PTS Update 18 - Feedback Thread for Jewelry Crafting

ZOS mentioned they don't want to reduce the cost of gold jewelry, only make it less RNG dependant (By not having to rely on a weekend vendor or trial loot). But if that's the case, I don't see why they would need to introduce small pieces of upgrade materials, requiring you to refine 10 of them.

It already costs aproximately 50,000g to upgrade one blacksmithing item from purple to gold. A small tweak to the drop rates, and ZOS could easily achieve a 75,000-100,000 price for a bundle of 8 gold jewelry upgrade materials. I feel that would be far more reasonable.

Not sure if this is reported yet but there seems to be a problem where you get Enchanter Surveys from Jewelry Crafting Coffers . Here is a screenshot .

I used the gear from a template character and sent it to a newly created one to see how many rings and necklaces we have to deconstruct to get the skill line from 1 to 50.
The only inspiration bonus I used was the 20% boost from the tower constellation (30 CP required) and I only used purple CP 160 jewelry.

Here's the result: 333 items in total (222 rings and 111 necklaces)

That seems to be a reasonable amount and in line with the other crafting skills.

Were the IP gains capped at lower levels of the craft, as in (for example) blacksmithing?

I was able to make some little progress on my jewels crafting after getting the certification in Summerset. However, other than doing that quest to get certified, I found no raw metal at all. The only way I got some was by finding or stealing jewels and deconning them. Took a bit, but got enough to do one writ from the cert board:

    jcoffer.png

Did it while running the first main quest Queen's Decree, so I wasn't actively scrounging around. But it's certainly not like finding provisioning stuffs. It is quite grindy.

Using the crown store vouchers, I got all three base traits researched on both rings and necks. Those are easy because you can use old jewels for research. But haven't ground out new traits yet. Will try some more after finishing up some more of the psijic skill line (also quite grindy).

If EVERY writ reward bag has either a coffer or a resource map, AND if the coffers provide a large fraction of the resources needed to do a writ, then the situation will be similar to that of other equipment crafts, and it will be OK.

If only some of them do, OR if the coffers hold only a small fraction of the resources needed to do a writ, then the writs will be a bad investment, and players will become enraged as they figure out they've been scammed.

Farmed for over 2 hours in different starter and main areas--found maybe 4 nods. Deconstructed a lot of the jewelry that you get with the template character. Had enough material to make one ring, but not enough to improve it. Not thrilled at how ridiculously difficult it will be to get mats!

Only found one node in Summerset, so I went to a starter zone (Khenarthi's Roost) did a quick jaunt around and found about 15 nodes. I did have all of the "Keen Eye" skill points. This was about 10PM Eastern US time

The discovery of the station and cert process was fine. Just as almost everyone has said, the nodes are too scarce. I looked in Summerset and Dashaan, found just enough , ten tiny bits, to refine into one normal bit of usable material. I remember how hard it was to lvl enchanting at launch, and this has that same feel. Not fun, but I will likely slog through it . It may just take a very long time to feel anything approaching contentment w/this particular craft. I won't be doing it for any other reason than crafting is something I normally do anyway, so I will be adding this in. I don't imagine making any gold doing it, so it will be purely for the completion of the activity , (eventually), and any associated crafting titles. Not a very satisfying experience so far.

I went looking for materials on my usual crafting/treasure chest circuit in [redacted]. I got a fair selection of rings (platinum, unfortunately) to research and refine. Pewter dust was harder to come by.

I was able to complete the certification quest with no issues, though it seems a bit silly to not put certification for jewelry in the same place as other crafting certs. On the other hand, if materials are going to be this time-consuming to harvest, then perhaps placing the certifying authority far, far away is the correct call. I can mine for scraps all the live-long day, but I'm not going to be the one handling calls from frustrated and angry people with somewhat less patience.

Though it would be utterly hilarious if you dig my application out of the round file and I end up being the one who handles those calls.

Can any testers confirm what the voucher cost is for the jewelry crafting stations and the attunable jewelry crafting stations? And if it's confirmed that both will be able to be traded?

You can now obtain Jewelry Crafting Stations from Faustina Curio, the Achievement Mediator.

A normal Jewelry Crafting station costs 125 Vouchers and requires the "Jewelry Crafter" achievement.

An Attunable Jewelry Crafting Station costs 250 Vouchers, and requires the "Jewelry Crafter" achievement. Attunable Stations can be used at any Set Crafting location in the world to attain that location's special set properties.

I went out again last night on the PTS to try and harvest seams. I went to multiple areas and spent several hours looking for seams. I did find 9 seams within that time frame but that is not going to be nearly enough raw materials to level the craft and don't even get me started about how much raw materials we're going to need to get gold upgrades. Also, from a housing stand point, the slight chance there is to get the new housing resins are going to make crafting new housing furniture just excruciatingly painful for all concerned.

I also have to say I'm a little worried that, ZOS is going to see the crafter's response to the lack of raw jewelry nodes on the forums and think, "Oh, a few crafters had a problem with this" because there is not that much of an outcry (so far) on the forums. At least not compared to the enchanting debacle of what was it 2016 when they were going to make it so that you could ONLY buy potency runes from the vendor and would not be able to harvest them at all in the wild? That was a mess that would have gone live had the crafters not spoken up about it. We need more noise about this, I think, or ZOS will think this is not a "big deal". I'm here to tell you this is a big deal, ZOS. Please don't have jewelry nodes share the same resource site as ore nodes. This is just a bad idea and will cripple and make far too grindy crafter's ability to level this new craft.

I'd like to point out to, ZOS that statistically, not that many people for whatever reason, take the time to go on the PTS even when it's a new chapter (also, the anniversary event is going on right now). The number of people telling you that there are not enough jewelry nodes and that the nodes need to be separate from ore nodes is not a good representation of your crafting player base at all. Please, take that into consideration when you are viewing the response on the forums.

Seam nodes and ore nodes share their spawn locations. You need to farm ore and hope that the next time a node pops up at that same location it's a seam and not ore again.

It's really annoying and should be changed. Seams need to have their own spawn points.

Wow did that with 2 types of ores.one more rare than the other in one expansion. Problem is you harvest the common ore and then what..sit around waiting for a respawn and hope it's the rare one ? Or go on your farming route hoping that the rare one is there when you get back ? It was pretty horrible trying to farm and that rare ore was pretty pricy to buy.

That was every ore in World of Warcraft in the base game world and possibly The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King. They had a more common ore and a random spawn of the rare ore, but it worked out well enough.

I didn't find that economy bad at all though, unlike this grindy inflated crap economy in ESO, despite WoW having a completely global auction house available to everyone to make trading super easy. I could actually make some money selling there and afford things I wanted even though I didn't endgame raid or do dungeons really. I just was a solo quester.

This game could learn a lot from World of Warcraft, all of which isn't patented or copyrighted by WoW as they just copied it from older games and code anyway. It's like how every game in the world has elves. They're not copyrighted and patented.

To all those fearing about the rarity of jewelry nodes : don't forget we're on PTS. Hardly anybody farms on PTS (since it's pretty pointless), as a result nodes are less renewed and there's less turnover. There's a bias here.

Which will happen in live zones that aren't "the popular place" while the zones that are popular will be frustrating and angering as bots and other live people steal nodes from you.

    It will still suck.

So, no, I'm not someone worried about gold jewelry flooding the market and making those latter endeavors worthless.

    To each their own.

I don't play, and don't pay, to have a second job that costs me.
They could easily implement a way for you to have that option with customized personal settings, like the legendary edition of TES5 Skyrim had a difficulty setting that raised and lowered damage you did or received from enemies, that could affect drop chances for you or the amount of xp/inspiration it takes for you to rank it up.

People have always had ways to increase their own personal challenge level in every endeavor they have ever done since living in caves and wearing animal skins. Most of them have been "less intelligent" than the easier method that advanced the species, but that is their choice and natural selection sorted it out back then. These days, people are often making things harder for others as well as themselves and sadly natural selection doesn't apply and get rid of the "masochist".

So, we need to work against "harder and slower" and let the people who want that have an option that doesn't affect everyone else.

In other words, stop asking for everything to be made harder or slower for you and ask for a custom difficulty/grind slider for all of us that you can set to "make it hurt, master, please" while I and others can set it to "I just want FUN".

I sort of feel like, ZOS is saying to the crafting community you can't spell "FUN" without FU (if you know what I mean). :'(
We have waited so long for jewelry crafting. I just don't understand why they would be lazy like this and utilize ore nodes for the new jewelry nodes. It's just (imho) lazy on the Dev's part and not fair for this to be something we are paying for.

I'm someone who gets bored by content that comes too easily, and enjoys the challenge of striving to reach a goal. If that goal is handed over a silver platter, suddenly it doesn't seem as appealing. This will punish me, more so than the dedicated players who can put in hours and hours of time to farm and grind the style as I only have, at max, 2-2.5 hours a day to play. And, honestly, I think that's fine.

I have never had a choice in what gold jewelry I have access to. I'm reliant on The Golden's RNG to give me what I want, and even then, I can barely afford it as is. Just the hope that jewelry crafting brings is enough to keep me plugging away and out there searching for that next seam, or that next green ring from a dolmen to deconstruct. New players and those without Summerset will suddenly have a market for all their trash set, low level, blue and green rings that currently get sold to the npc merchants or simply left behind to despawn in chests and corpses around Tamriel.

I think the secondary markets for this will be incredible. Will it hurt the pockets of the impatient whales who want to be level 50 Jewelry Masters in a couple days? Sure, but it will benefit a much larger portion of the population who can profit from the raw mats and jewelry. And based on your feedback, which if I may say, may be a little preemptive since you've only had access for a little over 24 hours, this bullish (<---- Wall Street term, not disguised vulgarity) market will continue for quite some time as the grind appears to be real.

Just relax, take it as it comes, and don't expect everything in ESO to be instant gratification.

    Edit for grammatical errors

I understand your point and agree in principle. Time will tell whether it's too grindy or not. Plus, we all know that they loosened up on the difficulty of acquiring ruby mats and nirn after the first few months, so they may make some adjustments initially, prior to launch, or even after a few months. Wouldn't be surprised that the grind gets reduced further when it becomes a base game feature next year (making an assumption here, but it seems likely).

I know I'm in the minority here, but I was actually disappointed when they made leveling enchanting easier. I remember the days when the needle barely moved, but you were still able to keep up with your character level pretty easily.

That never happened unless you somehow only played by opening chests for less xp than fighting anything or used extra glyphs supplied by other people to level, a lot of glyphs.
Leveling is always fast in MMOs if you're actually playing the game. It always outstrips everything else.

I even took the time to stop and smell the roses a lot, taking about a year to get to level 50 for the first time, but I never had enchanting or any other profession keeping up with my level. I either had it far surpass it, like provisioning which had been changed to be easier, or way way way behind like enchanting and blacksmithing which took forever to raise by deconstructing items.
I just couldn't get enough items through normal play to level those crafts. Thankfully, I didn't need to as I could use quest and random drop gear to level just fine.

Now, don't even get me started on how fast you can level with a good farm and with double xp which doesn't affect inspiration gains.

This game is one of the most grindy I have ever played. It reminds me of those Asian F2P games like "Perfect World International". Now, the crown store is reminding me of games like that a lot more too.

So from the sounds of it, Jewelrycrafting is not being integrated into the game in the same manner as the other six crafts.

It sounds like it's better to just give up on our hopes of having fun with crafted jewelry altogether. I'll be selling off every item associated with Jewelcrafting that comes int my possession if it turns out this bad.

I really hope this is just due to bugs atm, or that ZOS is willing to make massive changes.

You want to have FUN playing ESO - shock, horror :/

I started playing ESO when it lost the compulsory subscription and I've seen it get steadily grindier, more divisive and less fun in _every_ major patch starting with IC - heavy siiiiigh...

I only started after it went F2P/B2P, but I am definitely seeing this. It's hard to catch up to everyone else, if not impossible with limited time items. They haven't even brought back limited time houses or housing items from the crown store yet.

I'm SUPER excited(/sarcasm if not obvious) for the new hard mode only skins and other rewards and the pvp exclusive cosmetics that are trying to get me to do something already considered a negative environment. That will be "like...just the most fun EVARRRRR".

So, one of the (few) main features of the Chapter is locked behind a grind, so it will be hard to actually get to use what we paid for.

Why am I buying this Chapter, again? A couple hours of main quest, a Trial, jewelry crafting, and a skill line?

That's just it. Why are we paying for something we aren't actually getting to use right away?
If Jewelrycrafting was a base game addition this would make sense, but it's "buy this so you can make jewelry" but we can't actually make anything as good or better than what we have until several months or more down the road....who is going to use this?

I don't even make gold gear because it's too expensive and my gold mats go toward master writs now(thanks for making it harder on me ZOS) because I need the storage items from there and want other things and am not rich enough to just buy gold mats.

I didn't buy Summerset for the jewelrycrafting, honestly. I'm likely to ignore it as "too much work for not enough benefit" as I currently do with potions because of their short term nature and cooldowns and tedious material grinding even though it is much better than jewelrycrafting.
I actually wanted spellcrafting with Summerset as I expected them to do with the Psijics, but I was sadly disappointed. I guess I'll have to wait for finally catering skills to my playstyle as the original game advertisements said "play how you want to play".

Jewelrycrafting is like a kick in the nuts.

I fully realise that everyone is different and wants different things from the games they play, some have more time to play than others, while some ignore some aspects of games to only focus on the things they enjoy, as they should do. All I can see is MMO's slowly evolving away from what they once were, every one wants it now its all just become a grind. To me its about evolving my character creating his or her story within the game world and that takes time, in some cases a lot of time.

I have spent numerous hours harvesting nodes to find out the spawn rates and the best places to farm what I need and yes it is going to take quite sometime to level JC let alone actually craft something and level its quality, but its all part of the journey. If its not part of a journey and something that you find enjoyable perhaps MMO's are not for you.

Make MMO's great again. that is where I will be in 2 years time for those who may know who coined that phrase.

As for the Jewelry Grind, Need I say more, but it is long overdue been wanting for this since launch,

I am ok with needing to have 10 dust to refine into the metals to make jewelry items, just like blacksmithing clothing and woodworking just wish there were more NODES to get

    Pewter: Lv. 1-25
    Copper: Lv. 26-50
    Silver: CP 10-60
    Electrum: CP 70-140
    Platinum: CP 150-160

but, why do we need 10 Plating Grains to make one Plating, so in order to even improve one piece of jewelry from purple to gold, I would need to refine 200 Chromium Grains to make enough Chromium Plating to make one piece of jewelry gold that's insane, not to mention finding enough to even make it green blue and purple first

Terne: Improves from White to Green.
Iridium: Improves from Green to Blue.
Zircon: Improves from Blue to Purple.
Chromium: Improves from Purple to Gold

    and then getting trait stones:
(just using the infused trait for example)
then I have to get 10, Pulverized Aurbic Amber to make Aurbic Amber
I need 30 Pulverized Aurbic Amber to get 3 trait stones

ZOS please fix this so it is not so much of a grind to make jewelry items something that a lot of us that have wanted since launch.

My main issue so far is with the nodes. As many others have said, there needs to be more seams spawning. In an hour, I found exactly ONE node and out of that I got 4 Platinum. In that same amount of time I was able to get 75 Heartwood. Also they need to glow more. In spite of having 3/3 Keen eye, I was hardly able to see the seam. I had to look really close as it blended in with the other rocks. It really needs to glow more.

So far I don't really see the point in spending all my time grinding out this craft. It is just to time consuming right now. I will probably give it a pass unless something changes.

What is gonna get me ticked is not that this craft line seems so grindy, but the fact that they will come up with something to make it super easy once I get it mastered, just like they did with enchanting way back when.

I like the idea that a crafter can put time and effort into something and be able to do something special in the game that others can't do, just like others do with PvP or Trials. I will never do those two things and I don't deserve the benefits from them since I don't. Sadly, I know where this will wind up in the grand scheme of things.

    General Feedback:

I spent the summer of '95 working for this old German dude as a jewelers apprentice. We used old methods, made our own alloys from coins and the whole bit. We also did sculpture in pitch using a ball hammer and chasing tools. Please tell whoever designed the bench that I love it. The picks, the files, the curve on the bench, all of it. It's something I hadn't thought about in a while and seeing the bench was a blast.
