Well... to be fair they did say "rare and retired items" were possible to get through crown crates.. no one would buy them if you simply get a load of rough oak for 400 crowns.

Sure, but it's still a decision you make on your own, not under duress. Want the chance of a rare item? Play the lucky dip game. Don't want to lose all your money? Don't play it! It is possible to walk into a casino, spend $5 on the slot machines and walk out $5 poorer with nothing lost but that. Put some limits on yourself and the gambling game is fine. The onus is on the player to have a little self control, not the casino.
Precisely scummy indeed, and here i thought the 4k crowns I paid towards the special blue senche was overpriced. Still buying a mount flatout would be far better than locking what otherwise would be relatively cheap mounts, pets, costumes behind an rng pay wall.FLuFFyxMuFFiN wrote: »DigitalShibby wrote: »Nothing wrong with crown crates as long as the items inside are bound to your account and cannot be traded or sold, but simply used exclusively by the player who purchased it. Yeah but people will argue that restricting certain pets and mounts to the crates is a bit scummy on ZOS's part and will eventually lead to them putting most of the new mounts and pets into the crates as the only way to get them. Also when they were first announced they had an XP scroll better than the craftable xp pots in the game which is why they added that new xp pot to craft.

Here's some food for thought: who controls the chances to obtain those exclusive items from the Crates?
The Crown Crates are shady at best, theft at worst. And ZOS is still trying to make them more acceptable by not releasing them right away and by throwing us a bone: the new XP Pots that are as good as the ones from the Crates.
Ppl will buy them, and get robbed more than likely while ZOS is gonna count the € and $ they make from them

I've been trying to find the quote from the PTS forum and not had any luck as yet, but it was mentioned on the PTS forums quite a while ago in a statement that if I remember correctly said they would not be testing them any further on PTS, they had gathered all the info they required, they were also looking into reworking 'some' of the contents due to player response and any further fine tuning would be done after they are live.
Well, their 'reworking of some of the contents' was at the time of the discovery of the Crown Crate XP scrolls and we already know now, their answer to those was to introduce into the live game the Mythic ambrosia recipes. So to me it seems obvious their goals concerning Crown Crates are pretty much set and to try and make them more acceptable in the game they are changing items in the game instead of changing the Crate contents.
Sorry, its no suprise , seen it all before, the very same strategies and also silence in other games I have played who coincidentally at the time employed the same person ZoS has recently, its for me Deja-vu and sad thing is these were the reasons I left those other games.
Personally and looking at it from a business point of view Crates will be here before Xmas, I expect early December, it is the most profitable time of year for these kind of items to be available and I doubt very much a company would miss such a big opportunity for a big influx of revenue for zero outlay, which is what the Crates are all about.

Well due to your knowledge and given your experiences with other games you have played that implemented this same garbo. What are your thoughts on their (reworking of some of the contents)?

Its already changed so many times since they were first announced as 'Purely Cosmetic' (just like they were also advertised in other games), they also said they would contain random Consumables that were already available in game.
There is a link on Reddit to a video of their announcement, and already they are still not live yet so much as been changed (contrary to what they originally stated), all I can say is wait till there in the game and keep an eye out for more 'special' Crown Crate consumables and at the same time the in game equivalents seem to become rare.
It does not matter what they do, what they say they are going to do, seen and heard it all before, I know exactly where these are heading in the end and I'm sure there are many other players on the forums who know and have experience if this too.
I will have to check that video out for sure. Thank you for your feedback btw. These(special) consumables you mention, do you think, maybe perhaps would you be alluding to anything p2w. Like putting tempers and such in these crates?

All I can say, is think of it from their point of view, they said at first it would be mounts and rare pets etc, cosmetics, but things like those are, for most, one time purchases.
If you want people to keep buying a box of items you have to put in it items that they want or items that they need to progress.... so yeah once they are in the game, its pretty much fair game for anything to 'appear' in the crates, ALL they have to do is say there is an equivalent in the game, whether anybody actually ever see's this 'equivalent' is another matter, THEY say it is there
I am not saying it is going to go this way, but they are laying the foundations to make it very possible and very easy to do.
