ESO Population Declining @ SteamCharts

ZOS is again on a wrong track, nerfing everything and letting players leave ESO.

Lack of good contents are also to blame, players are asking for new Solo Arena or Duo but Q4 DLC becomes such a disappointment.

I have also taken a break from ESO, will get back once ZOS start putting things back on track.

I would imagine it pops back up when dlc drops, it's still 10k more that it was a few years ago

Edit, well I was only looking at peak. If I recall it used to be like 13 or 14 k back then

Since last 4 months its declining and after this DLC it will widen.

Dragonhold DLC is no way worth coming back, lack of contents, extraordinary nerfs :/

The ESO Steam General Discussion seems to contain some recent threads about players being unable to start the game at all. Besides, such cases only contribute to the exodus of ESO players from Steam.

I haven't launched ESO via Steam since around last Christmas, I think, yet I play almost daily.

What do you say then about March, April, May?

It was all gain for ZOS, current state of ESO is gettign worst only.

And here you are wrong. Many of us play for the story and I think they would be the ones that mostly play around time new dlc drops

Lets not deny the fact, ESO is suffering under current state.

Anyway, I posted for players information only.

So Steam population declined towards the end of last year, then peaked with Elsweyr, and is now declining again. I am shocked.

Nah, they fixed Steam login issue when you can't login for 12 hours until they restart whole server. I don't remember any issues related to Steam in last months.

I think you’ll find that curve is pretty common for MMOs all around when you take it out of the steam chart vacuum and remember there’s a whole real world going on out there.

Summer hits - numbers go down - people are outside or on vacation. Back to school dips are expected too. Similar dips happen due to AAA standalone releases (BL3).

Sure there’s some decline - but I doubt ZOS went into this overhaul year with Wheeler at the helm expecting anything else. Writing was on the wall when racials went under the knife that the next 18months would be turbulent. Naive to think otherwise and we’re only around half way!

The only point you’ve really proven here is that Steam users also enjoy summer! Who knew?

I'm just mildly amused by November and December 2018's low numbers. Nerfmire? Or just the Holiday season?

Point is, there are lots of factors that go into those numbers. Statistics without context don't actually prove very much about their causes at all.

I can argue. More and more people from certain countries went to Steam after the last discount week, due to the regional pricing of Steam.

Again declining? That chart shows a continued growth year over year so to say it is declining again is a false statement for dramatic purposes.

Yes, there was a decline for August 2019 over August 2018 which is not good but in the same token we are assuming the worst and assuming the reasons because of one data point.

It is hard to find a month in the Steam Charts history where the peak and/or average players were less than the same month the year before. BTW, that is how business analysis looks at it. The difference between one month and the next are meaningless due to seasonal changes.

So, this one data point might be something but we do not know but I am sure many with expertise in the subject will disagree and claim the game is dying as has happened so many times over the past 5 years yet never came to fruition.

May, June, and July 2019 have a notably higher average and peak player number than the same months for 2018. So population is not declining as you are stating there. Only August shows a decline from 2018 to 2019.

Again, business analysis looks at a given month and compares that to the same month the year before to see if there is growth or a decline. What you are trying to compare only shows seasonal changes which are fairly meaningless.

The issue has nothing to do with the rig someone games on. It is well documented that there have been many issues that affected 100% of the ESO players that had to log into ESO via Steam. Some of these login blackouts have spanned well over 12 hours. It seems like you were lucky that you did not log in on the numorous affecte days.

while I'm not a "quester" that's what most of the population does and enjoys and could give two *** about nerfs. So I cant agree with you there.

I don't have problems. I did buy eso through the website though and then linked the game to steam later. But never have big problems in steam. It's nice having a eso steam badge and screenshot gallery. Plus my eso+ is all done through steam. Quite convenient.

The only very minor downside is sometimes patches break the launcher through steam for a short time. But even then im able to just run the eso exe to bypass.

Don't understand all the hate towards steam really.
