ESO "Tamriel Unlimited" + DLC aren't free, but purchasers of these products are SCREWED.... again.

how the hell you are screwed?, care to elaborate?

Sure, I'll elaborate. I'm screwed because I invested dollars and crowns into buying DLC that are effectively WORTHLESS if I end up having to subscribe every month anyway in order to experience the whole game. The crafting bag is a gigantic "F U" to everyone who got conned into purchasing the DLC... this costume dye thing is just adding insult to injury.

I could say the exact same thing about my Sub if i drop my sub I lose access to all content (so that makes my sub worthless?) i dont understand your gripe sorry.

Your subscription is just a rental, but I purchased DLC with the idea that I OWNED them. Now ZOS is twisting my arm to try to make me pay RENT on something I already OWN. You don't see the problem with that?

Did you read the ToS? You bought a license to use the content. And ZOS controls the content. From the ToS:

By creating an Account, You agree that You do not own the Account, any user names created on the Account, any Content stored or associated with an Account (such as digital and/or virtual assets, achievements, virtual currency, and other Downloadable Content), or related data associated with the Account. ...

You agree that You have no ownership right or title in or to any such Downloadable Content, including, but not limited to, the virtual goods appearing or originating in the Services (such as a Game) or any other attributes associated with any Account or Services. ZeniMax does not recognize any purported transfers of virtual property executed outside of the Game, or the purported sale, gift or trade in the "real world" of anything that appears or originates in a Service or a Game. Accordingly, You may not sell, and You may not assist others in selling, Service(s) or in-Game items for real currency, or exchange those items for value outside of the Services. Evidence of any attempt to redeem Downloadable Content for a purported exchange, sale, gift or trade in the "real world" will result in the immediate suspension or termination of Your Account.

    3. Limited License to Use

Subject to the terms in these Terms of Service and Your compliance with all of the terms and conditions in these Terms of Service, ZeniMax grants to You, for Your personal and private use only, a non-exclusive, revocable, nontransferable license to use Services (including any Content which is made available by ZeniMax (including but not limited to Game Mods that You download from a ZeniMax website) as a part of a Service and then solely in connection with such Service) as set forth in these Terms of Service.

    Fromt he EULA:

    Ownership of the Game.

ZeniMax and its licensors are and will continue to be the owner of all right, title, and interest in and to the Game and the Service, including without limitation all intellectual property rights and moral rights in and to the Game and all copies thereof (including without limitation any titles, software programs and code, Game related themes, characters, character names, character likenesses, stories, dialog, catch phrases, locations, concepts, artwork, character inventories, structural, landscape and other designs in the Game, animations, sounds, musical compositions and recordings, audio-visual effects, storylines, methods of operation, and any related documentation). The Game is protected by the copyright laws of the United States, international treaties and conventions, and other laws. The Game may contain materials licensed by third parties, and the licensors of those materials may enforce their rights in the event of any violation of this Agreement. This paragraph will survive the termination of this Agreement. You acknowledge and agree that you have no interest, monetary or otherwise, in any feature or content contained in the Game. As further described in the ZeniMax Terms of Service, but subject to the Statutory Obligations (as defined in Section 1 of the ZeniMax Terms of Service), ZeniMax may change, modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the Game at any time and ZeniMax may also impose limits on certain features or restrict your access to parts or all of the Game without notice or liability.

these people will not listen to reason

What do you mean these people?

Owning a perpetual license is the same thing as buying a single player game. So yes we are justified in being upset after buying a perpetual license for content we are being strong armed into paying for a rental license to access the same content.

A few months ago you people where the ones clamoring about how awesome the buy to play model was.

No original thought just think how the company tells you to think.

What he means by that is this kind of practise should never be encouraged by us (players).
If we accept this then be prepared for more $$$ to come with an increase in price.

When you say he do you mean me or the person I was quoting?

Although yes I agree with what you are saying. The tactic was underhanded and I feel used again to make more money quickly. First I pay my subscription which ended up being used to get a console port released instead of giving me content!

Then they say they are going to go buy to play and that other then experience rewards buying the content is just as good. When they damn well knew they where going to strong arm people who bought the content to subscribe if they want to be viable in the end game later on. Lies and deceit in the name of profits screw the customer!

None of this mess would have ever happened if the game had simply stayed a subscription model. If the company felt they needed more money sell the expansions like WOW. At least then I wouldn't feel ripped off.

However now since they opened pandora's box and sold perpetual licenses to content but now see fit to gimp the characters that you can have within the content I feel ripped off and extorted especially in light of these new perks described a few posts back. A couple hundred less champion points and gimped in the trades.

    It is border line criminal.

There is nothing wrong with a subscription based game - what is wrong is a free to play game - because it is long term more expensive and less enjoyable than a subscription game - IMO. You cannot expect a good service, if you are not willing to pay for it, simple as that. All what seems to be free, has somewhere something what will bother you until you finally pay - and often more than you would have had to pay in a subscription game.

But this is a B2P game!. I don't mind these kind of things to be there for a F2P game.
Just look at barbershop! We have to purchase real money to get those changes. :(

You don't have to as a subscriber - that is all what I can say to it.

If I subscribed, I'd be paying extra to customize the costumes that I already bought. Granted, there's other benefits for subbing, but, still, I'm paying extra to customize the stuff that I've already bought. It's just too much in my opinion.

I've purchased clothes. I bought them. I actually own the clothes instead of just buying the license to use the clothes. I want to change the color. Why do I have to pay for the dye from the store to change the color of the clothes I already purchased?

I bought a bookcase. I want to change the color from Oak to Hunter Green. Why do I have to buy the paint?

This is the same reason I am upset. It's a form of scamming.

I should i feel scammed that im paying monthly and once i quit my ESO plus sub I loss access to all the content after i have spend $250+ on subs am i scammed!!! absolute not I dont feel that way in the slightest i have gotten my money worth in this game tenfold!!!

Are you stupid or trying to deflect the argument.

The concept of buying the content instead of paying the sub is so you don't lose it.

A subscription is a fancy phrase for renting something.

Being upset you lose access to content from a sub is not the same thing as being upset at being coerced to subscribe (rent) to content you already bought to get a perk that is utterly important to the game. unlimited crafting bag space is not trivial.

I have the sub. I also bought the dlc in case I ever wanted or needed to stop my sub. I used the crowns from my sub to buy the dlc. I am failing to see the scam. Until/unless ZOS shuts the game down I will have access to the parts of the game I wanted to have access to. Now, if they had offered the sub without the crowns and forced you to buy the dlc outright in addition, then perhaps that would be a scam.

Sorry; while I do really like the crafting bag and the convenience of it, I managed to level 5 crafters to 50, research traits, and be the armorer/provisioner/alchemist/enchanter/woodworker/clothier for 5 different guilds WITHOUT the crafting bag. It is NOT a necessity that will break the game if you don't have it.

Well of course - they put in effort and that costed money to create these features - why do you expect them to do that for free. If you have to do over-time for your boss, do you expect him to pay you for this extra effort or are you saying, well, you paid me already, all fine, so I work this over-time for free. - You don't, and why do you expect ZOS to do over-time for free just because you paid for the game already.

    Don't. Just stop it.

You won't find many people here who are reasonable when it comes to this topic. On the forums, practically everyone is subbed. This is one of few topics where our forums do not represent the in-game community.
    (Like the vMA completion poll)

Yeah, you got screwed by this, and so did the majority of players including practically everyone I have spoken to about it.

ZOS knows exactly what they did, and made sure to stay silent on all of these features being sub-only so we would purchase stuff with Crowns before putting nice things behind the subscription wall.

It sucks, and it will progressively get worse. We already see the trend which started from those Crafting Bags.

So seriously, I recommend dropping the subject. You won't come to any agreements and people won't side with you.

Well of course - they put in effort and that costed money to create these features - why do you expect them to do that for free. If you have to do over-time for your boss, do you expect him to pay you for this extra effort or are you saying, well, you paid me already, all fine, so I work this over-time for free for you. - You don't, and why do you expect ZOS to do over-time for free just because you paid for the game already.

All of the people subbing right now are so concerned with cosmetic crap and argue back and forth about value. How about the fact that the game is nearly unplayable? How many subbers treat it like a gym membership and have it taken out of their bank and drop into the game only occasionally? You contribute, but how much do you actually care about the game?

I would actually like to sub and get the perks and crowns, but I am not subbing for the product they have on the table. Crafting bag and costume dyes be damned. None of it matters when you can't even load your character. I have already dropped $200 on this game, which subbers still snub their nose at because I am a dirty low-life B2Player. Well, they need to give a lot of players a better reason to drop an extra $15 a month.

Where are we getting the free thing from? I will gladly pay 20-40 bucks for a DLC or two that includes the crafting bags, entire dye customization system, racial change, and appearance change. Game expansions sell equals developer makes money.

What bothers is me is this piece meal buy over and over thing. That isn't buy to play it is micro transaction free to play stuff.

I repeat, if I could have the convenience of owning those features in my game without having to re-purchase stuff over and over I would buy the convenience DLC pack. They way they are doing dyes and barber shop is like If I bought the imperial race but in order to customize it or If I deleted it, I lose it and have to repurchase the race.

I think it's both unfortunate and unwise that they've chosen to go this route with costume dying. Being able to color the costumes increases their value significantly, which makes them a more tempting purchase.

That said, however, this sort of thing is a better "extra" to offer subscribers than something like crafting bags, in that a) it gives no mechanical benefit (unlike the crafting bag), and b) crown store customers still have a way to dye their outfits if they want to, albeit a somewhat clunky one.

To people like my girlfriend, however, who've bought every DLC, nearly every mount and costume, and a ton of style guides, this sort of thing feels like a slap in the face, and rightly so.

People really need to get over this idea that subscribers are somehow a more reliable source of income (we aren't), and that people who purchase things individually aren't supporting the game (they are). The "cancel subscription" button is not hard to find. I can stop paying my fifteen bucks a month just as easily as my girlfriend can stop spending money in the crown store. I haven't "committed" to anything. My monthly fee is not a "guarantee". I am not part of a special group who's solely responsible for keeping the lights on. And the roughly 400 bucks she's spent since she decided to purchase the game about six months ago absolutely is contributing.

If the company feels that these features are special extras and need to be charged for, that's fine. If they want to make them a subscriber benefit, that's fine too. But this bizarre idea that ONLY subscribers should have access to them is uncalled for. As a subscriber, you pay a small fee very month for continual access to everything. As a crown store user, you pay larger, one-time fees for permanent access to specific things. They both have their pros and cons, but in the end, they're just different ways to pay for the same content. Sticking on exclusive extras that can only be accessed by subscribers doesn't just add value to subscriptions, it also sends a loud and clear message to those who prefer à la carte purchases that they are seen as a lower class of customer, and that's not a good thing if you want people to keep giving you their money. For those for whom a subscription doesn't add up, it isn't going to make them subscribe, it's just going to make them feel undervalued as customers and stop buying anything from you.

But they don't do their jobs well like lags and imbalance of classes. So, why should I pay a single dime to them?

I know you don't do PvP much but its really become worst, nowdays!

No but in that real life circumstance I could buy some cheap paint and re-paint it 100 times without paying a middle man.

Exactly. I have spent more on this game in the last week then subscribers have in six months but give the shaft to me.

That is poor planning for the future.

They way they are doing dyes and barber shop is like If I bought the imperial race but in order to customize it or If I deleted it, I lose it and have to repurchase the race.

when they announced the crafting bag they stated clearly it will be ESO+ exclusive - what does this tell you?- it means, you will not get it without to subscribe. And they said it early on - long before the bags were actually available. Now there is another exclusive perk - the freedom to use the dying system like we have it on armors as well for costumes - and guess what, there are more exclusive perks to be expected in future - so if you want these exclusive stuffs/features, you have to sub, if you don't, you won't get it. What is is so hard to understand with the meaning of the word "exclusive"?

I think a lot of people misunderstand difference between convenience items and cosmetic nowhere does a race change or changing facial features affect my Gameplay at all while crafting bags are nice they were not essential to play the game PC players have been playing without them for two years. Now ZoS started offering Champion point 501 characters then yes we will have a problem

how the hell you are screwed?, care to elaborate?

Sure, I'll elaborate. I'm screwed because I invested dollars and crowns into buying DLC that are effectively WORTHLESS if I end up having to subscribe every month anyway in order to experience the whole game. The crafting bag is a gigantic "F U" to everyone who got conned into purchasing the DLC... this costume dye thing is just adding insult to injury.

I hate it when people apologize for companies. Are you so indoctrinated that you no longer have compassion towards people who got ripped off?

Just because you didn't get cheated doesn't mean what ZOS did was ethical.

I bought DLCs as well and was not subscribed until ZOS announced crafting bags as a subscription only perk and said, there will be more useful perks in future - and I immediately subscribed, I did not wait for the crafting bag, I made a leap of faith, no longer buying any more DLCs but trusted into that ZOS will get this right - you had the same chance, didn't you?

As a matter of fact no I didn't. When I was buying all the DLC on Wednesday of this week and dropping over a hundred dollars on this game the DLC section failed to mention that they are not feature complete.

The only place this is mentioned in the store is in the ESO + section. But why on earth would I go in there after I just got done buying all the DLC?

Yet some kid paying $15 is worth more then someone willing to spend more then just their allowance once a month and gets the royal treatment.

Whatever. I get it. I subscribed and won't be buying anymore crowns. Congratulations ZOS you lost yourself way more money then $77 over the course of six months. Plus thanks for the free crowns. I won't be wasting them on buying the DLC like the other person mentioned. That is beyond dumb especially doing it knowingly. Spending twice for the same content.

Race change comes even with the feature, that you will have the same racial level in the new race, even you have not spend an hour with this race - they would not have to do that - but it is part of the feature. So using that token saves you all the effort to grind racial levels again, you just keep what you already got on another race - isn't it worth it?

What he means by that is this kind of practise should never be encouraged by us (players).
If we accept this then be prepared for more $$$ to come with an increase in price.

Well of course - they put in effort and that costed money to create these features - why do you expect them to do that for free. If you have to do over-time for your boss, do you expect him to pay you for this extra effort or are you saying, well, you paid me already, all fine, so I work this over-time for free for you. - You don't, and why do you expect ZOS to do over-time for free just because you paid for the game already.

how the hell you are screwed?, care to elaborate?

They way they are doing dyes and barber shop is like If I bought the imperial race but in order to customize it or If I deleted it, I lose it and have to repurchase the race.

when they announced the crafting bag they stated clearly it will be ESO+ exclusive - what does this tell you?- it means, you will not get it without to subscribe.

What is so hard for you to understand about paying for the feature when it is delivered and not paying a subscription based on promises of things to come from a company with no morals and a history of scamming its customers?

Calling people dumb is not constructive people can play however they want buying DLC or subbing and getting a monthly crown allotment and all future DLC released in the future as long as they keep the sub. If they can keep the quarterly release schedule then I'm going to be very happy. You should if done research beforehand all promotional material clearly stated that craft bag was an ESO plus exclusive.

like the new personality coming with Shadows of the Hist
Well now you've got to tell us what the new personality is.

The Heroic personality as shown during today's ESO Live.
If you want your character to stand very straight and push out his or her chest (and walk like a peacock) that's the personality you're looking for.

Those were brilliant responses, man! Haha.

I didn't even think of that, though. Personalities really do reward people no matter which way they go about gaining access to the DLC, and it's very nice to have that feature put into place.

Also, I appreciate the effort put into enchancing the experience of Role-Play for this game a lot in recent months. A LOT of the Appearance changes (including the addition of Personalities) and Collectibles like Mounts and Pets over the years have really helped people create characters that look-and-feel like they want them to be, and I can't wait see what else is to come really. I like to really put myself into my character's boots, so-to-speak, so it's all great stuff for that feeling of immersion. :)

these people will not listen to reason

What do you mean these people?

Owning a perpetual license is the same thing as buying a single player game. So yes we are justified in being upset after buying a perpetual license for content we are being strong armed into paying for a rental license to access the same content.

A few months ago you people where the ones clamoring about how awesome the buy to play model was.

No original thought just think how the company tells you to think.

What he means by that is this kind of practise should never be encouraged by us (players).
If we accept this then be prepared for more $$$ to come with an increase in price.

This mindset of wanting everything for free is cancer.

    Dear mr. White knight

Calling people dumb is not constructive people can play however they want buying DLC or subbing and getting a monthly crown allotment and all future DLC released in the future as long as they keep the sub. If they can keep the quarterly release schedule then I'm going to be very happy.

Reading comprehension is not your strong point. I didn't call anyone dumb. I called the idea of paying for content twice dumb. Not the person.
