This problem is directly correlated to light sources such as torches or candles. I've noticed I only see this problem when in the presence of one or more light sources which tells the light source ambiance is conflicting causing the error to occur.

This is a very interesting observation. Is anyone else able to confirm?

These light sources are almost everywhere. Can you post some more information on how you found this connection?

I had 2 errors today. Both in the Alik'r Desert. No lights anywhere. So I don't think that is the problem.

Here's an ingame map of where I was when I got the last error.

I could juts as easily point to the fact that there are always NPC's around or interactible objects around or even trees/bushes/environmental art around but it is just impossible to pinpoint without additional tools.

Would be great if that debug window actually specified which piece of data it was critically failing to load....

I've been encountering this error since the last patch. I'm completely unable to play as the game produces this error every 10-20 seconds and thus makes it totally impossible to do anything short of run around town, sorta.

I have had a ticket going with ZOS support for the past 3-4 days with no solution, and they seem unwilling to agree this is on their end. The past day has been them trying to come up with issues that could only be on my end even though we've established my system meets and exceeds specs, and runs other more intensive games at higher visual settings. We've established it is not my system sooooo....

To shed more light on this. I encounter the error in every conceivable situation. Even if I stand in the same place and don't do anything and look at a wall. Seems to be something running in the background. Happens with mods, without, with them and turned off. It makes no difference. I've tried every video/audio setting with no luck. I've even tried re-installing fresh.

One way I was able to re-create the error every time was to scroll through the character creator hair options as quickly as I could click the arrow. Maybe try that and see if it works (breaks it) for everyone?

I'm pretty frustrated and trying to figure out if there's a way to get my money back for the month I've been unable to play at all. Doesn't look like it either.

Hey there, everyone. Is there a particular action or path that you're taking when you see the error appear?

While we've been actively investigating the "data load failure" error, we'd like to get some additional information from you to help identify the cause. If you're experiencing this error, please submit a help ticket to our Support Team, and attach a Game Consultant file directly to your ticket. Once you do, be sure to send a private message with your ticket number to @ZOS_JasonLeavey so we can investigate further -- if you've already submitted this information to our team, you can just PM your existing ticket number. We'll be sure to provide an update as soon as possible. Thanks!

Well, just got this error again. What was I doing?... Just walking around near the Apprentice Stone north of Evermore. Every time I get this error I'm just walking/running around the world not in a dungeon or anything and not interacting with anything. Although I have had this when running down the stairs from the Wayshine to the blacksmith in Shornhelm. I can pass the same area several times and nothing happens. Then one day out of the blue BAM! There just doesn't seem to be any pattern to this. It just happens without warning.

  • antmck2011rwb17_ESO
I am starting to get a "little" sick of this. 4 times today "Data Load Failure" It's getting to the point where ESO is unplayable. Every time I hit "ignore" and fill in a report. Every time the reply with "At this time, our team is currently investigating a fix for this issue. We appreciate your patience as we work on getting this resolved!".

I was just filling in the stupid report and what happened.. Something suddenly showed up and attacked me! Now I either continue filled in the report or cancel it - defend myself - then start the report all over again. Well to hell with that. I finished the report and send it - died. This is fun!

Also, How do you send a message to @ZOS_JasonLeavey ingame? I've tried the name isn't recognised.

Should I be reporting every single one? Or just "try" to ignore it until it's fixed as it's a known issue?

Hey there, @antmck2011rwb17_ESO. Our team is still actively investigating the error, but because it seems to occur for different reasons, it's been harder to identify the cause. If you've already submitted a Game Consultant file to our Support Team, you can just PM your ticket number to @ZOS_JasonLeavey on the forums, not in-game so we can continue looking into it. You won't need to send one each time.

Additionally, if there was a specific action you were doing or noticed something that seemingly caused it to happened for you, feel free to share those details here. Thanks!

    Here is one idea.
Why is the game setup to keep creating an addons folder in my documents rather than in the game folder?

Perhaps the engineers should fix this and then address why this creates an addons folder. If I wanted to have or use addons, the launcher should have a button or feature to import those files by clicking n choosing.

Extracting stuff is a good way to mess things up.

I found this out because ppl suggested it was my addons (the funny thing is, I've never even tried to download any)

Completely frustrated and pretty much DONE with this paid BETA. Seems bad to charge ppl for unfinished products unless you tell them.

The weekly updates for bugs are a put off as the "bugs" are deal breakers and many prevent you from even playing the game.

It makes ppl want to ask for their gametime back.

Or at least offer and extra 30 days whenever the console version releases as it's apparent that the PC version will never be stable.

@NewBlacksmurf‌: I think the reason why the My Doc folder is used is because this is user dependent - ie if someone else logs in on your computer with their username and password they will see their My Doc folder which would contain all their stuff. Putting everything into the games folder would mean there can be only one Add-on folder for every user. Just a guess. Of course if like me you're the only one who uses your computer then it makes no difference.

Reloading UI doesn't fix the boxes, but at least it's not a game-crash.
I got killed 3 times in a row for a "Data load failure". I think I'm gonna download Skyrim and come back when there's some fix for this

I used to get it a lot, when I had an add-on. Deleted the Add on and still get it but not as much. Repaired my game but it didn't change anything, just went through the ESO Files and deleted the Add-on setting in there, hope this fixes it.

I did this and all seemed well for over an hour. Then...I saw a red box. Less than 5 minutes after I got the error. I stopped just because I assumed it was an issue with loading textures.

If standing still didn't work I'm at a loss.

This is why I don't think it's on my end. That's an add happening when all was fine before the last big patch other than a apace not loading and then yanking me.

That is no longer an issue as much. It's still sometimes occurs but the data error is an issue.

What's crazy is go back and the addons folders and files you deleted will be back.
Please explain why TESO is creating folders.

What's really going on in the background? Why is the client loading and creating new files outside of my game folder and where else are files being created.

    For what purposes?

The most recent update to 1.3 did not resolve the Data Load Error. I was only able to play for 20 min on my laptop before it started.

Symptoms are the as they ever were. Once it starts, it gets more and more frequent. Plus it still results in a massive and ever increasing memory leak. I no longer have any add-ons since the update made them all out of date. Clearly ESO has created a portal to Oblivion on my laptop.

At this point I am only logging in out of morbid curiosity to see how long I can play before the bug appears. Once it started, I quit.

This bug will eventually kill the customer base and ruin the reputation of both the Elder Scrolls brand as well as the coporate income. I just would feel remiss if I didn't continue to report it.

At this point, I am resolved to cancel my subscription when it runs out unless the bug is resolved.
