What will we do when all words are trademarked? 😂

Invent new ones? Hmm. I have a word I made up.... wonder if I should trademark it before other authors start using it.

When I was young, my go-to made up word to avoid using bad words was “Fragoogle.” I was a bit peeved when Google became a thing.

Oh gosh! Now that is a true bummer.... What a GREAT word!

Now, I just did some research - the word I made up/created is not, by itself, trademarkable. If it were attached to a business, item, product - then yes. Otherwise, no.

    *sigh* Oh well.

So... what are they gonna do when they inevitably release new Class sets? Are they just gonna dump them into "Infinite" Archive (IA)? That seems like it'd be pretty boring.

Personally, I'd like to see them expand on IA with each new Class set drop. They could do new Stage designs and reuse other bosses. Different "Visions/Verses". However, I think this whole "Archive" aesthetic kind of paints them into a corner there. IA seems pretty deadset on the "library" aesthetic... What if it was called "Infinite Adventures" though? or "Endless Trails"? or "Daedric Trials"? They could have different aesthetic designs with different mobs and motifs.

But maybe they would just create a whole new IA for a different Daedric realm. Like how they do it for the different Arenas. Idk.

    Some other names: "Mora's Private Study"(MPS), "Mora's Tomes"(MT), "Mora's Prison of Ink"(MPI), "Hoards of Knowledge"(HK), "Knowledge Unbound"(***), "Apocrypha's Library"(AL), "Apocrypha's Archive"(AA).

Edit: Not sure why that one abbreviation was filtered out, as English isn't my main language. Apologies if it means something bad.

Lol, before I read that bit ^ I was wondering why it censored it, too. And English is (embarrassingly) the only language I know. So… I think you’re good. Seems like an arbitrary thing to censor.

Ah we get to go in there infinitely now instead of endlessly. Nothing is named as it is here, my Husband calls Atolls of Immolation by the name Atolls of Humiliation, nothing gets the default name.

A number of censored words are drug references that probably almost no one has ever heard of. I can't imagine ZOS has thought of all of these themselves, so they must get the list from somewhere else. Maybe Vanilla Forums does it for them.

Anyway, it would have been cool if they had come up with a clever name that spelled something other than IA. Still, it is better than "EA", which reminded me of the game company, so I never used it. I can see myself saying IA.

Hermaeus's Apocryphal Library (HAL) is another one.

This has to be either a joke or some legal thing. If it's to avoid a legal battle with Sega, I kinda understand... companies can "own" common words, I guess? Otherwise this seems quite unnecessary and wasteful. Branding, marketing, coding, nothing is free. Endless and infinite are very similar words so it's akin to changing violet to purple.

So, if it's not to avoid legal battles over a common English word, then I would also suggest the following name changes:
    Scalecaller Apex
    Shipwright's Remorse
    Moontomb Fane
    Rock Garden
    Imperial City Jail
    Waychill Sewers
    Cot of Shadows

Also, will the name of the northernmost Wayshrine in Coldharbour be changed to Infinite Stair Wayshrine?

Also struggling to think why the abbreviation is censored. My only language is English and working in the legal profession I thought I knew most drug references.

The only time I have seen that word/abbreviation before was in an old game I used to play where most of my guild was Russian and that word was the equivalent of hi.

Nice! Most I like Apocrypha's Library (AL) because it refers to mastering the secrets for which you often use books.

    I would like to suggest:

"Fractured Archive", "Fragmented Memory" or "The Fragments" (due to its contents from different dungeons, trial, etc.) or "The Snake's Pit".

They can trademark phrases, words, even numbers, used in a certain context, like product names or titles.

(Edited by Elsonso to remove additional discussion of trademarks)

I think it sounds fine too.

But will probably call it endless out of spite since copywrite quibbles like this, where it is clearly not the case of someone trying to fraudulently make money off another product, annoy me.

    What's in a name?

I'm more concerned that the change will require a 15 hour maintenance window, a 25GB download, "extended maintenance" for the EU server (just because), and total disruption to the holiday event due to "problems some players might be experiencing logging in"... that won't get fixed until the new year.

I'm prepared for the worst... now I can hope for the best :)

Well, it will take some time for me to get used that IA is now Infinite Archive instance but not the Infallible Aether set.

As for calling it just as Archive, it will be confusing due to Aetherial Archive trial is still exists. No matter Endless or Infinite the new one is.

Anyway the new name is better, if you ask me. EA abbreviation was confusable with some game studio.

its been many years, but the dungeon crypt of hearts has the shorthand COH

because of all the years i spent playing that game, i still see COH = city of heroes lol

edit: for aetherian archive, ive always used the shorthand AA for that one, which is pretty common

I think it’s silly that a company can claim trademark to a word they didn’t invent. Endless Archive =/= Endless Dungeon and frankly sounds better (I’m not sure what would pair well with “dungeon” but “endless” is definitely not it, but whatever).

However, I don’t blame ZOS for not wanting to waste resources fighting such a battle, and Infinite Archive works almost as well, and will be a less confusing acronym, not that I actually thought Electronic Arts was being discussed, but it is the first thing that comes to mind upon seeing EA in a gaming context. IA has no such associations that I know of.
