As they continue with their overambitious development schedule, time becomes a valuable commodity. Things like bugs and new event rewards get pushed to the back burner, and devs stay focused on cranking out new chapters to sell. So they look to give rewards that take zero time away from busy devs.... like they did with this free DLC. It was already completed, so grab it and go.

Just for being a Blackwood chapter owner and assuming the community challenge succeeds, ZOS is giving away the end of year dlc to Blackwood owners as the greatest reward they could possibly give - the playable game content to finish the story. Not understanding how this is a terrible reward or kick in the teeth. Assuming that the ESO+ subscriber owns Blackwood, then they will also get to own the dlc for free as well. I don't believe that anyone from ZOS will kick an ESO+ subscriber in the teeth. So don't worry. You'll just get dlc like the other Blackwood owners.

As an ESO Plus subscriber... ZOS giving away the DLC to unsubscribed Blackwood players is a WIN for me because it opens up the zone to more players.

Doesn’t make much difference in the log run even if you open it to every player in the game… it will be dead two week after release like clockwork and all the other dlc zones. People won’t go back until an event comes around. This year the new “content” was a companion (a virtual ai for a game with virtual friends). … but there isn’t even a new companion included with this dlc. It would be the same as releasing the antiquity system with greymoor and then not including any more antiquities. It seems as though recently every dlc and chapter released is always missing one more thing that had been previously included, like the new motifs last dungeon dlc.
The issue isn’t so much as the reward it is the manner in which is was presented. We we lead to believe that the “surprise reward” was for the community coming together to celebrate and accomplish a goal. In reality, it is a reward that benefits only a small fraction for he community so what’s the point in participating in getting the pathfinder achievements? Finally at the core is the fact that this isn’t the first time that eso subscribers are devalued on their yearly content. It happened with murkmire and rightly so there was a negative community response, so why do it again knowing the outcome? For being the paying backbone of the community, eso plus members certainly seem to be getting the short end of the stick for supporting the game. I understand it is nothing more than a marketing tactic, and a business decision to sell more Blackwood copies, but that shouldn’t come at the cost of alienating the yearly subscribers. In my opinion this was a huge misstep.

Great Gift For:
- New players who only bought the Blackwood Chapter
- Non ESO+ subscribers
Meaningless Gift For:
- Everyone that Subscribes to ESO+
Why does the ESO+ community feel slighted?
- Because their subscription literally financially supports the continued existence of the game. Because even if they get the DLC for free it’s not as if their subscription costs have gone down. Regular ESO+ subscribers are not incentivized to outright buy DLCs because it means that they’re essentially getting less for their buck. If they own the DLC then they’re still paying $15 a month for a craft bag. And if they stop playing well then what’s the point of “owning” a DLC?

The reward is for and benefits all Blackwood owners by rewarding them with free dlc! It's a Blackwood event. Not a reward for having ESO+ or not owning Blackwood. You have Blackwood? If you answered yes, then you can win the reward too!

Any condition in which a player has an active subscription to eso plus, with or without Blackwood, they no longer have any benefit from the reward.

I pay for HBOMax. Say HBO decides to give everyone who sees The Many Saints of Newark the digital ability to watch all of The Sopranos whenever they use the app, regardless of the subscription.
I’m still paying full price for HBOMax. What did I gain here?
Now apply that to this situation with Blackwood and DEADLANDS.
Melliott247 wrote: »If this was a marketing ploy then it has backfired IMO.
It has annoyed many of the players who pay for ESO+ AND have payed for the latest expansion (rather than waiting for the content to be added to ESO+ next year).
It would have made sense for ESO+ members to get some free crowns instead.
ESO Plus members get a ton of benefits just from subscribing. A no-Crown-cost something every month and discounts beyond that in the Crown Store. Crowns for each month subscribed. DLC while subscribed. It may be a false hope, but my expectation is that the bulk of the ESO Plus players don't even care.
My personal view is that anyone who is so outraged about this that they cancel their ESO Plus was not going to stick around for long, anyway. I mean, when people total everything up, and that adds up to a justification for ESO Plus, then it must be very close to the line if this tips the scales.
This is why I think that the bulk of ESO Plus subscribers don't care enough about this to make an issue over it. There can't be that many people sitting right on the fence.

Honestly, the only thing worth the sub are the combination of housing limits, bank space, crafting bags, and dlc access. The crown discounts are not frequent nor useful enough to matter all that much and the free collectable is a joke of a token.
HonestlyLady_Galadhiel wrote: »I miss the days where we killed dragons for charity to save kitties, now THAT was a great reward and something so many people where happy to participate and no one cared for the in game rewards we got at the end.
You know, I can honestly say that was one event where I didn't care about the rewards I personally received, because it was for a good cause.
But there isn't a good cause behind this one as it's an effort to increase blackwood sales to people that don't own it, yet. It only benefits ZOS and a portion of the community. So I DO care about the rewards the send to us this time round, and I personally find them lacking. It's OK though because I won't be spending my time on the event and I won't be buying more copies of Blackwood as a result, nor will I be gifting the dlc to some friends who don't sub, thus saving me some crown purchases. And the rest of yall will get my rewards from the event for me.
So there, I guess I found my reward that work for me, ZOS saved me several hundred dollars of purchases that I might have sent there way.

You're joking, right? This is sarcasm?
The reward is for and benefits all Blackwood owners by rewarding then with free dlc! It's a Blackwood event. Not a reward for having ESO+ or not owning Blackwood. You have Blackwood? If you answered yes, then you can win the reward too!
The only players that benefit from this event are those that own Blackwood and will never subscribe to eso plus, and those that own Blackwood and will cancel their eso plus after the dlc launches to never subscribe again.
Any condition in which a player has an active subscription to eso plus, with or without Blackwood, they no longer have any benefit from the reward.
Eso plus members can say they don’t feel upset, or they are happy for those that benefit from it all they want … it doesn’t change the facts from above.
But now you will own it. Regardless. Fact. (Assuming you own Blackwood and the community is victorious otherwise you'll have to continue renting access or purchase with crowns or work out a trade)

Actually we all benefit from the event rewards, but if you don't have the dlc yet then you get an extra bonus
I pay for HBOMax. Say HBO decides to give everyone who sees The Many Saints of Newark the digital ability to watch all of The Sopranos whenever they use the app, regardless of the subscription.
I’m still paying full price for HBOMax. What did I gain here?
Now apply that to this situation with Blackwood and DEADLANDS.
your missing the point, what did you lose?
I pay for a film channel that gives me 99 channels, as a special offer The provider offers 1 of those channels to pay as you go customers for free, and i get it for free too. I'm not really offended by that lol.

And owning it means absolutely nothing as long as you have an active eso subscription. (And you technically don’t even own it).
It would be the same as an apartment complex saying that the nearby neighborhood gets free access to the pool. As a resident you already pay for the pool access in your lease agreement. You pay that fee with living there. If you ever chose to leave and go live in the nearby neighborhood, you can still go to the pool. You won’t get access to the gym or other facilities in the apartment complex, only the pool. However as long as you live in the complex and want access to all the other things, you are still paying for the pool and that “free access” is meaningless to you. However if the apartment complex decides to demolish the building … the only thing you get to do is go look at the empty hole in the ground of where the pool you “own free access to” used to be.

Not really.
