Just an idea for a fun thread. Share your “back in my day” stories! They can be things you liked or didn’t like about the game.

For instance, when I first played the areas had different level mobs. So, if you wanted to grind places you had to memorize the different spots and progress as you leveled. I like One Tamriel because everything can be played (mostly) at any level but I sometimes miss the land/level progression. It gave me a sense of achievement and encouraged exploring.

Back in my day there were only 5 mounts, all horses, and each character could only reasonably use 1 at a time because you had to go to a stable to swap them and the training benefits only applied to that specific horse. If you maxed out speed on your black horse then switched to the white one your speed was back down to 0.

Oh, and each of the 3 gold-bought horses (brown paint, bay dun and midnight) started with 10 points in one riding skill and only that mount could train that skill (but only that skill) to 60, all the rest were capped at 50. If I remember correctly it was speed for the black horse, stamina for the bay and inventory for the paint.

The brown, white and palamino horses could only get to 50 in each skill, so the 2 exclusives (white with the Imperial edition, palomino bought through the web store) were actually worse than what you could get in-game with gold. Which I guess proves that pay-to-lose wasn't a new concept for April Fools. :D

(Personally I'm glad they changed that. I like having a variety of different mounts and being able to swap between them whenever I want.)

    Back in my day
I had crystal frags that would stun and I'd be on days long conquest or Cyrodiil.
I had a third bar to play support and utility with.
I had a fleet of working destro bombers ready to dispose of zergs.

I had a Storc who would act like a Swiffer. Picking up kills like as if they were dust.
I had worth while Caltrops that would last more then 10s,
a brawler cleave that would make the cut bleed,
a steel tornado that would sweep people up.
Twin slashes that would leave gashes
Vigor that would fill my team mates with rigor.
A Crit charge that was large,
A dark deal that would congeal,
And a blade cloak that would last.

    The mighty have fallen.

Back in my day there was no werewolf or vampire things in the crown store. I didn't even know tey were in the game till I ran into a werewolf in Bangkorai and found myself talking to the weird lady in Evermore afterwards. When I realized werewolves were a thing I cured myself, found a vampire, and became a vampire instead!

oh god, VR levels were SAVAGE. When you finally hit VR1 then you look at the long road still ahead of you. Kids these days don't know how good they've got it.

Back in my day hitting level "50" was just the beginning of your grind. We also didn't have transmute stones and had to farm dungeons so long our eyes would bleed just to get the armor piece we wanted in a crap trait. Sharpened was BiS and Nirnhoned wouldn't even thought about at all.
Back in my day non-vet pvp was balanced. Everyone had the same stats. Upgrading the quality didn't matter, and you could use level 4 gear all the way through to level 50. The ONLY thing that changed your stats was percentage based gear, so Willow's was quite popular.

We had no crown crates <3

Back in my day, you had to go on an actual quest to get the free housing, and then you still couldn't get the free housing until you bought a piece of furnishing to put in it.

Back in my day, fishing bait didn't tell you what kind of water it was good for, and fishing holes didn't tell you what kind of water they were.

    Luxury!

I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, drink a cuppa sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down t'mill, and pay t'mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad and our mother would kill us, and dance about on our graves singing 'Hallelujah.'

But you try and tell the young people today that... and they won't believe ya'.

Back in my Day, you had to kill Molag Bal on order to voisit other factions.

Back in my day, everyone had to use color-mismatching outfits as they found them, and suffer looking less then impressive.

Back in my day, Doshia or Mannimaroc in Sancre Tor broke players spirits as they failed to defeat them time and time again.

Back in my day, you never saw another alliance player unless you fought them in cyrodil, and cadwells regions were rather empty.

Back in my day, you had to PvP or do dailies after clearing each of cadwells regions to make up the difference in veteran ranks so you could use the next regions gear.

Back in my day the Lyris Doppleganger, Mannimarco, and Molag Bal fights were actually rather difficult and challenging and you had to do the harbodage quests every 5 levels and nothing scaled and once you hit level 50/vr1 you wouldn't gain xp until you started questing in the vr1 zone of the next alliance and you could, at any time, fall through the world or be dropped to your death after porting to your destination via wayshrine.
