I love all the sheeple who are saying "just install the add-on and forget about it"

An add-on doesn't excuse the business practice that has been implemented here. I'm already an ESO+ subscriber, I hope they take a page from nearly every other subscription based business model today and remove the ad's, if I want something from the crown store, I will go there myself. Once a day on the first login, that's fine...I get that, but EVERY single time I log into a character? Come on.

Plastering the crown store ads in my face only makes me less inclined to purchase things from there at all because of the blatant greed they are displaying.

use this and just go play the game.

You are missing the point. You should not have to run an addon to get rid of a popup ad in game.

Yes, PC players have this option, which I have used.

I will... For the first time in my life, lobby on behalf of poor console players. They don't have this option.

So here's what happened: using No Thank You, I disabled the window and will never see another crown store ad again. Under the old system, the ad was non-intrusive enough that I left it enabled.

I doubt this is what ZOS intended.

You think repeatedly showing the same ad over and over thereby encouraging people to click out ASAP without even examining the content is a better strategy than having an ad pop up occasionally when new sales/features are announced?

I agree about the occasional popup. I didn't mind that at all. In fact, I welcomed it because that meant something new. I'd always go shopping and usually spend some crowns. However, this cinema-sized commercial in the middle of the screen on makes me mad and not want to buy ANYTHING from the crown store ever again. it's the same kind of money grubbing "I'm going to force you see what's here and you'll like it!" that LOTRO eventually went to. I didn't like it there either and left the game entirely.

It would be much more tolerable if they would allow me to turn it off and then on when I want to see what's up.

Very annoying...and no response from ZOS yet? Nice.

I get that this is a business, but having just purchased a $30+ Chapter, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth when I'm force fed a full screen ad for things that I already own. Just seems like shameless greed imo. As other's have said, I'm starting to question how much longer I can look past this blatant greed on a daily basis to continue playing a game that I really enjoy.

I'm an ESO+ subscriber and already pay you all $15 per month as it is, most subscription based business models of today will remove ads once you are a subscriber. I'd appreciate if ZOS took the same approach and stopped spamming us with advertisements on EVERY character login. Thanks.

They are very stubborn this way. When they get an idea they like, they stick to it. Like a pitbull with a bone. Like a captain to a sinking ship.

No, it does not. The addon makes it barely tolerable while I wait for my ESO Plus subscription to time out.

At the last it would be nice if it didn't spam things I already have...

    Like the new expansion...

If the crown store can manage to grey out things I have, so I know the in-game system is aware... then the ad screen could just not show slides of things I have...

Didn't they do something similar a few years ago ? Huge outcry and they said they would keep it to emails from then on.

My recollection may be hazy but I believe it was something like that.
So they raised the floor and lowered the ceiling. Except the ceiling has spikes in it now and the floor is also lava.

This is old school psychological draw in and force. This does not work anymore because of the overload of ads across the nets and now in games. It does not increase revenue except potentially for new people until they get overloaded. It actually causes anxiety and stress and animosity towards getting stuff from store over time.

I agree with those who feel the new billboard is counterproductive. I do spend crowns in the store and I do want to know about sales and new items. But the poor design of the new billboard quickly trained me to ALT as fast as possible when logging in, and then to install No Thank You. I did not even know that the Barbaric Beauty pack was available because I had already been trained to ignore/dismiss the billboard. The old crown store ad was superior in every way - in size, design, placement, relevance, and frequency.

I am aware that Daily Rewards will be attached to the billboard when this feature is released. How will those who have turned to No Thank You to streamline our login deal with it then?

No Thank You kills the window completely, you can't even open it for yourself (like if you want to grab the daily rewards). An other solution is to use an other addon, which prevents the announcement window to be opened when you log in, but leaves you to open it if you want to see it: http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info2009-HideLoginAnnouncement.html
Of course it means that you don't have to block the announcement window with No Thank You.

When a new dlc comes out and I get the collectors edition of it I still get pestered to buy it from their ad. I don't think this is ending if we complain about it... come on now, I'm a console player and we still experience this... now hearing the new chapter is doing this to pc users before we get to it really is not fun to see :/ I already preordered summerset... collectors edition to boot.

Here is a basic source for ads in general. It has relevance in this situation. The offset of course and the reason it likely does not shift is because of how many people ads contact. Out of those numbers a handful proportionally have huge disposable income so it is a win to some degree. However there is a scaled loss that erodes the consumer's view of the company displaying the ads. Most often someone with a large disposable income is not loyal for a long time and really does not commit to one thing as they have an abundance of choice. The long term loyalist is more likely to get turned off by being blasted by ads because it reminds them of money they potentially do not have and that they are more useful for their money not their loyalty.

I agree you should not but it is a solution as of now. I think they will likely shift the huge popup ad to something else over time but it is likely not a priority for them. I think the entire landscape of games is sad now with F2P + Cash shop being the dominant revenue generator.

It is true I am not sure why they do not understand blasting that ad that obviously does not check for the different tier of play (sub or not sub) is pretty bad design. Pretty sure it will eventually change. I myself just do not expect these companies to do much of anything else besides attempt to squeeze cash from me. I miss the days of games online being about communication with other people and earning things not cosmetic shows and money grabs.

I am however grateful that there are addons that allow for the elimination of these things.

My guess is that the analysis is long term. Remember, they have to drive new initiatives for monetizing the customer base. They can't just throw out the good ideas because the customer base is temporarily upset. Eventually, those people leave and are replaced by more willing participants in the exciting world of ESO monetization.

Funny, I used to click through the old crown store ads to see what's new.
Now I get rid of the ad as soon as the startup lag will let me, can't stand that intrusive mess taking up my whole screen.

    Will check out the addon.

But there's no money to be made by shoving an ad in my face on every single character I play throughout the day trying to get me to buy something I already own and couldn't possibly buy duplicate copies of even if I wanted to. And the fact that they lead with something I don't need means that I don't even know what else they are trying to sell me because the window is already closed and I'm on to wherever I left off in the actual game.

This is a multimillion dollar company, yet they apparently tried to save money and hired the cheapest ad director they could find. We complained about this huge eyesore on test, but they didn't get that message, either. I honesty have no idea who came up with this, or what they were thinking, but I can't see how this debacle is in any way profitable for ZOS. Somebody email the shareholders' board of directors and send them a link to this thread and the other similar ones. They probably aren't game players and have no idea this is even happening.

There is already two of them. No Thank You blocks the announcement window completely, so you won't even open it after the daily rewards come to the live servers (they will be available from that), and HideLoginAnnouncement prevents the window from showing up at login, but you can open it later if you want to do that.
