Good find @driosketch Thanks. Hmm yeah I can see how that happens... it also explains why the two "fancy" xp scrolls are with the higher tiered rewards when you preview the crate contents.

Sometimes the collectible is replaced with a high tier Crown Experience scroll instead. You can tell this is intended (but not necessarily welcome) if you choose the preview option for the crown crates. The items in the list are sorted by rarity with consumables at the bottom and apex mounts at the top. That particular experience scroll is sorted in with the collectibles and not with the consumables.

Unless someone posts a new pic, I'm inclined to say that you will always get one collectible (or high tier xp scroll) per 4 cards. You will very occasionally get 2 collectibles per 4 cards. Also in my experience, if Parcrooti tosses a 5th card to you, that 5th card is always a 2nd tier or higher collectible which is why a very large number of apex mounts seem to be coming from the 5 card packs (confirmation on this would be appreciated).

Can I request someone at ZOS check the drop rates for the Orchid Nixad, Red Pit Wolf Pup and possibly the Storm Atronach Camel?

I know 'RNG is RNG' but in this thread a group of players have opened 576 crates between us (enough to get 10 Storm Atronach Mounts) and those items have not dropped at all.

Strangely enough I've had all 3 of those drop. At least I think so - I'm not 100% sure of the Orchid Nixad, but I think I got it. I can check when I'm home from work. The Camel is the only Apex reward I've had drop, and of those 3 the Red Pit Wolf Pup is the only one I would actually be interested in.

    From the patch notes:
    OVERVIEW
The Elder Scrolls Online v2.6.3 is the last incremental patch on the PTS. We’ve continued to fix issues involving itemization and gameplay, and have improved the overall stability of the client. While we’ve fixed some minor bugs with Crown Crates, most of the planned improvements mentioned in this post have not yet been implemented; you can expect to see these changes when Crown Crates are released later this year.

"you can expect to see these changes when Crown Crates are released later this year"

This means that we cannot test the Crown Crates "later this year" and share & make our own estimates of the % drop rates and Crown Gem refunds in the current PTS.

Unless you update the PTS later this year.
(or release key figures of the tables)

I had a storm atro camel drop in my first 23 crates. Happened on the second day but not sure what exactly else I got in the crate. I also had a storm atro senche drop today. I think in total I've opened 62 crates and have 2 atro mounts (camel & senche).

Hi everyone, here’s where we are with Crown Crates:

We put systems on the PTS for player feedback for a reason – we have sifted (and continue to analyze) your feedback on Crown Crates, and as such, we’re going to make at least the following changes to the system before it goes live later this year:
    • We are working to change the way the system works to ensure that you get higher tiered items more often.
    • We will allow you to convert unwanted Crown Crate consumables into Crown Gems. This way, you won’t be stuck with consumables you may not want, and you will also have more Gems to purchase the items that you do want.
    • We will also take another look at Crown Crate potions, food, XP scrolls, etc. with an eye towards boosting their effectiveness and/or duration. This may entail us adding new recipes to allow crafters to make similar items.
We may well find other changes we want to make as well, and will let everyone know what we have done when this initial round of changes are in and can test them internally.

    @ZOS_GinaBruno
    This is great news!
Thanks very much for letting us know what the plans are.
The only thing that i would suggest is to increase the amount of crown gems obtained for duplicate items. Perhaps on a "like for like" system? So you get the amount of crown gems that an item in that tier costs to buy.
With all of these implemented it's defiantly viable that players including myself will spend money on crown crates, instead of boycotting them as i was thinking we might.

Thanks again for your work and feedback, much appreciated

To day I opened my 91st crate without an Apex reward only to hear, "Pacrooti has never seen such a magnificent display of good fortune". Pacrooti isn't very perceptive is he.

The PTS update didn't include changes to the crates. Tactically a bad move, my experience so far has persuaded me not to buy them and I will certainly be warning other players that on present form they are wasting their money. You should have put the improvements out on PTS to show players that you had done something because only someone who is brain dead is going to spend money to find out if the changes are worthwhile.

Also don't you think it's a bit counter intuitive to have the "E" key on the left on the Confirm Purchase popup and on the right on the following Transaction Complete popup. I build control systems for a living and if one of my juniors did that they would certainly get an ear bashing. It's one of the best ways to get a operator to press the wrong key going

P.S. I'll be referring to them as "the crates" in future as the crown part implies a level if excellence that simply doesn't exist.

He wasn't talking about your good fortune. He was talking about his own, because he took all of your crowns and didn't have to give you anything worthwhile in return.

    Crown Store & Crown Crates
    [snip]
    Consumables
    • Increased the duration of all Crown Potion effects. While this change brings Crown Potions a little closer to crafted potions, level-appropriate crafted potions still last longer.
And so they reveal their strategy. If crown consumables aren't lucrative enough to make people use the crates, buff them to be much closer to crafted versions.

So when people rightly deduce that an extra few seconds of major power/crit or regen buffs don't make these potions any more desirable, what then? Does ZOS start buffing the resource stats too? How close can they get them before they are just as competitive as crafted pots?

My take: the change does nothing to make me want to use these potions. The only thing it does is reveal ZOS' willingness to creep closer to P2W if they think it will reinforce their misguided scamboxes.

I finally had a few minutes on the PTS and I gave the crown crates a go. In another thread, I had said I simply wouldn't buy any. Not because there wasn't anything I wanted in them, but because I didn't care one way or the other if they existed. I understand why Zos wants to implement them, but I think they're shooting themselves in the foot with the idea. It's a low quality way of tempting people to spend instead of a quality offering that inspires people to spend in support of the game.

So, having bought the crates I noticed the new icon on the UI. Strike one. You're changing UI elements to support something you know people are upset about. Now, instead of opening the store and seeing the crates, it's there winking at us. A simple container in your inventory would have been in better taste, but good taste is being flung out the window.

Upon using the icon, beloved Pacrooti is being used in a cut scene to make my 400 crowns feel like they were spent on something awesome. Nope. A bunch of consumables and a pet I didn't buy before because I didn't want it. Unlike all of the other pets I have bought because I wanted them and I felt them worth the crowns. Strike two.

It pulled me out of the game and into a mini game. You've taken suggestions we've made on the forums for months or even years. "Why no mini games?" "Could we have gambling in-game, dice or cards?" "When will Pacrooti be back?" Strike three. Using suggestions that were and are intended for the honest game. The real game. Mini games, card games and most of all Pacrooti were never intended to be twisted and perverted like this. Strike three.

You want me to buy stuff? Ok, I will. I'll buy a costume or a mount that I can see. I've done it plenty of times already! I won't buy a crown crate though. There is nothing you can ever put in one that will make me subject myself to the sad, depressing reminder of how you took our suggestions and twisted them. I don't care about gems or mounts, there's nothing I want that if I can't buy it outright, that would make me open that pandering cut screen again.

Considering that we know development is about two years out, i.e., static game elements that showed up two years before actual live release, has this also been in the works since 2014? The sub that became buy to play, then the crates which may get better consumables, despite the assurance that crown items would never be better than crafted? You guys aren't even being subtle.

All of this. This entire system reeks of greed, but more importantly, indicates a shift in focus and priorities, and that is the potential downfall right there.

Of course the exchange rate for gems is garbage, just as I predicted. I've already seen all of this with STO. Getting 1-2 Lobi Crystals per box and it costs 900 to buy the items people actually want. But, at least with STO, you can grind dilithium and exchange it for Zen (crowns) or save up energy credits (gold) and buy items off of the exchange. I've finally leveled up my crafting schools and can make 3 Million per day easily just selling tech upgrades, and I'm pretty casual.

I dread the future of ESO focusing on cramming more exclusive items into these crates. Housing is coming next year. I'm sure the desirable furniture and the like will be in these crates. This is going to do little more than mute or outright destroy people's enthusiasm for new gameplay features. The content itself is what is supposed to keep people playing and encourage them to open their wallet. If I was able to buy a house in-game for gold and the mechanics were reasonable and fair, it would make me want to buy items from the crown store to supplement that. What is more likely to happen is we will get a barebones housing option that will feel incomplete unless we gamble our lives away on these crates or spend an inordinate amount in the crown store.

This is exactly what will happen. Many would be glad to buy the stuff on the store. It's sad to see that's not enough. People, don't buy these crates and maybe they will go away. Games do this because people are stupid enough to waste money on chance for stuff they used to sell for a fair quantifiable price. do you want everything in the game tied to crates?

Regarding exclusive items. With the drop list onscreen in front of me, I can take this on a per-item basis.

Of course I would much rather that there were absolutely no exclusive items in the crates, but that's not going to happen. So let's instead consider it logically. The crate is called the "Storm Atronach Crate", "A mystery collection of Storm Atronach-related items", and is thus expected to have a "Storm Atronach" theme. Anything that follows the theme would logically be expected to be exclusive to the crate of that theme. Anything that is unrelated to the theme would logically not be exclusive to a themed crate.

    Apex Rewards
All six of these items follow the theme. All of these would be exclusive to the Storm Atronach Crate.
    • Storm Atronach Bear Mount
    • Storm Atronach Camel
    • Storm Atronach Guar Mount
    • Storm Atronach Horse
    • Storm Atronach Senche Mount
    • Storm Atronach Wolf Mount

    Legendary Rewards
14 of these items have nothing to do with the theme. Therefore they should not be exclusive to Crown Crates.
    • Black Mane Lion Mount
    • Black Mask Bear-Dog
    • Clouded Senche-Leopard
    • Clouded Senche-Leopard Cub
    • Dwarf-Style Mage's Hat
    • Frost Mare
    • Imperial Mananaut Cap & Goggles
    • Mind-Shriven Skin
    • Mind-Shriven Horse
    • Orchid Nixad
    • Red Pit Wolf Mount
    • Red Pit Wolf Pup
    • Rosy Netch Calf
    • Tangerine Dragon Frog
One item is tied to the theme, so would be exclusive.
    • Storm Atronach Transform
The other item at this tier is the Grand Crown Crate Experience Scroll. That shouldn't exist at all, per my previous comment.

    Epic Rewards
14 of these items have nothing to do with the theme. Therefore they should not be exclusive to Crown Crates.

    • Palomino Horse
    • Purple Daggerback
    • Shadow Stripe Headwrap
    • The Aurbic Eye
    • Upright Antler Skullcap
One item is tied to the theme, so would be exclusive.
    • Storm Orb Juggle
The other item at this tier is the Major Crown Crate Experience Scroll. That shouldn't exist at all, per my previous comment.

    Superior Rewards
18 of these items have nothing to do with the theme. Therefore they should not be exclusive to Crown Crates.
    • "Clever Man" Wizard Hat
    • Azure Brow-to-Temple Circlet
    • Battlemage Palatine Armor
    • Battlemage Scout Captain Uniform
    • Battlemage Tribune Armor
    • Daedric Scamp
    • Evening Dress
    • Feathered Bycoket Cap
    • Fibonaccus Spiral Hat
    • Helstrom Ancestor Lizard
    • Jawbone Blades

    • Shornhelm Shepherd
    • Soul-Shriven Armor Outfit
    • Soul-Shriven Leather Outfit
    • Soul-Shriven Ragged Clothing
    • Wrestler's Burr Cut
The other item is tied to the theme, so would be exclusive.
    • Storm Atronach Aura

    Fine Rewards
These three items are Crate exclusives, but they are considerably worse than the ones you can buy directly in the Crown Store (they only last for 30 minutes when their counterparts last for 2 hours, and you only get one of them). They should be scrapped and replaced with the standard Crown Store versions, or you should get at least 5 at once.
    • Crown Crate Experience Scroll
    • Crown Crate Fortifying Meal
    • Crown Crate Refreshing Drink
The remaining items at this Tier can already be purchased in the Crown Store.
    • Crown Lesson: Riding Capacity
    • Crown Lesson: Riding Speed
    • Crown Lesson: Riding Stamina
    • Crown Repair Kit
    • Crown Soul Gem
As they are, the three Crate-exclusives are considerably worse value than a Repair Kit or Soul Gem, considering you can get 10 Soul Gems for the same price as 10 standard Fortifying Meals direct from the Crown Store. What's more, the riding lessons are worth more than double the other items at this tier. To be of comparative value, each Crate Card should contain 2 Repair Kits, 2 Soul Gems, 2 standard Fortifying Meals, 2 standard XP Scrolls, or 2 standard Refreshing Drinks at this reward tier.

    Normal Rewards
These four items are currently exclusive to Crates. They need Crown Store direct purchases too, as there's no reason for them to be exclusive.
    • Crown Invisibility Potion (5)
    • Crown Spellcaster's Elixir (5)
    • Crown Survivor's Elixir (5)
    • Crown Warrior's Elixir (5)
The remaining items can already be purchased in the Crown Store.
    • Crown Lethal Poison (25)
    • Crown Mimic Stone
    • Crown Tri-Restoration Potion (5)
For a value comparison, 20 Crown Tri-Restoration Potions can be bought for 400 Crowns, which is exactly equivalent to the cost of a Crown Crate and 4 Potion Cards. However, to value-match Crown Lethal Poisons, there would need to be 40, rather than 25, in each Crate Card.

14 of these items have nothing to do with the theme. Therefore they should not be exclusive to Crown Crates.

    • Clouded Senche-Leopard Cub

    • Mind-Shriven Horse
    • Orchid Nixad
    • Red Pit Wolf Mount
    • Red Pit Wolf Pup
    • Rosy Netch Calf
    • Tangerine Dragon Frog
One item is tied to the theme, so would be exclusive.
    • Storm Atronach Transform
The other item at this tier is the Grand Crown Crate Experience Scroll. That shouldn't exist at all, per my previous comment.

@ZOS_GinaBruno this would be something most would accept. Remove all the items on that list with the exception of the items that fit that theme. Many would be willing to at least continue giving ESO a chance. Please pass this on and give it some consideration. Those other items don't belong in the crates as exclusives. Thanks.

Just got hit by a rather annoying glitch while opening these on my second account. First account was fine, second account, the first crate I attempted to open had no cards, no sign that I had opened the box (Pacrooti even gave an impatient "I'm waiting"), and when I tabbed out, nothing showed for the loot drop, yet I "think" my gem total went up 5. Also, got a Clever Man hat, it was a duplicate, but it never indicated it with the gems or greyed out card. Though I'll never buy them on live, a bug like that will really make people angry.

As an aside, the comment from Pacrooti "Did you know that pregnant dogs are filled with puppies?!", while slightly amusing, really is kind of an odd bit of idle chatter.

So they're going to "improve" drop rates etc & now it looks like we're not even going to be able to test this before it goes live (according to the 2.6.3 patch notes).

I have grave fears for how housing will be implemented. I'd say the houses themselves will be DLC based (as they should), but I have a gut feeling that any decorations or customisation will be crown store or crack crate based.

I'm sorry, but I find the whole gamble box shenanigans to be predatory & against the spirit of The Elder Scrolls franchise.

My sub is due in 2 days & I think it's time I voted with my wallet & cancelled it entirely.

Unfortunately enough time and resources have been spent on the crown crates that ZoS is going to do their best to get their return out of them.

No matter how they change the system, its guaranteed to be worse $$$ to collectable than what we had before, thats what its designed to be.

Such a shame to see ESO to go down this path, and since they have been working on this 'feature' for so long, i know this is only the beginning of whats to come.

Hello ladies and gentlemen. I just watched @MissBizz in her video on youtube. In these videos she opened more than 31,200 crowns worth of crates by purchasing 13 crates (5200 crowns) per day for 6 days. That is the equivalent of $226.85 USD. Thus far she has managed to acquire all of the superior level (tier 1) rewards, about half of the epic level (tier 2) rewards, two of the 15 legendary level (tier 3) rewards, and on the fourth day she managed to get her one and only apex level (tier 4) reward which was the Storm Atronach horse. That is like buying three and 3/4 skyrim games when Elder Scrolls Skyrim first launched and getting none of the comparative content.

I understand and even enjoy that the game developers want to give us shiny mounts and outfits. The existence of the crown store is nice in that it enables us to directly purchase those items that we deem to be individually worthy of our money. It is something entirely different to place coveted items behind a paywall and to then further hide them behind a random chance wall. I don't need or have any desire to pay for all of those consumables. I don't need potions or poisons since I have an alchemist, I don't need food or drinks since I have a provisioner, I don't need the grand soul gems since I thieve or quest to acquire those, and I don't need the horse skill lines. I have been playing since beta and ten of my 12 characters already have their horses maxed out in stamina, speed, and carry capacity. I don't have any desire to purchase those old armor cosmetics, pets, polymorphs, or mounts. If I had wanted those things I would have purchased them when they came out along with the purchases that I did make.

What I do want are a few of the new items. Unfortunately these items are tucked away inside a random chance drop. When Rich announced that crown crates were coming he said it would be a chance for players who missed out on stuff that they wanted to have access to old content. That in itself was fine. It was generous even. But I very much dislike that in order to get the few new items that I want I will be forced to wade through old content that I passed up for lack of interest and to purchase consumables that I do not need. This setup does not even give me the courtesy of choosing a direct option to purchase the things I actually want if I deem them to be worthy of my hard earned money.

Yes I know we are talking about allowing us to exchange all those consumables for crown gems in addition to the cosmetic sets we already have. But I notice that those are not direct equivalent exchanges either. An example would be the evening dress which only refunds a player with five gems but costs much more to purchase with gems.

My recommendation is to have a two part system- The first allows us to directly purchase the items that we really want, and the second allows people to gamble and to get lots of consumables if they also need them. I for one will not be purchasing any crown crates. Maybe the developers should take lessons from the priests of Z'en or Zenithar. The path to peace and prosperity comes through earnest work, and HONEST profit. Not through war, bloodshed, or theft.

Wow...I came here to check out what changes are being made for the next big update, and I find myself sickened by these crown crates. I liked that this game offered nice items in the store for direct purchase, and have bought quite a few things. But I will *never* pay for RNG traps.

I am currently subscribed and plan to stay that way, but that WILL change the very moment this RNG garbage becomes any kind of requirement for enjoying this game. I pay as long as it is purely optional, and I can get what I want without wasting money on RNG.

Just want to reiterate, as a master alchemist, that the (now buffed) potions are still weaker than crafted potions. There is no use for these on my characters ... since they can make better potions in-game.

Other than the concept of the crates (which a great many of players have already made their opinions known), I will not be buying the crates because my characters don't need most of the consumables offered. Crown potions, riding lessons, crown poisons ... these are flat out items I can't put to use.
