Back in my day we used to duel by a broken bridge in Cyrodiil.

I forget now but VR7 or 10 used to be the cap.

Back in my day stamina dks used fire.
Then DarkBro dlc came on and zos though it would be a good idea to slap poison unto everything. But before getting assassins (nightblades) to use dlc themed poison, they chose dragon-knights

Doshia was seemly impossible to kill and hitting VR15 was party time! Huzzah!!
    :)

Correction, that should be vr16. Vet ranks were originally v10. Less than 2 months after launch Zos had the brilliant idea of increasing the level cap to v12 forcing the few that had reached the game to grind/craft more gear. Before the year was out Zos continued with such ingenious plans and increased the level cap again to v14 because they made SO for that level. LOL. They held off a bit until IC to increase the level cap again because we basically explained how their designs for increasing the level cap lacked the sparkling ingenuity they thought it had.

I digress. But yes, reaching the level cap the first time is great.

In the spirit of the thread.

Back in my day, NB Veil of Blades was a solid ultimate. We could generate enough ultimate with trash to put one down before the first one expired.

Back in my day, when dealing with multiple targets we could generate enough ult to have several Storm Atros down at one time. Granted, not an ideal AoE ult but it was fun.

While all that is fine and dandy, I am glad we got past the high crit/ult generating meta.

Back in my day, before recall stones, I had to book it up to the gate at Ni-Mohk from Faregyl to get my last Skyshard for the Tamriel Skyshard Hunter achievement. Luckily, my mount speed and stam was maxed and I had rapids, but I still didn't think I would make it before the gate closed.

I remember right back when the game was new, lining up outside Fungal grotto and making groups outside dungeons before spamming chat was even a thing. Way before group finder.

I remember mercenary contracts (I still have a couple) - You could use them in Cyrodill and have your own mini-army.

Doshia was a nightmare. All harvesters were my absolute worst fear. So hard to kill.

30 second shields so sorcs could pop ward, dampen, & resto shield pre-fight and be at full magicka and unbeatable one on one and once you'd wasted all your resources burning them down, they would pop shields back up and nuke you. Or streak away if you got them below 50% health, lol

    NB's had high damage.

Dunmer Mag DK was the most dangerous opponent to a good player.

    You couldn't duel

Molag Bal fight was seriously tough.

World bosses could be solo'd relatively easy compared to now, though.

I'm with you, buddy. The thrill when you finally got that you could interrupt her and use AoE skills to kill the healing orbs (back when you didn't know what an AoE skill was).

Also, in my day you paid a monthly sub to play the game, so ZOS had to keep you interested in playing. Now they just need a few suckers who'll pony up for pixels and fluff, even if they just come and go to be replaced by new suckers.

Back in my day, I couldn't see my mate who had a character in a different faction because....... he was in a different faction.

One Tamriel was so exciting for us.

Before 1T you could also go back to the starter areas and feel invincible, one-shotting low level mobs. You usually did this to regain some semblance of pride after getting your butt handed to you in the main quest line, when you entered the Halls of Torment before you were at the right level.

It had its merits, as nowadays all overland is mind-numbingly easy and boring. I would argue that for all its downsides, pre-1T was better.
