers whiterun over riften.

How about making Riften Wolfhound black? Brown seems... ordinary and only like a bone thrown to get silence forum. Will Steambuyers be able to get hold of the riften version? That was clearly a severe marketing mistake. The scuttler pet would have done nicely for steam users too.

    Thanks for responding, Gina.

I do hope you and your colleagues realize the complaints here are about more than just the dog. A lot of loyal customers who have stuck with you guys through the growing pains are feeling unappreciated, and I think a little more proactive communication would go a long way.

Dogs in general are awesome beings , so i have nothing against any of them.

But the reason i was annoyed since the start , is that they are giving exclusive content for new players that we , current players , will never be able to get.

The issue continue , they just gave us a different one to shup us up about it , that simple.

Wonder how many times this will keep happening.

The forums won't be silent on this until we see how they are going to implement it. If they decide to try and charge existing players for it, that's still a slap in the face. Maybe an achieve reward or something ?

Their Steam account is forcefully tied to an ESO account so they have access to the Digital Store just like normal users. But if they have the grey one why would they buy the brown one?

People who didnt get the grey one because they bought standard or didn't buy Imperial on time will probably want a dog as well. In that sense it isn't a marketing mistake when you clearly want as much cash flowing as possible.

It is fitting and I'm happy...slightly, it does indeed seem like this was the plan all along. I am curious to see how much they put it in the cash shop for. anywhere around 5$ would probably be reasonable price. If they try to place it for much higher then that though, 15$ like the palamino, then I would say we have our answer on the type of company this is, if we don't already know in the first place. I will hold out hope that it is either not a cash shop item or is put at a fair price but I think I already know how this will go. To reiterate to everyone who doesn't understand why people are upset over a dog, there are different arguments:
Some just want the dog cuz they asked for it, perfectly reasonable and those players will be happy.
Some of us are looking at the decisions that have been made the past few months along with this one, figuring out what the future goal is. Currently they seem to care more about a F2P style of getting lots of new customers while ignoring the Loyal current ones. This may change and I would much rather have A LOT more communication with the devs and mods then what we are having right now but I am not expecting much.

My current issue is with the fact that every promotional item thus far is obtainable to new steam accounts with a little searching, while current players are shafted out of a full experience.

I think he meant from the beginning this was a marketing mistake. Mostly it "appears" and I am being careful here that ZOS wanted to rake in the cash and play its current loyal members for fools, enough saw through the whole thing to get upset and here we are. They need to take care of current loyal customers first THEN get new customers, they shouldn't be hurting that badly for cash right now but that part I do not know.

It is annoying and if this is how zen intends to going , the current customers will only get worse and worse treatment.

The fact is , we are locked outside content that is only for new players. This time it is a dog , god knows what it will be next time.

OK. The grey one will be distinctive. I'll have to see about how I feel about people with it.

I'll buy the brown, come on pick a better colour, one but I may discriminate against those with the grey one. Wolfhounds are grey mostly. I'll see if I will actively make life hard for the owners of them. I have not decided. I will not spam the Steam forums as I had planned though.

I am a long time Steam user with 70+ games there and I would have used them if I had a choice way back when. To roll this out on Steam with the nice pet was a bit much with so many of us not offered that choice.

It is and I'm happy for everyone that just wanted a dog, the rest of us either will leave or are going to stay and try and get ZOS to see that these sort of tactics can't be used on loyal players. Don't forget too we still need to find out HOW we get the dog and possibly how much it will cost us.

Well it's sure as heck making the decision easier, that's a fact. All this over a self-inflicted problem makes me honestly sad. I want to love this game - from the oldschool thought put into it to the PvP focus of guilds, but decisions such as this really turn me off as an aware customer.

I feel regret that your company felt bullied enough by your customers to come up with this type of response. If I knew any of you in person, I would take you all out for drinks (it's payday, what the Hell) and thank you for providing a game that I have so thoroughly enjoyed without any of this vanity pet nonsense.
