    Necrosis is a real word.

    Potency is a real word.

Combine Necro with Potency and you get Necro-Potency.

Drop the Y, replace it with an E.

    Necro-Potence.

Two real words combined to create a new fake word: Necropotence.

I think the pronunciation becomes fairly obvious if you don't try to overthink it.

No more obvious then when you take a real word like omni and a real word like potence and combine the two. The pronounciation is fairly obvious to an english speaker. Om-ni-po-tense, not omni-potence.

If it was an actual marriage of 2 words it would be necro-potency, hyphen included.

The prefix is necro meaning of death or corpse. And the suffix is potens which referes to potent. Just as in omni (meaning all or all encompasing) and potens refering to potent.

    Omnipotence
    Necropotence

Ah... I see, the OP isn't an English speaker!

    I guess that makes sense.

It is my native language to be sure. Are you saying the points i made in that last post are inaccurate or false?.

I didn't see a point actually. You just waxed intellectual about how omnipotence and necropotence are similar because they are both combinations of two different root words to create a new word.

And, you prefaced it by saying "it's only obvious to English speakers".

To which I say, "yeah, and...?"

(Do you really break down your words syllable by syllable when you speak? Nobody pronounces "Omni" as "Om-ni" unless they have a speech impediment.)

First of all not sure where your facetiousness is stemming from. Second i broke it down in that way just as numerous others have in this thread to help visualize the pronounciation.

I did not say it was obvious only to english speakers. I said it would be fairly obvious to english speakers because the word is formed by english phonetics and exists within the english client of the game. And if English isnt your native language than its not outside the realm of possibility that your pronounciation may be different. I guess i could have worded it more clearly like "it should be fairly obvious to those whos native language is english".

The point was that both words are formed / structured in the same way and share the same suffix so i feel they would be pronounced in the same manner.

Oh, you are the life of the party, aren't you? Ok, let's go back to your original post. You want people to stop saying necropotence as Necro-potence.

You want to convince people to say nec-raw-po-tence because the word "crop" is in the middle of it.

First of all, that's just a silly thing to nit-pick. Second of all, you're trying to tell everyone to stop saying the word in a very normal way and instead pronounce it in the weirdest possible way.

I honestly thought your thread was just a joke the first time I read it.

The most difficult word in Elder Scrolls lore?

    It's not Nchuleftingth.
    It's not Ashalmimilkala.
    It't not even Arkngthunch-Sturdumz.

    It's Necropotence, apparently.

We need to get our loremaster Schick in here for a pronounciation guide.

(But as a non-native speaker, I'd say the OP is correct. It's pronounced like omnipotence.)

Or people that say Alisia when it's ALESS-ia
    Or people that say Faaaaaar-gyl when it's Fare-(bus fare)-gyl

    :expressionless::expressionless::expressionless:

Probably only British or American speaking people as they tend to swallow and ignore many sillibles. In my language we don't - we pronounce every sillible correctly as spelled. Brightest examples always come to mind is: Salmon - Sammon. Iron - Ion.

    Regarding Faregyl, i'd argue that it's actually Far-(distance "far")-egyl. It's not Feregyl, that's just a "english'ized" (yes i just made that up :P) version.
Names in these fantasy games are not British or American English names so it should be pronounced more like spelled, rather than adding a englification (just made that up too xD) and their grammars/pronounciations to it.

I just like to point out 1 fact. Necropotence isn't even a real word, at least not defined by any real dictionary, British or American. So you could argue till the cows come home, but it would be as pointless as arguing about 'the purpose of meaning'.
