Just to lighten the mood... I am sensing a mixed message here.

Just logged in for the first time since this patch. We really could do without the people bending down and rummaging through a chest looking for goodies on the screen. To me, that takes an already shady system down ever further by putting it in people's faces even if they don't want to join in.

    Edit: Still cannot spell

Digging in inventory, or visiting the Crown Store, has been doing certain idle animations for quite a while. I think they introduced the Crown Store chest browsing in One Tamriel. Is there a special "communing with Pacrooti" idle animation, now?

Chest browse anim I think is just for browsing the store. There is actually a new animation I saw where someone was suffling cards in their hand, they were next to me so I could see the tiny cards were indeed extremely detailed and looked alot like the crate cards I saw dealed by the scheaming Pacrooti when testing on PTS. A very nice looking animation in itself it was, suffling little cards..

Some generalised assumptions and based on old PTS info, but assuming you have everything that it currently available in Crown Store it'd take you anywhere between $110 and $200 per atronach mount assuming you weren't lucky to get one from gambling.

That means after spending $100s on every cosmetic, costume and other item in the Crown Store you'd still need to fork out that much more at the very most for each of the 6-9 top tier items, or roughly $1500-$2000 per season, or per season of the whale.

Let the good times roll... :|

With the new features of gem conversion and apparent higher drop rate, this is pretty much debunked now.

Seems that you'd be able to get an atronach with poor RNG and no prior purchases with as little as $100

Then the 2 people I know that did this are very unlucky. With little to nothing purchased from the gem stor before they were both at 150 dollars spent before they had a random Astro mount drop. Neither of them wanted the one they had drop. So another 40'dollars was enough to get them there gem wise.

It was strange watching 2 people side by side getting almost exactly the same rewards.

This is pretty much averaged out though. Some people have gotten 3-4 mounts from 5-6000 crowns, others have spent double that amount (or triple for Deltia) without anything. For such a large sample size with such poor measurement tools, a generalisation or average is always to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Oh i agree. Rng is rng and it will be different for different people. I was posting more just because of the line that you would be able to get a storm atro for as little as 100.

With 2 direct examples of 2 people with not a lot purchased and going for a specific mount and not being able to do it until around 190 dollars spent for both, i just wanted to put it out there.

So people were aware that 100 dollars would in no way guarantee the apex mount you want.

As little as $100?. I must be old but I don't consider $100 to be a little price to own some coloured pixels on a screen. It is a lot of money for a virtual item which will vanish the day they turn the servers off. Could I afford $100 - yes. Would I pay that for a mount - hell no. Whole games cost $40-50!

Par for the course in an online game. Years of annual subscriptions to a game results in the same thing. Only by playing F2P games, and then steadfastly refusing to spend a dime in their store, can one escape this fate.

Only when compared to my previous guesstimate of up to $200.

Both are ridiculously expensive, but then there's people out there with that kind of disposable income to spend on a game. Beyond that it's getting into some ridiculously deep, complicated and off-topic territory.

ZOS, change the title of this thread if this is going to be the formal feedback for crown crates and make it a sticky, stop closing thread's when people are legitimately trying to give feedback. Seems like you're trying to silence the masses that think this new feature is a scam

That's rather my objection to the gambling boxes to begin with. Investment is not directly correlated with reward, but reward is instead distributed randomly among participants. I don't care that some people get really lucky when there are other people that aren't getting what they're after. It's the inherently exploitative facet of gambling systems, and why direct purchase is the only ethical system.

I do want to add one thing that I forgot, ZOS should remove certain things like racial/gender styles that you do not meet the requirements for. Example would be the Argonian style well none of my characters are a lizard and I only play a Redguard and a Brenton so I should receive anything that is related to that style; other than that I believe it's fine.

We're looking into removing race-specific items in future Crown Crate seasons.

Go lizard, or go home!

Accessory junk is why I don't like ZOS bundles, and Crates are bundles. At least consumables can be traded in, unlike the Black Fredas bundle.

    That's pretty good news.

I just wish they had listened to this piece of feedback when the crates were being tested. You know, before people spent their actual money on them.

Because this is something that we asked for over and over again.

Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

True but also a lot of people are getting everything they want. Its RNG, they knew they were paying for it.
I have yet to see anyone post about things that are P2W or better than what is in game.

Hopefully ZOS makes tons of money and pumps it right back into the game. Only time will tell... I am just not making any knee jerk reactions at this time.

I am not for the crates but if they do not "harm" or "take us down the side of evil" then let them be what they are now. We will see.

P2W should not be the bar, when as customers did we set the bar so low?

They (crates) exploit/trick people into spending more money on items than they otherwise would. In my book they've crossed that line already.

It's no wonder ZOS is not worried about losing subs or loyal players. They have removed the ceiling to the amount of money players can dump into this game, and players are dumping.

Posts about buying 30, 40 or more crates, and posts about spending $100, $200 or more. The subs and regular crown store purchases and the box sales are a pittance compared to the money players are dumping into these crates.

Going forward I can't help but wonder what the motivation will be for spending thousands of development hours on a new expansion and charging an outright price for it, when they can spend a tiny fraction of the development time on more crown crate items and make more money.

I worry about our hobby. Content driven profits are being replaced with shady, exploitive games of chance. It seems MMOs are becoming less about what players can do in game, and more about how much players are spending in the store.
