OK try this link - http://www.twitch.tv/zenimaxonlinestudios/profile/past_broadcasts

    or Google search "zenimax live"

I'm really concerned that everyone was arguing about this but had not watched the live twitch

anyways...its always good to check out past broadcasts and the next one is May 8th to stay tuned.

Yes, there has to be text chat in a MMO
Found a video on 4/24 that talk about text chat at 52:40 and 1:22:45

Their excuse is pathetic. They exclude it because they "are targeting a sitting on the couch, kicking back, and just playing kind of experience." That's it. That's all they said for why they removed it as a "design choice".

I'm just glad my support ticket response says they are reconsidering adding text chat on consoles now that the fan feedback was so terrible about it.

Nice that it has to come to a fiasco for them to reconsider. Why can't their design team come down from the ivory tower and figure out what the players need before making choices.

What I don't understand is why wouldn't they have text chat? And what the ---- does chatting via text have to do with on the couch and kicking back? Can't you type on the couch kicking back? Huh?

We chill on the couch playing Warframe on the ps4 a more intense shooter mmo and i can still type insanely quickly while in a gun fight sooo no idea bud maybe they want to see eso fail in numbers on the consoles as well lol.

The video changes nothing about us pro-text chatters @NewBlacksmurf , if anything it makes those of us that want text chat even more annoyed with ZoS, now that we know their incredibly terrible "reasoning" behind it's elimination.

EDIT: Also, the only reason I didn't watch it in the first place is because my internet can't handle live streaming on Twitch, and even if I could, I don't have 2 hours in a row to watch a video which might not even talk about anything I care about. Honestly 99% of that and all ESO Live videos are just them rehashing things that have already been said/seen before. For example: The 52:40 mark about text chat on consoles was them literally just reading word-for-word what the Help and Support page says about it.

but here is the very important part....
honestly, it makes any argument someone has very invalid if you're not going to the source for your information.
OR if you go to the source and your response is...I wont accept that.

Its not your game...its theirs made for the targeted audience of their desires to play.

Its why I continued to say to everyone...its the "add text chat" people that were making people adapt because ZOS had already changed development and publicly wrote it on the forums and in the Twitch live. It why I kept saying to people that i'm supporting ZOS and why I kept pointing out that people's idea of who ZOS should target and what an MMO should have is not the agenda.

honestly...its very upsetting to have logical discussions with people who don't have a base of understanding of what they are talking about.
Its why some of us begin creating FYI threads in helping people understand certain limitations and ideas around what we were experiencing.

Don't take it personal as I'll forget about it in a few minutes but...to me, if I wee ZOS, I'd not pay much attention to any feedback that are from anyone who isn't keeping track of public information and presentations done by the company designed for its current and future customers.

    BUT that's why I'm just a participant.
:-) happy gaming everyone and see you all around in other discussions and maybe in game too.

I actualy posted about this days ago but it was overlooked
According to what the lead console UI designer said on the Apirl 24th ESO live stream (I'm not joking go watch it for yourself) they took out text chat because he felt it was awkward sitting on a couch with a keyboard in his lap ....

They seriously think that little about us...

Never heard of a lap desk, or a entertainment media center already set-up with a keyboard, or hell even the built in texting/keyboard options for both consoles?

You have to open you mind up to a marketing campaign vs. our little bubble. Don't take it personal at all as it not targeted at you or rather against you.
I"m in the bubble too so I often have a hard time swallowing some things ZOS presents BUT, the reality is this.

It's their game, their bills, their projects, and investors.

Also, we all can agree that there are much less folks who fall into the (couch/keyboard +console) group.
If possible, it helps to put ourselves in their position...

I do think if they wanted to put text chat into the consoles they would benefit from having a company design a TESO keypad for each console. GAME CHANGER53150368.jpg

Thing is I AM thier target audience ... I am a console player, I only picked up the PC version after they delayed the console release a year ago & offered the $20 copy deal to get my ESO fix. Played for the free month & stopped , not because I hated the game or anything, but because I wanted to play on my console.

Zeni has obviously made their choice. Based on the heavily polarized, but seemingly balanced debate, the best course of action is to leave it the way it is, and that's what zeni will likely do. Face it, my fellow old timers, the days of text chat are nearing an end as far as gaming goes. Adapt or be excluded.

A post I made on the previous page: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/1773312/#Comment_1773312
Just got this little tidbit from the Customer Support email:

    "Hi ,

I'm really sorry for the delay of answer, we have been quite busy lately.

We are well aware of the feedback regarding the chat on console and even though it will probably not be available at the release, but this is something we are considering thanks to the feedback from the players as you just did.
Regarding your second question, there is no plan to remove the text chat from the PC version so you don't have to worry about it :)

I hope I answered to your questions and concerns and I wish you a great day.

    Warmest regards,
    Yoann
The Elder Scrolls Online Tamriel Unlimited Team"

Two things to get from this:
1 - Text chat support could very well come to console still, due to the incredibly high amount of feedback wanting it.
2 - The other thread that said since Voice Chat is coming to PC, it might mean text chat will be gone like consoles (I can't find that thread for some reason) was purely not true.

They are considering adding it to the console version, due to the incredibly high amount of feedback wanting it back. It wasn't balanced at all.

I'll let you in on something about ZOS...it took 12 months to revamp the console for release
It also took 12 months to remove the sub
It's on track to take 12 months to remove VR levels
It took over 12 months for any DLC excluding Craglorn
It took 12 months to decide during closed beta to limit add-on support

If they are going to add text chat...it'll take a while and I'd be more inclined to go off ZOS comments in the forums over support emails

Been there done that with a Data Load Error that plagued us from beta due to the big red missing boxes ...the fix was to remove the reporting of the error but they just now 16 months later fixed the red missing boxes but the building error is till present when textures and walls are missing from buildings

I'm not trying to be negative but just being honest about what we've experienced since 2013 closed BETA

I wouldn't go as far as to say pathetic but I feel some of your pain. It is there game, and if they want to make it only emote communication, they can. I just think they should offer all the options too and not stonewall alternates. It is hard enough to get active players without excluding them yourself.

It's obvious it's plain laziness on ZOS part, just refer to the awful, studdering, response in the ESO live video. I did read the response the one person posted here from support, the email. I have zero faith in their email responses. I have had a email support ticket open since February for a issue with ESO on PC. I get a reply every week that they are working on a fix, my last reply was today. It's almost May.

Yea...forget it, I don't put any weight in what support responds with. They obviously won't say "No, we will never add chat. have a great day!". They will tell you whatever to keep you as a customer.

Like I said before for those of you that want text chat and all addons with crap allover your screens then stick with the pc version... You guys have a choice... so stop trying to control and change what those of us that love the features The Elder Scrolls experience on the console has... YOU GUYS HAVE THE PC VERSION WITH ALL OF THAT.. Stick with that..... The Elder scrolls veterans like me will not change our minds.. I see the forums are mostly filled with mmo players, well then go and keep voicing your demands for the pc and any change you want of that, and while you guys try to destroy the pc version, I will be happy playing the console version...

I can remember when I first got Morrowind for the xbox when it first came out and Oblivion I never never had to hear about how people that played on the pc were more elite than the console people it was a nice community, but that all changed for the worse now that mmo players gotta get involved and critique and try to change everything that they like or dislike about their run of the mill linear games by numbers mmos, that's what separates the 2 fan bases.. Sorry but I think Bethesda should have had just built this game for The ES fans only and stuck with that and if the mmo players wanted to try it out then cool, and when I say ES fans im not just talking about Skyrim fans, im talking about other ES games before that mainstream dumb down household Skyrim 1, 2 Skyrim online newbie misinformed bullcrap that annoys me too when I hear it... cus I was a fan of this franchise long before that game..... Basically im a fan for life!!! that's all I gotta say and im not changing my mind!!!

Yet...my thread here, this poll, is a simple one. They had text chat in the code. It's in there. This is a PC port to console, you should understand that. The text chat is there in console. They decided to turn it off. I can assure you there is a console UI already built to use the text chat functionality...that's already there.

    Well anyways, since you're done...well, bye. :/

I will give a mother comment.
You guys have to realize that there are some very passionate followers of this series like the comment above.
There are some very passionate forum members who often paid a sub just to contribute to others having a much better experience as I spend more time in the forums than playing...well maybe that's a half truth

Anyways there are those that have fan sites and info sites, video blogs and all types of support for ZOS.

They offer their own opinions but largely are in support of the game and any direction ZOS is going that aligns with TES series.

I recall a few guilds quoting in closed beta because ZOS didn't want to do "what the guild thought should be done" and ZOS went on live twitch and point blank let us know...they are for who is for them and not going to tolerate any large groups or communities who try to control them

    Lesson learned.

Now to this topic there are a lot of members who in my opinion readily provide waaayy more info and resources that I could ever imagine providing.

They've been following and providing TESO details and info or updates since 2013 when the nda broke.
I've personally found it helpful to stay around and benefit off all their hard work and in my own way support them supporting ZOS.

This game has been a very long time coming for console and many of us who have followed and been in support of Pc and console can easily pick a platform and play the experience we see fit. Anything else is really just causing an unneeded uproar and divide. ZOS continues to drive this horse and I've jumped onboard.

If you're use to getting your way by slamming the forums...this isn't the company for you. While they intently listen sometimes those ears are just to understand their customers voices in order to professionally respond and address any concerns.
So when I see any "I won't accept this" or "they better change or I won't buy" my personal attitude towards those is this.

The community doesn't need that and doesn't benefit from that.
You have to find a way to share your opinions but when the company speaks...say OK, and move on

We all want to meet and play with more friends which is why we come here.
When this becomes a zone chat spam...it becomes a problem which is why some of us are anti-text chat on console.

Please choose to be a part of the positive voices on the forums and stay around as we'd love to continue playing meeting you and your friends.

If you cannot do this, please respectfully come back when you can. We all need breaks as I even had to step away for three months. It's ok

Not sure why anyone would think this "poll" means anything.

The vast majority of console players aren't on these forums.

The majority won't be using text chat.

And if they don't use it or want it, why would they want to give others an advantage in a PvP game?

Summation: This poll is biased, flawed, meaningless and the entertainment value is mediocre at best.

I wish nothing but joy for everyone.
