I would much rather they put equipment in the crates then cosmetics. I know this makes me a bad person, but it annoys me that most games see it as ok to charge extra for something i enjoy. I pay it because i can. But i wont gamble for it.

I already pay for all the expansions just like everyone else. Let people who want the biggest sword pay the extra for awhile. Include my costumes and pretty horses in the dlc.

I for one am sticking around and suffering the consequences for the same reason I even tried this game. It's TES. There isn't another TES MMO I can go to.

I'll probably be sticking around too seems Abeille is. That's true love right there.

Khajiit will be here. Unless they start charging this one to get into The Rosy Lion or turn it into some sort of gastropub yes.

Please post again with how many crates it takes you to get one of the apex rewards. You might be one of the chosen the rngesus will smile upon. Seriously. I'm not going to touch them after seeing them on the pts.

I'm curious as to how many crowns it will cost to get an apex reward when they go live, as opposed to outright being able to buy the mount. Iirc the most expensive mount to date was 5,000 crowns. Some of the people testing the crates on the pts opened the full number of crates you can buy for 5500 crowns every day for all 8 days. A few people got more than one exclusive mount, a few got one. Some got none. A few of the ones that got none finally racked up enough gems to buy the mount they wanted. So that mount cost about 33,000 crowns.

EDIT: Even if I leave, I wouldn't give you my stuff. You have the gamble crates to pick up all kinds of wonderful useful things since you're so enthusiastic about them. Just keep shoveling the crowns and you have all you need.

Or "who". And I think we all know who it might be...
Who was it? I would said it is more a "what". Easy answer: Money!

I would... when you guys fix the spelling mistake. Proper spelling is important if you want to be taken seriously! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Here's the summary of the changes we came up with that I think we concluded would make crates more acceptable (we can then see how many of these have actually been made):
    • Only the themed items should be exclusive to the crates (all the Apex rewards, the Storm Atronach Transform from the Legendary tier, the Storm Orb Juggle from the Epic tier, and the Storm Atronach Aura from the Superior tier).
    • The Storm Atronach Transform needs to be a polymorph. Considering it's a Legendary tier reward (ie, very rare), it should definitely be worth more than a 7-second memento effect, and a polymorph would be perfect (particularly considering there's already two themed mementos at the Superior and Epic tiers). Having the Legendary tier themed collectible be a polymorph would make it a more rewarding and worthwhile reward.
    • The Crown Crate XP Scroll, Fortifying Meal, and Refreshing Drink are considerably worse than the ones you can buy directly in the Crown Store. These should be scrapped and replaced with the standard Crown Store versions.
    • The riding lessons are worth more than double the other items at the Fine tier. To be of comparative value, each Card should contain 2 Repair Kits, 2 Soul Gems, 2 standard Fortifying Meals, 2 standard XP Scrolls, or 2 standard Refreshing Drinks, not 1.
    • The Invisibility Potion, Spellcaster's Elixir, Survivor's Elixir, and Warrior's Elixir at the Normal tier are currently exclusive to Crates. They need Crown Store direct purchases too, as there's no reason for them to be exclusive.
    • To match rewards to value (comparing Lethal Poisons to Tri-Resto Potions), there would need to be 40 Crown Lethal Poisons in each Card, rather than 25.
    • Duplicate Collectibles should give almost double the amount of recompense Gems that they gave on PTS.
    • Recompense values should be exact fractions of the prices in the Crown Gem store for the same tier items (ie, recompense should always be a multiple of 4).
    • Combining those two, for the lowest (Superior) tier items, a duplicate should compensate with 8 Gems (not 5). Thus two duplicates is enough to purchase something new.
    • You should be able to exchange Collectible items you don't want for Gems (not just Consumables), but less than you get for a duplicate. For example, an unwanted Superior collectible could be exchanged for 4 Gems.
    • The "Major" and "Grand" Crown Crate Experience Scrolls (in the Epic and Legendary tiers respectively) should be scrapped, as they do not "fit" well with the rest of the Crate rewards. They are the only Consumables in the higher reward tiers, so they do not really belong there in the first place, and players may get rather irritated if one of the rarer rewards came out as an XP scroll rather than a Collectible. Because of these scrolls, you may even get a draw with no Collectibles at all, as the scrolls take a spot that would otherwise be a Collectible.

The carefully parsed this statement and they happily discovered that Crown Crates do not violate it. They are not "locked"! Weee!

Of course, if they had accidentally said "no RNG boxes", that would not have stopped them. Nothing would have stopped these. No one at ZeniMax (any ZeniMax) or Bethesda would have any interest in stopping them.

That was the answer to someone posting "Hopefully the cash shop model doesn't introduce Locked RNG boxes where you have to pay money to buy the key..." on reddit. And if people would stop posting that one-year-old quote out of context it would probably stop appearing here...

Agreed, but many people took that as a blanket statement that they would not be considering RNG boxes at all. An incorrect assumption, as it turned out. Even if they had said that they would not be doing RNG boxes, it would not have mattered. We would still be getting them.

As it stands, they made no statement about Crown Crates. There was no "mind" to change. At least, not any in any manner that we were aware of.

Khajiit will explain briefly why the con crates they are objected to yes.

They encourage gambling. The chances of getting what you wish for without a significant amount of money exchanging paws is very slim. This was shown by all the testing on the PTS.

They take things that would be in the store and make you gamble to purchase them. They are an unfair transaction because you do not know what you buy before you buy it. If items were in the store directly then many of us would have no issue with a purchase - although this one she does object to motifs and dyes being in the store as these have previously only been in the game. Taking content available previously in one form and moving it to the more expensive one is a drip, drip process. First one thing, then another and soon all we love about Tamriel has a significant price tag on it.

They very largely contain consumables that not many people want anyway.

The crown gem exchange system is far too low. You will still need to buy many many crates and exchange many duplicates before getting the item you wish for.

They will probably dictate the future content of the store and the game itself - if they prove popular then all of the best items will be crate exclusive. This is the biggest concern for this one. When the Tamriel becomes nothing but a casino and great shiny shopping mall then many of us will cease to enjoy travelling there.

They took Pacrooti and made him into a crazed, crate junkie monster.

I been reading a lot of stuff about crown crates. But was still confused on some stuff. Wasn't sure how big of an impact crown crates will make. I thank you however. For making this in simplified format for me.

Now I truly understand how big of an impact it will make. For the whole community of ESO. Rather right or wrong. I am unsure. However. As I keep reading of what you wrote. I totally believe. Crown crates is unhealthy for us all.

Thus. Others are free to buy crown crates. It is there choice and free will. They have the right to do so. However. I won't be touching the crown crates. I don't think it's wise for me to do so.

Therefore I will respectfully refuse to not buy crown crates. Without prejudice. In honestly I believe crown crates will totally ruin me. Hence why I refuse to buy. Thank you @SantieClaws for helping me out. To make it more clear for me.

It's sad to hear that ESO goes down this route instead of leaving the choice of buying all items directly.

Well we all knew this was coming.

And it can be a good money saver for some of us. I canceled my sub. There is no reason for me to pay monthly with these in game. The whales(blame the gaming industry for using the name) that buy them can pay to keep the game afloat. Also it is hard in good conscience to pay into a game believing eventually they will change focus to be more on crown crates than on real issues/content.

And as many of us have been here proclaiming we will never buy them... I suspect a few of us oddly enough will eventually be seen riding one of the exclusive mounts and claiming to have tried 1 single box and got it. Even as much as I would never want to buy them, I fear that something may catch my eye and impulse will take over. Sometimes it's hard to stay away from "shiny", and on people with little impulse control will be swayed.

They should change the name of the Crown Crate exclusive momentos. Unlike momentos we earn via quests, there is no special moment to remember with gambling for them, they are just effects.

All that said, so long as they don't introduce real P2W items in it, and as long as there is no annoying flashing text on my screen telling me "X Player won Y Mount in Crown Crate!!!"... I will keep playing.

This. Very much this. It's easy to forget in the heat of the moment that the guys behind ZOS' keyboards are just doing their jobs, they're not the decision makers in this and I'll bet more than a few of them are pretty p*ssed at these crates too.

Forum discussions tend to be very over-stated so far as player opinions are concerned, given how small a proportion of the playerbase actually contributes to those discussions.

So far as the crates are concerned, my hunch is that one percent of players will hate them, one percent will love them, and the other ninety-eight percent either won't know about them or else won't be bothered one way or the other by them.

Personally, I'm not against them but I have no interest in buying them nor any interest in what they are likely to contain. I'll be interested, however, to see whether ZOS have addressed any of the concerns about them in the final Live version, and it would have been good if they had dropped them in response to the genuine opposition to them although that was always unlikely and I do think the grounds for opposition were over-stated.

I'm guessing the crown crates bit will be a section of the showcase. It'll be interesting to see how much stuff makes it onto the store vs how much gets hidden away in ripoff boxes.

We'll be releasing Crown Crates later this week, and will be publishing an article on our website tomorrow with all the details.

The "I'm on the moral high ground" feeling is strong in this topic.

I'll be trying them out. See what they came up with.

You are completely right. Curious to see what they changed.

Given their past history, Im not sure i would get my hopes up. we will be posting more about it tomorrow, could mean anytime in the next 6 months.

Looking forward to the crates arriving. Already got some crowns saved up for all the P2W gear im gonna get. Im gonna be so boss with all my new equipment and mounts.

And if that wasn’t enough, with all the people about the quit the game, im hoping there’ll be a lot of ‘have my stuff’ threads around……

I knew I’d catch someone eventually but not within the first couple of posts >:)

ps if you do leave, id put your stuff to good use on the guild traders..(then I can spend the gold on crown crates)

Nah. Lately I've been running with a low level newish character. People would have no interest in buying the stuff I have. I'm deconning most of it. My guilds will get my mats and stuff.

And, O Troll, please explain how you'll buy "crown" crates with gold. I'm curious about that too.

ah that's a shame. i'll just have to use my own millions of gold to buy stuff then.

seriously, im not a troll. (check my posts) but do you have any confirmed details n how they will work (from ZOS) ? Or is everyone just guessing and crying Armageddon.

From what ive just read, theya re posting details tomorrow so I’ll hold off on stocking up on tins of beans for a day or two

We tested them in the PTS and we had a green post from Gina telling us which changes they were willing to make, so we have a good idea regarding how they are going to work.
Honestly I would be fine with the crates if the only crown crate exclusive items are the ones that go with the theme of the crate such as the Atronach mounts. Make everything else purchasable in the crown store.

I can't say I would be "fine" with them, but I would be sorta okay-ish with them if that was the case.
Not that anyone should care, because when I say I would find them "sorta okay-ish", it really only means I wouldn't complain about them anymore, not that this change would make me want to buy them. Because I don't think there is anything ZOS can really do to make me buy RNG boxes.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

      Meet my characters:
      Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.
