Conversely, imagine how many are silently cursing VR but don't see the point of complaining on the forum about it.
ZOS themselves are the only ones who have any sort of reliable metrics on this, probably based on how many characters / accounts get abandoned before reaching the level cap.
If I were to imagine this based off of my experience in game, I would have to say next to none. I know that's not true, I am sure there are many, but not near as many as the one who would want them to stay. I play with many different people every week and I have not heard anyone complain about VR in months.

"We noticed that some players were dropping off at Veteran Rank 1, because it took a really long time to get to Veteran Rank 2 and they had to go all the way to 16. So sort of our first step of improving that - with a previous update - was, we made it take less experience to get a Veteran Rank and we also made it so that when you're doing veteran quests you get more quests (he probably meant: Experience)"

Do the people in charge of this decision realize that the majority of players don't want them removed now?
That's not true...perhaps the remaining active players on the forums only may hold your opinion but I'd say it's more like 50-50 until 11/2, 11/17-11/18 then I'd say more will want VR's gone as they will jump to 100+ CP's and some to 400+
You would say huh? That must make it true. Well, I base my opinion off of the people commenting in this and other threads and polls like this
http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/223036/removal-of-vr/p1
But most of all my opinion comes from the people that I play with in game, which is where I spend most of my time talking about it.
It is a waste of time to try to remove them now.
We are missing a lot of others amongst the active player base.
Exactly, I 100% agree with you. Especially since the forums are a place where most people only visit to complain about something they don't like. I can only imagine how many active players are happily playing the game as is and would be upset by the removal of VR.

@ZOS_GinaBruno Implementation of what? Is it possible to have an estimate of when because I've been waiting for this to happen since you guys released them...
Thanks
The removal of Veteran Ranks requires a lot more work than just, well, removing them. There's impact to itemization, quests, and dungeons to name a few. Again, we'll talk more about all this later next year.

O you mean that update a couple of months ago that I haven't heard anyone complain about VR removal since? The only complaint I ever hear is people wanting more new content. As I said before, them trying to remove VR is taking resources away from that. A lot of people like the way VR and CP work together. Just make the ranks even easier to obtain and everyone is happy and we can move forward.

Fact of the matter is that some players quit the game at Veteran Rank 1, because of the system. Neither of us have definitive data on the whole player base. Only ZOS has solid enough data on that. All I know is that all my friends - who I started the game with - quit because the quest grind wasn't worth getting to end-game. So according to my statistic: Including me, that's 11 out 12 who quit between VR1 and 8. If you count me not playing for a year as "quitting", that makes a perfect 12 out of 12. Now, I should mention that the majority of us were veterans in the MMO scene, so we're used to leveling, whether we enjoy it or not. I doubt it's this bad across the game's communities, but that's a scary individual statistic for a game company.
The reason why you haven't heard anyone complain could just as well mean that most who complained, already quit. Now, having "some" percentage of all new players quit because of something like hundreds of quests (or alternatively mob grinding) being mandatory instead of optional isn't very good for the longevity of the game.
By removing Veteran Ranks, they effectively reduce the mandatory questing by approximately 66% (1 alliance instead of 3), discounting main story and guild quests of course. If this change will bring "some" of the old players back and prevent "some" of new players from quitting so early, I'd say it's a win for all of us as it gives this game more income and thus more resources to build more of our beloved content.
Now, have a good day, sir.

This still does not make sense to me. Thats like saying remove level 40-50 because then instead of getting cp at 50 we get it at 40. Why not remove leveling altogether then? There must be something more that i don't understand or know about.
I still want someone to actually explain to me why they should be removed.

So you levelled one character up to VR16, and it was a process you didn't enjoy?
Which kind of means you don't enjoy the game...
You don't have to do Cadwell's, you can PvP or PvE. You can go to Craglorn (I first went there at VR1, had to be careful, but there you go...). You can group up. You can just grind if you don't like questing.
In any case, if you didn't enjoy getting to VR16 how are you finding the never-ending grind for CP?

This is a really good perspective.
I think all the posts about player and guild drop off stem to lots of new players who've come and many who are long gone. I've seen more than 50 ppl say their entire guild was over 50-100 and now is less than 10 online meaning they didn't leave the guild...they left the game. I stopped at Vr2 on PC and waited until console. Rolled Alts to Vr1 and have just one VR16....which wasn't fun but I chose to play it all so my feedback is representative of almost all content.
The forums alone indicate that ppl aren't sticking around in masses based on the amount of new threads asking old questions....like this thread.
Again well commented
This is the only MMO I have ever played where the whiners demand that everything be set back so that everyone (i.e., them -- who started playing a week earlier, and probably without a subscription) can be "fair and equal," and the idiot developers actually listen and do what the 12 screamers insist on. This game has been a non-stop issuance of game skills, points, armors, and events, which then subsequently all get reneged on by the ZOSmasters, who change their own game almost monthly, apparently at the whim of the screamers.
Ok, since I can't beat the screamers I am going to join them. I hereby demand (scream for) no VR levels, no money for anyone who has more than $100,000 (what I have -- please cap it there asap), no cp for anyone who has more than me, no ap for anyone who has more than me, no armor better than mine, no crafting abilities better than mine (cap demanded asap on all crafting, with my levels as the max), no guilds who sell more than mine (cap asap, ty), and free maelstrom weapons for everyone. In fact I hereby scream for all the inventory gold chests that PTS toons at VR16 are getting now, but I scream for them on live for everyone for free, AND I MEAN RIGHT FRIGGING NOW!
This still does not make sense to me. Thats like saying remove level 40-50 because then instead of getting cp at 50 we get it at 40. Why not remove leveling altogether then? There must be something more that i don't understand or know about.
I still want someone to actually explain to me why they should be removed.

Level 1 - 50 flows really nicely, it's fun to play and it gets you to the point where you know your character pretty well, but grinding out the vet ranks is nothing more than a chore. If they set max level to 50 then silver and gold go from being a mindless slog to a place you pop in to when you need a few more skill points.

With this reasoning you might as well make all content doable with a lvl 1 toon and do away with leveling altogether.
This mindset of wanting it all and not having to work for it baffles me. IMO the more challenging the path the greater the rewards, both real and imaginary!
I've earned everything I have in this game...
here comes a nerf bat to the old players, and a buff for the new players....
"oh you guys did a great job paying us this whole year + now take this nerf bat to the side of the head.. LOL Ohh, and were gonna give the casual player a really big boost so they stomp you in leaderboards and pvp"
