Stop saying necro-potence

In English, syllable emphasis is prescriptive rather than descriptive. There are no prescribed "rules" for this. In this case there are plenty of examples supporting the argument for either pronunciation, so either is acceptable until one becomes standard through regular usage. Here's how I think about it:

Necro-potence does a better job of conveying the actual meaning of the word, which strikes me as being the entire point of language. Ne-CRAW-potence mispronounces both of the roots of the word so it sounds like you're emphasizing "CROP" as if the word meant something about the potency of dead cornfields. I tend to favor the way that makes it easier/quicker for people to understand, and which respects the etymology of the word, so I prefer necro-potence.

On the other hand, Ne-CRAW-potence is consistent with its closest relative, omnipotence.

On the other other hand, there aren't many examples of words ending in "potence" with a two-syllable prefix, so it's too limited of a sample size to call it a rule or even a tendency. And omnipotence doesn't alter the pronounciation of "omni" in the same way that "ne-CRAW-potence" ruins "necro" so you can easily make a case for why necropotence should be treated differently from omnipotence.

In short, I'm on team necro-potence but I don't deny the legitimacy of ne-CRAW-potence as a viable option for different reasons. English has room under its tent for all of us.

tl;dr: they're both fine but we all can feel free to continue judging each other's poor taste as we see fit.

I realize that until zos or an npc in game clarifies this, the matter is up for debate and this post is my opinion.

    Fixed that for you OP.

But until that time comes would it not be appropriate to apply standard English rules to the word even though its not technically a real word. I dont see how it would specifically disobey the same rules that apply to a word like omnipotence. And that is most def. not pronounced as two seperate words.

That is an excellent question. I'll get back to you as soon as I am done buying this Drew Wax.

It certainly seems to be spelled as "Necropotence".

Which is broken down into "Necro" and "potence".

Why are you trying to change the O in "Necro" to an A?

You need to stop saying "Necrapotence". It's wrong and I won't stand for it!

So do you pronounce "necropolis" as "NEH-kro-PO-lis"? Because, spoiler alert, that's wrong.

No one is trying to change the O in "necro" to an A. It's the same O as in the word "college."

Do you pronounce it "Neh-CRAW-man-sir" or "I-CAN'T-take-A-JOKE"?

What is the Oxford preferred pronunciation for that word...? I'm not sure.

Necromancer is a neologism not formed in emulation of any preexisting classical word. I again feel the need to point out that "necropotence" is even more made up, so attempts to justify any pronunciation based on Latin phonetics (whence the pronunciations of words like necropolis) are doomed to failure.

And that's precisely my point. It truly does not matter which way you choose to pronounce "necropotence" because it's a fake word. There's no need to justify your pronunciation at all, and certainly no need to justify it with nonsense.

I don't know which word you're asking about in your last question, but there is only one English pronunciation for each of "necromancer" and "necropolis." There are three plurals of necropolis, based on Greek, Latin, and standard English rules respectively, so that's fun.

People pronounce words according to their regional dialect. No amount of coaching from you will get them to change.

Mainly because if they suddenly start pronouncing words differently their friends will have a harder time understanding them, or make fun of them for deviating from the norm.
