They simply added another line to the attributes. At the bare minimum, they could have compromised with a token dropped from a new run, so you could "perfect" your current weapon. (Insert the old chestnut about a good compromise leaving everyone unhappy)
I'm still of the mindset that this was handled in about the worst way possible.
The addition of that attribute does make the weapon uniquely different than any previous design of the MA or Master weapon. So yes, it is accurate and appropriate to call the Perfected MA and Master weapons new.

No. They have changed sets wildly before, so much that they didn't resemble their old version at all any more. And still they forced those changes on all previously acquired sets, instead of introducing new ones.
Just last patch, Tremorscale was completely overhauled. It is, for all intents and purposes, a completely new set. But they didn't keep the old version, they changed all sets in the game.
They added an attribute to all Perfected Asylum weapons (and changed other things, as well). Still, they didn't introduce those as new weapons, they nerfed them all.
The hypocrisy in all this is ... mindboggling.
At this point many of us, including me, have refarmed the weapons. It took me around 30 vMA and 10 vDSA runs to get what I wanted. That was a lot of time these past few weeks and I would be upset if I learned it wasn’t necessary. It would be even more insulting at this point to reverse the decision.

No. They have changed sets wildly before . . .

Yes, they have. But this was not changing a set as the set that was in-game is still in-game. So not hypocrisy either.

Interesting, now somebody is afraid that their 30 runs could be wasted...No matter that other players did 100 runs, or few 100's of runs in the past
There is nothing more insulting in the game so far, than Maelstrom weapons dropping at normal MA since Greymoor (and of course, not updating veteran weapons for all who already had them).
I see that many people are cheering cause of it, and it's actually scary. At this point, nothing stops developers to raise the gear cap to CP180, for example. People would complain (like about MA and DSA weapons), and then most of people would just go back to game and refarm all gearSuch strong wish to refarm same gear shows that it's acceptable to disrespect players so much
In one old thread where people demanded to drop slightly worse version of vMA weapons in normal arena, somebody rightfully told: MA is so easy that final chest should have nothing more than simple rubedite dagger of fire, for all the effort... And years later, here we are - final chest in super easy arena drops veteran rewards

Somebody should drag this dead horse out of the room.
