Flying Mounts after Group Mounts Release

Again, I would be perfectly happy if all they did was "fly" at ground level, and only when running or sprinting.

Of course the ultimate fantasy is free flight, or maybe even higher altitude hovering. Too many people people assume the impossible is the only way, instead of the many reasonable approaches to introducing flying mounts, on a small or somewhat grand scale.

As far as PvP goes.... simple solution. Introduce permanent siege equipment on the walls of keeps angled up at the flying altitude (cannot be used on ground troops), and they can shoot down flying mounts. Then the rider takes fall damage. Problem solved. So can we get our flying mounts now?

Hello all, I have been playing eso since day 1 release and beta on pc, and I am really excited for group mounts! It’s really a dream come true for eso and adds more to group playing with your friends even better! The next thing I would want to see in ESO is flying mounts. With upcoming mmos also adding flying mounts it would make much sense for eso to take the same turn as others and make flying mounts. They can always disable them in pvp or make them hover instead of fly so that way they’re still usable, or simply make a mechanic where the mount can go to ground mode like a regular mount or flying mode so that way it can fly and disable flying mode for pvp. This would be great because it would allow people to actually want to explore the world in eso flying around instead of using wayshrines. And this is an easy money grabber for ZoS. Think about all the people that would easily try to buy a flying mount. We are already introduced to npcs flying gryphons in cloudrest and the welkynars flying gryphons. We’ve seen the Dragonborn in Skyrim with the abilities to ride on dragons. So why can’t we get started with flying mounts on eso? I’m all up for it and will gladly support it! Let me know some of your thoughts down below!

    Oh by the Divines, NO.

Besides pvp, the game wasn't designed with flying mounts in mind. If they did start flying mounts, they'd also start the constant rants about loading screens. Riding, even running sometimes, is enough to trigger screen loads, even in pve. If the controls don't allow the rider to do aerial acrobatics there will be rants. There is no way that the people who desperately want flying mounts for whatever reasons will ever be satisfied with what the devs do. I'd much rather they add sailable ships to the game instead of flying mounts.

Yeah, the Dragonborn in Skyrim. The single player game. Who originally got to ride on ONE dragon because that dragon allowed it. Didn't you ever see the forum complaints, when they added dragon mounts, about how crappy the control was, and they might as well as not added it for all the fun it was.

If it were to be implemented, i think it would have to be in new zones that they specifically designed for it. To be candid, they have bigger fish to fry with game performance, and this wouldn't help. Would be cool in theory, but I think the practical ramifications make it next to impossible to implement effectively.

And devs have address why: the game was simply not crated to be viewed from that angle. To add "flying" it would require re-creating thje ENTIRE world, and yes, changing the game engine too. If they were unwilling to do so during years 1-6, I highly doubt that ZOS is willing to take on that endeavor now, with much more content that must be re-done,

Yeah until modders fixed bethesdas problem and was able to make dragons fully controllable through flight, also there is a shout to make any dragon u want at least in open world to bend there will I believe and make them fly you up. Not just 1 dragon.

The areas in this game are not designed to accommodate flying. There are invisible walls in many locations you would not expect. It would also allow bypassing of certain quest related barriers. The designers would have to do an extensive rework of zones to make this functional.

So? Instead of adding another zone/chapter following the same boring schema lets make all zones we have a bit more spicy! Instead of creating new zone, rework the old ones. I think it could beat all chapters we already have. Imagine possibilities, new dungeons, trials, areas in zones etc. etc. Sky literally would be the limit.

Ahh loved the days in Aion my first mmo I really invested time in. Thought it had floating mounts, but it was flying characters and flight combat that was really awesome.

No fit for eso thought, maybe for floating mounts at best

Yeah, flying and gliding was really wesome there and it made traversing through maps much much easier :)

Yep even thought you couldn’t fly through entirety of the map due to flying restriction zones, but you were able to glide even from the smallest cliff🙂

It was well implemented in Aion’s rich fantasy world, shame that game died after Gameforge took over. Well it’s still alive and gets updates, but i bet population is way scarce on Na/eu servers

NCSoft created amazing game but Gameforge as always monetised it and milked it till the game almost died, they do it with every game they touch.

...and I miss some Aion solutions like flying and gliding, rifts, dredgions, 1v1 arenas.

do you have ANY idea how long this would take? the amount of work this would take? any at all? rethorical question, the answer is no, you do NOT have any idea.

reminder. we. have. no. 3 axis. movement. of any. kind. in this. game.

    we.

    can NOT.

    DIVE.

    we

    can NOT

    swim under water.

not only would they have to rework the zones, they would have to design the entirely new SYSTEM of movement from scratch first. because it does NOT exist in this engine for player characters. whatever movement they use for npc's - doesn't seem to be applicable to players, or we would have had diving and swimming on day one. older games have it. whatever version of hero engine this game uses? doesn't seem to.

it took Blizzard with their resources that are FAR more extensive then ZoS and ESO - over two years to redesign original zones to allow for flight. and they rebuild most of them more or less from scratch. while already having worked out the flight itself several expansions ago and having flight enabled in those zones, so THAT was in game already AND having had diving in game from the start. how long do you think this will take ZoS? how many players do you think are willing to wait through NO new content to get a system in this game that doesn't enhance it nearly as much as you think it would, given how much easier and faster travel in ESO is already?

now. I love flight. I do. I am that person who argued both on official forums AND MMO champion against removal of flight as well as design of pathfinder achievements in WoW. I am that person who didn't originally buy warlords of draenor and didn't subscribe until blizzard caved and added flight back in. I'm saying this to demonstrate that i'm not arguing against flight in ESO because I'm anti flight. I'm arguing against it because i do not believe its worth investment of effort when not only are there so many performance issues already that need to be fixed, but also a person who is aware what happens when MMO goes into content draught. a large chunk of playerbase - moves on.

    to put it simply.

    its.
    NOT.
    WORTH it

    in ESO.

@Linaleah You have no idea how many work it would be needed to implement it in ESO either. Apple and oranges. ESO is not WoW, it has already full graphics, its not like buildings in ESO are missing roofs, mountains have empty holes, there is no "noclip" textures etc. etc. limit the height of a flight by limiting resources used to fly so nobody will get to high... and ESO is full 3d game if you didn't noticed, we already are moving in every possible axis, its not like ZOS would have to make flight simulator, just vertical axis control.

Feel free to do a search for the numerous previous threads about flying mounts & why they won't be a thing in ESO, from Lore to game engine.

Yeah game engine probably couldn’t handle it and there’s definitely no flying mounts in ESO! None at all! Especially not in Cloud Rest! And there’s deff not an NPC riding a gryphon flying around you during the bosses! That’d break the lore!

Just to quote u on that, the lore in eso is the high elf’s were unable to fly gryphons but the welkynars which were trained high elf’s all ride on gryphons to combat. If you go to cloudrest, when fighting the boss after u have defeated the boss and move on to the next, you will see an NPC welkynar high elf flying outside of the arena area at the mini boss area. So yea npcs in eso do have flying mounts. And yes it is part of the eso lore in terms of the high elf’s in summer set and the welkynars. And yes dragon borns can tame dragons and ride on there backs in elder scrolls lore like miraak and dragon Born From Skyrim. And to all the people that did not read the OP. The flying aspect will be disabled in cyrodiil.

EDIT: Also forgot to mention the dwemer airships that are in elder scrolls lore, that would be a cool flying mount or group flying mount opportunity if it ever came on eso. start charging uber services in eso with dwemer airship lol

All the examples listed are rare individuals, not the norm.

Lol :D Do you have any idea how coding in games work? Can't tell it for sure when it comes to this game but usually flying is not some kind of magickal coded movement, you disable gravity for certain object and voila, it's flying, now this object needs to just move straight forward looking up and down changes his distance from the ground. It's not real environment, you don't have to code aerodynamics. Next thing is just to add animation, to make it more real add a bit of floating up and down and there you go. No additional controls needed, no extreme coding. Heck you could fly in many single player games just by typing cheats (example could be Skyrim) the only thing we were missing was animation.

And about missing textures. When you clip through texture into inside of object it will have missing textures almost always and housing allows for this, but in normal environment you can't clip through textures and you can't see them missing... And even this can be used as reversed argument, since we already have ways to clip through textures and traverse through areas we shouldn't be able to, what's the difference?

moreover, how do you take a bug, like clipping through the world - a feature that should be allow? HOW? and yes you CAN sometimes clip through normal environment, that's kinda the point. its not supposed to happen in housing either and they patch it as soon as they figure out how.

No, we are more realistic and/or relativistic, who also may or may not share your opinion 🤨.

I for one don't think flying mounts are awesome and definitely shouldn't be added to ESO, because: 1. They don't fit lore-wise. 2. The game engine simply can't handle it. 3. There are loading screens between every zone. 4. The zones feel small enough as it is. 5. There are better things for ZoS to spend time and resources on. 6. We don't want the game more unstable. And on it goes.

I would like to have diving in the game though. But I also know that this is not possible, because of many of the same reasons flying isn't. So I settle for wanting things that is possible.

Launch character and they disconnect. .. Poof .... Gone

That would be Funny ... in a cruel kind of way
