Which only makes the lack of communication all the more infuriating.

Did you at least read any of the complaints? Did you read about the shift in development focus? Do you even have any experience with Free-To-Play transition in MMOs?

What am I missing here? How does this apply to ESO? ESO is buy to play, not free to play. Sorry I don't get what you are trying say.

    No need to apologize :)
ESO is Buy-To-Play right now, but ZOS has a person working for them that is specialized in Free-To-Play transition in MMOs. Adding RNG Boxes is one of the strategies for this kind of transition. It happened in many other MMOs (MMOs where the same person was working, doing the same thing). I hope ZOS will show me they can be different, but you know how it goes... History repeats itself.

New marketing director. Hired around dark brotherhood dlc I believe.

Edit. The exclusives in the crates are very horribly thought out. They shouldn't have had any items known to be coming before the crates were announced for starters. People were looking forward to some of these items.

Why can't they just set a price for the items like any decent product manufacturers would. I could never get away with this. The products I make are determined by bidding. I would lose the contract if the price or quality wasn't right. The MMO market is just off in my opinion.

I am like a zombie roaming through the game doing dailies and picking up drops from nodes over and over again just trying to figure out why I am still playing this game. So, any new contents and updates are always welcomed with me, in hopes I don't abruptly flipped one somber day and just throw this game right out the window.

I periodically take long breaks to go off and play other games. Then I come back to ESO and play some more. I've been playing since launch, but I'm still only CP 180 and have tons of content still left to explore. Keeps me from getting burned out.

I'm not happy with the new psijic ambrosia recipe. The community had already said that there was something off about 'adding a new item to the game' just to make sure that nothing introduced in the crown crates is better than what can be crafted in the game.

I thought that they were going to rework the crown crates and communicate it with us before they rolled it out. The decision to roll out the new psjic recipe just seems like an underhand way of doing what they want.

I think they said they would be doing tweaking and in-house testing, and might not get the tweaked version of the crates out to the pts before they go live. Gina said we would find out what they did before they go live. They never said they would make changes we asked for to the rngesus boxes.

There might be other recipe changes too. Someone compared the crown crate potions.

They will get the players who don't care, who might not be paying with their own money [like parent's credit cards], and the ones who have issues with impulse control or gambling issues.

Who they will lose might be a large number of the ES [not ESO] players who would buy items outright, but won't gamble for them. If they would offer the boxes as an alternative to get items at a lower price, or several weeks before you can buy it outright, I'd have no problems with the rngesus boxes. That black mane lion or other senche mount would be available eventually at whatever price, and I could decide to buy it or not. The crown exclusive items? Not going there. Ever. If they did the alternative route where people could buy everything outright at some point, I might be willing to buy a crate with my sub crowns. But not with the exclusives.

No one ignored it. We just wanna know why some 'genius' thought it was a good idea to take the servers down on a weekend and for what it was about.

They didn't need to take the servers down at all if ZOS knew what a hotfix actually is.

Free to Play and Buy to Play work in a similar enough fashion that often times people use them interchangeably. And some here believe these Crown Crates will push ESO into F2P territory. Personally I dont think itll need to drop the B2P business model to go forward with the Crown Crates because of how similar the two models are.

Both models require the majority if not all of the game to be free to access. B2P only requires you buy the Base Game/DLCs upfront or "rent" them. But otherwise you can play the content without ever having to drop another red cent.

Both models rely heavily on profits from a microtransaction store. While both models may have a subscription model neither necessarily require it to be successful. ESO is actually one of the few F2P/B2P games where the sub is completely optional but still adds to the experience. Games like Star Trek Online which is F2P has a subscription but generally its considered worthless as youre not getting much of anything back. And SWTOR has a subscription that youre beat over the head with until you buy it. But both of those games dont actually need a sub as they are wildly successful with their microtransactions.

I dont have much experience with B2P games but in F2P they often place game-changing items into their MT Stores to drive up sales. In STO they add very powerful devices (that happen to be attached to Ships) into the Store or into their Lockboxes (their equivilant of Crown Crates). These devices can become rather powerful and change the landscape of the meta for the game.

As for what Abeille was trying to say about development focus. What makes more money, gets more development time. Prior to the Argonian Dungeon Pack. The development cycle was based on building new zones that would introduce new mounts, outfits, pets and motifs to the Crown Store. But with the introduction of Crown Crates and the 4-6 Mounts per at the Apex Level as well as the Outfits and pets that will inevitably be placed in the Crates over the Store. You can expect the development of Zones like Vvardenfell, Clockwork City, and Murkmire to stagnate or slow down to a crawl while they make money hand over fist with the crates. As the crates can introduce everything the zones could in a smaller timetable and profit immensely from the limited availability of the items.
