I got it once myself. I always smile at the...what were you doing when the game crashed question.

Well...uhhhmm....see...I'm just sitting here, playing ESO, having a rye and coke. Doing the whole talk to this dude, run over there and talk to that dude then run back, then pick a fight thing. Then....Lawedy Jesus....errr..Stendarr....I heard this noise and the screen went blank. My heart sunk into my stomach and tears began to well up. I took a swig of my drink and blinked hoping it was just a heart attack and the game didn't crash and I could crawl to medicine cabinet, take some asprin and get back to the game hoping I didn't lose any progress...but nope. So now this dialog box comes up asking me what I'm doing, and I'm all nervous thinkin' it's CIA trying to trick me.

But ya..more crashes since the patch. No since big memory leak thing a couple patches ago, but as long as I reboot my computer when I noticed the game not acting right...I'm golden.

This is not something one can report with details, thus sending in a bug report is useless. One just has to read the forums to see that some were walking across a field, some were in the bank, some were going through a door, some were crafting, some riding a horse. It has nothing to do with what you were doing or where you were, this is akin to a global issue. Since the patch, which has improved lighting it would make sense that this is the most likely problem.

The data report window has a crash report window if you click on the options.

Your post reads something like this:

"I have no idea what the problem is so bug reports are useless"

So am I right in thinking you believe the best procedure going forward is if we just come to the forums and drop a post like " yah I have this too, ZoS fix yer game!!!" instead of filling out a detailed bug report of where you were, what you were doing whether or not you can easily reproduce, system specs etc...? Interesting.

I will continue to think that as many people as possible filling out the report is the best option to fix the problem asap.

Just hit the ignore button - hopefully the switch to desktop doesn't cause a crash in your client (it can sometimes, so unlucky if it does). I'm getting them when there is a failure to load some asset, normally a texture (ignore and tab back into game will usually show the red 'missing' texture).

I've gotten it a few times over the past few days. I only run one addon right now since the others don't work since the patch. I just click ignore and it keeps working but last night it happened 4 times within an hour. Hope the maintenance today fixes it. More annoying than anything except when your killing a mob and the game goes down. You come back to a dead toon!

I'm getting them and I don't have any add-ons. I submit a bug report with no great expectations, so many things broke in 1.2.3.

Just restarted and the same character crashed before I could do anything.

Happening to me too. Usually around once an hour or so. Once it happened right after I mounted. After getting back into the game I still "was mounted" but there was no horse. It just looked like I was running around super fast.

This has happened to me several times as well. I was also lucky enough to have all my chars unresponsive to movement commands. After some frustration i deleted the user settings.txt file and restarted and it seemed to work for me after that. I'm sure it will crash again though.

I keep getting an error which crashes my game. When the game crashes i get a box titled Critical Error (artdata) and inside it says Data load failure.
i dont have any addons running and i have ran a repair on the game

The same thing is suddenly happening to me as of 7/1/2014. I get this same Data Load Failure (artdata) message, twice in the last hour of play. Please fix this.

    Greetings folks

At this time, our team is currently investigating a fix for this issue. We appreciate your patience as we work on getting this resolved!

In the meantime, we suggest disabling any of your add-ons, as these can cause errors when they are out of date. We also suggest that you try repairing your launcher to ensure that your game is up to date. Last but not least, if possible, please try x-ing out of the error message and then typing /reloadui in your chat box.

    Thank you!

Thanks for letting us know. I myself only use one addon, and I only started using it the other day. The problem started occurring before I got the addon.

Oh come one, how is this still in post-patch? It really doesn't matter if they can find the problem or not, there is one simple fix that will take 1 minute of their time - comment the bloody code out that does this for the release build (it shouldn't even be there). That's all that matters to the player, that this doesn't trigger - in the meanwhile, someone can track the real problem while the players longer even know it exists.

I'm assuming that was a copy and paste response.

I can log in long enough to feed my horses and continue to research armor traits but that is about it. I've timed it each time I log in and I usually get this error about 2-3 minutes after logging in. Hopefully it is fixed soon. Until then I'll play Archeage.

I don't think you are understanding the issue exactly. The error message is occuring outside the game in a separate window that minimizes the game.

This is not the standard addon error message window that pops up in game and gives you the offending lua code. It is different.

The window that is popping up is a Debug window.
The Debug window minimizes the client, and to some, may even look like a crash to the desktop.

Hey, all. Is anyone still encountering this error pop-up AFTER patching ESO to 1.2.4? Let us know by replying here. Thank you!

I just received this error for the first time (post patch) about 3 minutes ago.
Here is a screen shot of the Debug window I had mentioned.
    peir1qunpern.jpg
When it pops up, the client does not immediately crash, it minimizes.
Clicking on "Ignore Once" allows you to continue to play for a while, but the issue usually comes back after a short time.
If you just let the client sit like this for a while (minimized with the debug window up), when you return, you will have lagged out, but the client doesn't kick back to the login screen. You also cannot logout. The client has to be terminated with the task manager.

Note: I played for several hours, swapping to multiple toons, before this reared it's ugly head again.
When it did come up, I was near quite a few other players (Daggerfall bank, packed to the gills, so to speak).

P.S. Yep, that is my ESO wallpaper in the background. :)

Yes, this is happening more frequently since the last patch (every 5 minutes). Occurred 3 times during a 30 second fight. Tried the repair, no change. Logging out/back in doesn't decrease the frequency.

Tell me about it. Same thing happens to me but mostly it just freezes on loading. I have to restart or at least relog on my laptop. Even taskmanager can't help me at that point. This only started happening about 3 weeks or so ago. Also, like you I have no add-ons installed and my graphics are set to low, but it does the same on high or low graphic settings leading me to believe that graphics isn't the issue.
I don't comment here often but when I do, I get [snip]

Yes, I'm still having this issue. Had it happen multiple times today, all the same artdata data load failure. My client freezes until I choose an option from the dialog box. I usually select "ignore once" and the dialog box goes away without me having to restart the client.

I have this, and more, but I suspect the root cause is the same.

    - "Data load failure" popup often (this popup is from a third party tool I believe?)
    - Frequent hang after login screen, but before character select screen. Using processmonitor I can see that eso.exe is communicating with server and reading from eso0028.dat, but nothing much happening.
    - Missing textures in game, one minute the weapons are visible, then I swap, and they are gone. Same goes for horses etc. Also plenty of "missing" boxes.

I didnt have this problem very badly until a few hours ago, very odd, possibly due to higher server load, or maybe it's a missing packets issue. Will inviestigate further but sending this in case it helps anyone to understand.

I dont know if it is significant at all, but using processmonitor I see a lot of BUFFER_OVERFLOW on I/O operations, but I dont know if maybe this is just normal.

It just happened again and this time I have rerun the repair. Restarted my computer and logged in. I'm standing in a home with one other NPC in the Edrald Estate. Maybe just 1-2 minutes after logging in and guess what. Bad Load Error.

    No add-ons
    No java
Running on.low settings just in case

    Win 8.1 ASUS G72gx PC.

This is past frustrating and the emails from support are as if no one has ever worked on a game or used a pc.

This problem is directly correlated to light sources such as torches or candles. I've noticed I only see this problem when in the presence of one or more light sources which tells the light source ambiance is conflicting causing the error to occur.
