So who will get the new polymorph for 500 gems?

Should have been more, less people RPing that they're character is a Spriggan when the lore does not support that. Sure, it's a spell, still such a silly polymorph to introduce. What's next? Dragon polymorph?

I'm not very interested in polymorphs, to be honest, so I wasn't really planning on getting this one even though it's pretty neat. However, 500 gems is ludicrous. Any gem is ludicrous in my opinion because I'm pretty sick of shinny stuff being locked away behind the Oblivion-take-them crates, but the fact this is even more expensive than the apex mounts is absolutely insane.

I've been waiting for a Spriggan polymorph since the Wild Hunt Transformation controversy, so it is nice that it is finally here years later.

However, the price is ridiculously high. I had anticipated 200 gems, at the most.

That said I got the polymorph, but only because I lucked out on crate pulls a few weeks ago and I have more than enough gems. But if this is what we can expect going down the line, this will probably be my last gem purchase of the sort.

Now that I have the polymorph I'm not yet sure how I feel about it. The lack of unique animations is a negative. It also changes male characters to female; one would think that since it is a premium polymorph with such a high price it would at least have a male version, but it is what it is. The quality of the skin great, but at a price point higher than an apex mount it needs more oomph.

This polymorph was on my must-have list until I saw the price. I have the gems but I cannot support this [snip]

Not very informative video, but so far the only video we have:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2halVey2XDE

Not gonna lie, this polymorph looks awesome on Wild Hunt mount and with Wild Hunt aura :o
No voice audio (is mute for attack animations and certain emotes (ex. headache), and uses default female voice for other certain emotes (ex. shout))

Thank you for the feedback! This fact is very disappointing :/
So far there was no polymorph where designers didn't make at least some voice edits (usually very good edits)... I hope this Spriggan is not starting a new era of "lazy voiced" polymorphs :(
Dataminers have found three more re-texture variations will be introduced to the game later on (Azure Blight, Bloodroot and Winterborn).

Here is link for people who want to see tiny icons and descriptions from datamines.
I'm very curious how these polymorphs are planned for release. Especially that we know about new Wild Hunt mounts datamined, which would 100% compliment all those polymorphs :o And as we can see, nothing new was added into Wild Hunt crate season. Very intriguing!

To be honest I am really disappointed in ZOS. I really like the new polymorph and would pay 3-4k crowns for it, maybe more. Putting behind crown crates though is really really poor, and making it so expensive in regards to gems is just not on.

    It's greed, pure and simple.
Yes its cool would pay 5K crowns, 500 gems, no way.
Now If it had the ESO spigans weird walk animation with the trunk and the small roots moving I would be extremely tempted.

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

500 Gems is in the region of 20-30k Crowns, if not more. We’re looking at a price point of several hundred dollars for this ugly skin. Please, don’t waste your money on stuff like this.

Was very disappointed. Putting it behind crown crates wall just shows how greedy ZOS has gotten with this stuff. Huge amount of cash for pixels. I’ve got houses that never get used, furnishings that never get used, motif, costumes, weapon styles, polymorphs, mounts, pets, and so many other items in game that never get used. I’m not throwing my hard earned cash at crown crates just to get more pixels. There are too many issues with the game and I just don’t see ZOS fixing or addressing them.

I think it’s overpriced, especially since it doesn’t have voice effects nor a unique idle animation and it doesn’t seem truly spriggan to me with two legs instead of a trunk. If you don’t like it or think it overpriced, don’t buy it. Disappointment is quite understandable, but the hyperbole of called everything expensive “predatory” is quite tiresome and frankly ridiculous.

I'll probably get it. Polymorphs keep me entertained for at least five minutes plus, if we keep giving them money, they're bound to spend it on fixing the bugs eventually.
I am seriously not liking where ZOS is going with the Crown Gems... Can't believe I am thinking of going back to WoW, but at least I can earn the mounts and pets... If the new Endeavor system is not rewarding enough I don't know if I'll stick around much longer. This is just a bit ridiculous...

Seeing these threads lately about increased pricing in gems/microtransactions has got me thinking ZOS may be trying to make up for loss that endeavors *may* cause from players earning rather than buying. Granted, it's nothing new that prices for things have been slowly increasing over time, but this year seems to have seen some much larger jumps. Sticker shock for sure. I am also curious if we are going to see more items moved from crates into gem exclusives essentially restricting what we can earn from endeavors. All speculation here of course, but if history repeats itself as usual...

    Just a random thought.

500 gems is over $200 USD unless you get insanely luck in the gambling casino.

Half the price of a new game console... for a pixel transformation?

Agreed. It's completely asinine when you consider their own competition like WoW sells many mounts/pets for $10-25 USD on their store front direct, no secondary paywall or gambling needed. Speaks for itself in spades behind the scenes of things. Less is sometimes more, and according to ZoS they have millions of players so I am not sure what the business model is after here. Seems maximizing profit while minimizing other areas is going to hurt more in the longrun imho.

I think the factotum would cost at least as much as the spriggan if they released it now, knowing what they can sell things for. 2018 prices look dirt cheap by comparison.

Ever since horse armor, when someone at Microsoft convinced Todd Howard the up the price, microtransactions have kept pushing the envelope. They used to be $2.50. Now they’re $250 — or more. Of course microtransactions aren’t exclusive to Microsoft, ZeniMax, or Bethesda, but that horse armor had the dubious honor of being called out in an FTC workshop on lootcrates as the microtransaction that really started this whole monetization scheme. It’s certainly not one I would want, but, well, pecunia non olet.

What is your point? If you’d included my whole post, I said that I agree that it is overpriced, especially since it doesn’t include altered voice nor animations. I am disappointed by that as much as the price, and the combination of both made an easy decision not to buy for me.

    Overpriced =/= Predatory

Overpriced means you don’t buy it. (That is no criticism of anyone who buys it; as different things are worth different to different people.)

To add, the Factotum polymorph was originally purchasable without gambling too. That's why I have it. And it was priced at 2k crowns. Which is still, frankly, overpriced as oblivion; everything in the cash shop is, with the exception of the DLCs. But it has gotten worse over the years, unfortunately.

This game is back on my boycott list. I regret ever making an exception for it, but at that time, the monetization wasn't as insulting and predatory as it is now. It's a shame to see beloved franchises like the Elder Scrolls muddied like this.

This is my biggest fear. Right now there are a lot of possible competitor MMORPGS on the horizon, New World, Ashes of Creation, Blue Protocol, etc. All of which offer different styles and such but many ESO players may move to one of the newer MMOs in hopes of something better. ESO will take a hit and if anything the moves they're currently making is deterring players from sticking with them.

    Overpriced =/= Predatory

Overpriced means you don’t buy it. (That is no criticism of anyone who buys it; as different things are worth different to different people.)

If a polymorph was priced at $250 flat and a mount at $1500 flat it would be overpriced, and there would be articles written about it outside of gaming it is so much so.

Rather that sort of unpopular coverage is avoided by obfuscating it, and people who aren’t familiar with how the crown gems work will keep throwing money at it - more than they originally intended for fear of loss.

We won’t, mayhap. But some people will quietly throw a lot of good money at bad till they scrape up enough chasing that 500, or whatever cost.

And most every one of them will forever say they “got lucky on crates” - very few will say they spent hundreds.

So perhaps “predatory” isn’t the right word I’ll grant you, but it was deliberately modeled to take advantage of these dynamics, and does. I won’t quibble over what adjectives get used here :)

If you stop looking at items in the crown store as being "must-haves", then it's not a problem. This type of item is there for very longterm players who have amassed piles of eso+ crowns and have nothing left to use them on. So they get a daft little graphic thing as a reward. Better that than something which affects gameplay.

If there are some people desperate enough for pixels that they buy and recycle crates solely for the morph, that's their own bad judgement. Just say no.
