Creating my toon how I want depends on being able to buy certain outfits, mounts and accessories to fit certain events. A lot of these items are going to be in crates now. So I have to change the way I play.
Actually, if you read the webiste you will see that the crown store show case is already up and none of those itens are inside the Crown Crates.
Yeah, there are some exclusives mounts and mementos inside the crown crates but I think that is very childish and shallow to say "I have to change the way I play" because a small amount of itens are purchaseable via crown crates. You can still buy them, but you will need to buy the crown crates and praise the RNG overlords.
There is a ton of exclusive, or at least not available through other means, stuff in the current Crown Crates. Stuff I would buy in a heartbeat if they were not in a Crown Crate. In the past, buying this stuff is what has driven me to keep Crowns handy, and now they are locked in something I won't buy. I have a ton of Crowns and nothing to spend them on. Sad.I will say that the presentation is pretty darn sweet.
Oh, yeah. Spared no expense.

If they came out and told us that they were putting X amount of money back into the game then I'd gladly change my tune and I'd buy crates in a heartbeat, the mounts are awesome as hell. Been burned too many times in other games when you buy this crap and you realize that the money being made is NOT going back into the game.
It's one thing to support a game, another to just give someone at the top of the pyramid money. One creates a long lasting enjoyable game with good content and the other is...well...see the other games.

Honestly this is why they wont ever tell anyone the drop rates. Not to be so negative as to say this is a plan of some sort. But if they never tell you the drop rates they can change them at will. Yeah I know what you mean. I've been waiting for them to release the Red Pit Wolf Mount to the Crown Store. Seeing it as a Crown Crate exclusive has pissed me off to no end. I'll never buy a Crown Crate, and my sub is cancelled, never to be renewed. My RNG has always been really bad in this game, so not gonna play with real money for only a chance to get something.Far too many characters to list any more.4 -

Well even though i did not get a Storm Mount with my 23 crates I still think i did alright... 2 mounts, a few pets, lots of costumes and a couple momentos. In fact my wife seems quite pleased with the new costumes.
The only complaint i have is that we should be able to pick and choose what we want converted over to crown gems.... I really did not want another Guar mount or the stuff that is race bound?0 -

Well, it's a huge money making machine.
You need 400 crown gems to buy one of these mounts manually.
So you need to come across 80 costumes or mounts that you already posses (because you only get 5 gems per costume etc.)
IF you are lucky, you "only" need to spend 32 000 crowns until you have 400 gems. But that's unrealistic, because I rarely received costumes or mounts in the crates, you usually get consumables and experience scrolls or riding lessons.

Consider the "wait and see" attitude for a minute. What is it for the people in charge of a company?
It is quiet acceptance.
Better to let them know exactly what we don't want them to do in advance. If we ignore the pattern and stay quiet, waiting to see if they finish following it, it will be too late when they get to the point that we don't want them to get to. And then, letting them know we don't like it will do nothing, because it will be too late to change anything. They have three regular sources of income at the moment - subscriptions (which provide financial security), crown store (which if given a decent and regular amount of stock would be a nice earner) and box sales. They're not on skid row here, they're just being greedy.
That is exactly nail on head, the only places this sort of thing happens is in casinos and in video games. I don't go to the grocery store and buy a gamble bag of food, I don't go to the clothes store and buy a gamble bag of clothes, I don't know why some people are OK with this. This is ESO, not Vegas.

Looking forward to seeing people on the new mounts because that means they are generating revenue. I will throw some crowns at the crates to see what all the fuss is about, but I have the ability to control my impulses and will stop if I don't see the benefit to me personally.
On the other hand, if they stop producing good content on a regular basis (which they haven't yet) or stop producing items to be purchased directly from the crown store that are worthwhile (which they haven't yet) then I will be concerned.
Good luck to everyone trying them and to anyone not... for financial or any other reason... best wishes, try and relax. You aren't going to stop it from happening, It is a done deal. Bashing or shaming people for buying crates isn't going to get you anywhere and neither is clenched fist raging at your monitor while slamming your forehead on the keyboard trying to convince people to abstain.
It's only a game... one I have also played non-stop since open Beta and plan to continue to play until I decide otherwise.

I do know that on the PTS I spent a fictional $500 and only got 1 mount. They took our feedback onboard, and said they would up the drop-rate by "a bit".
Sorry if I am not rushing out all excited about this. Maybe I will be proven wrong. But I am not going to be testing it on live.
$500 is more than a car payment. In my region, there are mortgage payments cheaper than that.

I agree with you. But you can keep saying no, even after the crates drop, never buy one... and have a few hundred or thousand people that agree with you.. on the other hand, you have few hundred or thousand on the other side that love them, see no harm and it balances itself out.
I agree that many of us, even myself included, are not fans of them, but I am also not the type to drop them right away without seeing how it plays out. Consider the "wait and see" attitude for a minute. What is it for the people in charge of a company?

Better to let them know exactly what we don't want them to do in advance. If we ignore the pattern and stay quiet, waiting to see if they finish following it, it will be too late when they get to the point that we don't want them to get to. And then, letting them know we don't like it will do nothing, because it will be too late to change anything. I'm sure you wouldn't like that, would you?
I agree with you. But you can keep saying no, even after the crates drop, never buy one... and have a few hundred or thousand people that agree with you.. on the other hand, you have few hundred or thousand on the other side that love them, see no harm and it balances itself out.
I agree that many of us, even myself included, are not fans of them, but I am also not the type to drop them right away without seeing how it plays out. I am all for saying no to crates, for saying and even showing reasons for it.... but there is another side to the player base and to this coin... only one side will turn up.
I don't mind people enjoying them, I just don't want people to encourage them

If they came out and told us that they were putting X amount of money back into the game then I'd gladly change my tune and I'd buy crates in a heartbeat, the mounts are awesome as hell. Been burned too many times in other games when you buy this crap and you realize that the money being made is NOT going back into the game.
It's one thing to support a game, another to just give someone at the top of the pyramid money. One creates a long lasting enjoyable game with good content and the other is...well...see the other games.
Hopefully its the good side, maybe they show us all they are different and it actually works. Well enjoying will equal encouraging.. Just like you standing up against them and trying to show the possible negative effects these can cause could change a player not too..

Im not even willing to say Zos is making a killing on this yet. There are a ton of people that had crowns stacked up from subs or sales. Those are crowns already paid for. No new money coming into the system. If a week from now you still see crowds of people buying them. Or perhaps the next new crate cycle. ✭✭✭✭✭Yeah I know what you mean. I've been waiting for them to release the Red Pit Wolf Mount to the Crown Store. Seeing it as a Crown Crate exclusive has pissed me off to no end. I'll never buy a Crown Crate, and my sub is cancelled, never to be renewed. My RNG has always been really bad in this game, so not gonna play with real money for only a chance to get something.
I won't drop my subscription over Crown Crates. That is not why I subscribe. I subscribe because the money spent is worth what I am getting from it. Crown Crates have nothing to do with it.
That said, I am not as willing as @GrumpyMuffin to stand on the sidelines. I can do that for a while, but only for a while. If it starts to gnaw away at my enjoyment, either due to haves vs have-nots, or because these Storm Atronach things are just annoying when viewed in the game, then the subscription cost becomes more difficult to justify.
I was never a fan of the flashy mounts in WoW, and the fact that one person could hide a quest giver with their big huge flying mount was very annoying. In the end, this contributed to me leaving that game. So far, annoying mounts have not been a problem in ESO, but this is mainly because ESO did not have a vast array of annoying mounts.
From what I see in the drop rate thread, it looks like they really are allowing those Apex mounts to drop a lot. I figure this is an introductory offer and they will "tune" (bug fix) the drop rate, after a bit. Still, it will mean a lot of visually annoying mounts in the game.XBox EU/NA:@ElsonsoJannus
