seriously, im not a troll. (check my posts) but do you have any confirmed details n how they will work (from ZOS) ? Or is everyone just guessing and crying Armageddon.

From what ive just read, theya re posting details tomorrow so I’ll hold off on stocking up on tins of beans for a day or two

Unless they were changed drastically from how they were on PTS, which I highly doubt, we know exactly how they work.

We'll be releasing Crown Crates later this week, and will be publishing an article on our website tomorrow with all the details.

I am saddened that you are going ahead with this horrible practice. I had hoped for better. Oh well.

I won't be wasting money on them.

Not that anyone should care, because when I say I would find them "sorta okay-ish", it really only means I wouldn't complain about them anymore, not that this change would make me want to buy them. Because I don't think there is anything ZOS can really do to make me buy RNG boxes.

      ^ This. ^

On the plus side, I will get to see the mounts ridden by the suckers who buy into this crap. I love more variety. Like my approach to fireworks - why buy them when I can watch someone else's? :)

I need to clarify something. Just because I'm here does not mean I'm still playing. I stopped playing a while ago and it's been uninstalled since.

I post here because I care, believe it or not. I care about the community I still feel apart of even though I no longer play. We share a love of TES and wanting to see it succeed.

I enjoyed RP and PVP. Both have been dying in ESO for a while. Now I can't even mould my character into who I want her to be because I can't choose what I want her to be or look. I feel like my character now has lost her uniqueness and replayability.

I said earlier in the thread that I will see what is said about the crates and how they go down. If things are relatively "ok" then, sure, I'll play again. But I'll probably start a new toon on the PC version rather than pick up my hard-worked character.

Whether I leave, stay, keep coming back, complain etc. - I have every right to do so. Certain people (trolls) here need to stay out of my business. If you just came in this thread to put people down, be rude or immature then please leave until you learn how to behave socially.

Oh and for the record - this is a public forum. I can quit ESO and stay here as long as I like. I have friends here I legitimately care about so you won't get rid of me. As I said though, I don't know yet whether I'll be playing or not next year nor do I know for how long each time. That's up to me

Ok guys. So what do we have here:

      1) Last Zone (Gold Coast, Dark Brotherhood) was introduced on PC 6-7 month ago. Next Update is Housing without DLC, probably January (?) so the gap beetween new zones will be almost a year.
      2) Last ESO Live show was in August.
      3) Almost no news and communications from devs.
      4) CROWN CRATES are here.

So the new era began? People are talking about no content in future because of crates, but in fact we don't have it right now.

P.S. Yeah, i know, Shadows of the Hist. What a joke to call this a DLC.
P.S.S. I believe we've got almost everything what startet to be developed even before game release. And now we will have big problems with new contant, especially if they focus on crates.

Don't shoot the messenger everyone. However, I will not hide my disappointment. I'll definitely be slower to buy the DLC packs and will be much more hesitant to buy crowns from here on out. I may max level my main and call it a day with ESO.

If this goes the way of, well, every other game ever to implement RNG crates, I'm sure ZOS will be quite happy with the initial uptick of money spent. They'll then cram more exclusive items into crates. Substantive content development will taper off. The playerbase will start to shrink. Then the dev team will shrink in order to keep the profit margins looking nice. The game will sort of just survive for several years, surviving on a drip feed of hollow content updates and money from whatever is jammed into the crates each month.

If, by some miracle, that does not happen and this money goes towards more meaningful content for ESO, then I will be pleasantly surprised. Like, eat my freaking hat surprised. The problem with this outcome, is that shareholders and big business types don't care if the game suffers, as long as they make a tidy profit. And, more often than not these days, those are the types that make the pertinent decisions.

If the rumors are true that a certain individual is responsible for this "feature," and that this is the same individual that added a similar "feature" to other MMO's, and if for some reason that individual is reading these forums, to you I say this: Congratulations, you are potentially contributing to the slow decline of something in which many people put years of time and effort and energy and passion, and you make me ashamed to be an aspiring member of this industry.

Yeah I admit I will be buying a few crates every now and again. If people wanna view me as a "sucker" that's fine because what I do with my money is my own business and if that makes them upset then that is their problem. I bet there will be some "suckers" who will get one of the Atronach mounts within their first few crates.

Its a sad day to finally have the Crates confirmed for live, But in reality we all knew it was coming, it was just a matter of time.
Now its the waiting game for the inevitable 'special' Crown Crate P2W items, b'cos they are coming, its just a matter of time.

When you going to tell us when yall are going f2p? Like a day before that happens too? Look, I haven't had this much fun playing an MMO since vanilla WOW. I love this game as should be evident of mine and my wife's money we spend on the crown store per month. To have these stupid ass crates added here is a f'ing insult. Either your stupid ass execs at the top want more money in their pockets now because they don't care where this game is in a year (unlike myself and a plethora of others) or this game is failing financially and it's a last ditch effort for f2p. Can we get a comment on WHY these things are being added?

I agree that there is a misdirection here. It is not people's fault that they want to buy these, they are designed to make you want to buy them. And unless you have experience with this kind of things in other MMOs, of course it is hard to understand what the issue is, and why it affects people who refuse to buy them as much as it affects people who do buy them.

I bet a lot of people don't even know about the lady who was hired to do this work, and her history in other MMOs, and how she is specialized in F2P transition strategies.

No one should be called a "sucker" or an "idiot" for being unaware of these. Nobody is born with experience, and it is not like this information is readily accessed by everybody. I'm not saying that's the case with everybody that is pro-crates, too. There are always the players who know what will happen but don't care, because they don't plan to keep playing ESO for much longer anyway and whether it goes F2P next year or not doesn't make a difference for them because it is just another game and they will already be in their next MMO by then. And, of course, there are also those who saw this happening before to other MMOs, but still think ESO can be the one MMO that will be fine despite having the same person doing the same thing that was done in other MMOs. I've been on that later category for three MMOs before I lost hope. Always saying "maybe it will be different this time".

And on the good side as more and more of the cosmetics make it into the crown boxes and there is less to buy outright in the store. You will have even more extra crowns to use as a chance to get potions!

I'll be trying them out. See what they came up with. And if I don't like them, I won't buy them.

I removed that what could be perceived as an insult from what you said. I don't have to buy them to know they are not what I want.

      1. Gambling. This is a huge issue for some, but for me it is just a turn off. I simply like to buy things, and I want as little between my credit card and the product as is possible. If it gets too complicated, and Gems and RNG do that, I am simply blind to them.
      2. This is all cosmetic. For now. I can resist the urge to buy limited time items, and stuff I don't have a use for, so there is absolutely nothing they could put in them that would change #1. Less stuff to buy = less need to buy = need fewer Crowns. This is a win for me.
      3. RNG Boxes are a disease. This is my big issue. I won't be buying them, but if they are too ignored, or too successful, they will change. They don't sell P2W stuff in them, and the lure of Crown Crate revenue could change that at any moment. This is the foot in the door, and we have only The Moral Conviction of ZOS to keep it that way. That, plus a.few bucks, will buy you a small coffee at Starbucks.

As time has progressed, I have changed interest in some store items. Things I purchased that I would never ourchase again, and things I let go that I would now consider. I would buy them outright, were they in the store, but if they are in Crown Crates, they are not worth the effort.

I am not the Whale they are looking for. I do own a lot of Crowns, and now that Crown Crates are out, I am set for life. I expect that I will never again need to buy Crowns. I am a big spender from an era gone by, in this game.
      Woeler wrote: »
Curious to see what they changed.

My guess is that most changes will be cosmetic, rather than substantial. The goal, whether they say it or not, is to get people to buy them. Whatever they do will be done to that end, to get people to buy them. They will go just far enough to do that, without risking too much revenue. Crown Gem exchange will be the big thing, and they may have to put more exclusives into the Crates to compensate. If people collect too many Gems, the need to buy Crates is reduced. It is a delicate balance, and one I expect will be changing over the coming months.

Or "who". And I think we all know who it might be...
Who was it? I would said it is more a "what". Easy answer: Money!

I'll only accept the Crown Crates in the event they translate to more high-quality DLC, but since ZOS is dead silent on what hat may be... I dunno.

The "I'm on the moral high ground" feeling is strong in this topic.

I'll be trying them out. See what they came up with. And if I don't like them, I won't buy them. like a normal, non-whiney person.

You are so great! Now after we get this, I would like to see your opinion, if there where the best gear in this boxes. Who would be the whiney person after this?... You fortget as always, that not everyone plays the game like the famouse animals... other people like the immersion of the game more. And after the crwon crates will arive, we will onliny get new and cool stuff with this boxes. completly random for real money. Yeah not your problem, as a not whiney person. How you botter at all, if its not your problem? Get lost!

I guess it wasn't worth your mentioning One Tamriel. You can't just judge a developer solely on when he adds a new zone, any more than you can judge him solely on whether he adds crates to the game. However, if the game isn't advancing enough or in the right direction for you then there are plenty of others out there that may suit, including some that add new zones every few years  !

We'll be releasing Crown Crates later this week, and will be publishing an article on our website tomorrow with all the details.

I am saddened that you are going ahead with this horrible practice. I had hoped for better. Oh well.

I won't be wasting money on them.

I can't say I would be "fine" with them, but I would be sorta okay-ish with them if that was the case.

But with respect, that’s like saying those who buy the fireworks are suckers…… really? Maybe if everyone had the same view, there wouldn’t actually be any fireworks for people to watch.

I really feel quite sad that those who are happy to try their luck are seen as ‘idiots’ or suckers or one of the many other names they’ve been branded so far. All by people so toxic about something they cant bear for others to enjoy it

      Sad really…

It's more like if a company had exclusive rights to creating fireworks, and then decided they would make new exclusive fireworks only available as a potential reward in a gambling box, along with their discontinued firework products. Except that nothing is discontinued since it's literally all still being produced, and there's no guarantee that consumers will ever actually get the new exclusive fireworks, no matter how much money they risk trying to get them. This leaves everyone who loves fireworks sad because they could just let you buy them and stop being terrible, but they'd rather make gambling your only option because some market analysis said there was a 5% chance of increased revenue for a short period of time. Never mind that this has categorically led to declining overall sales for every other entertainment industry that started using gambling boxes, driving people to whatever new fad is out there.

Here, the "fireworks" are the TES intellectual property rights, and everything else is approximately the same.

      Sad really . . .

You know, instead of baby-raging about crown crates you all should be worried about the real problem:

The more days that pass without any info about the next dlc, the more likely it becomes that housing is going to be another standalone update without a DLC like One Tamriel was, so no new content, only new-player-bait and carrot-on-stick.

And that would be more damaging to the population, because boredom is a lot harder to ignore than rng boxes.

I miss a year ago when they actually tried to hype future DLCs, so we knew some DLC features and some base game stuff to look forward to.
Nowadays it's like: no info for months, then suddenly, this update has this, going to pts right now, k bye.

They said they'd publish info in an article so I'm wondering if they'll cushion the blow with info on upcoming DLC or something. "The Year Ahead" type stuff.

Content scarcity is something that walks side by side with the introduction of F2P transition strategies like RNG boxes.

So yes, we are talking about it.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

      Meet my characters:
      Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

I removed that what could be perceived as an insult from what you said.

It was kinda an attempt to mock. Removing it from a quote is very cute though.
