This is the official feedback thread for the changes for Item Traits. Specific feedback that the team is looking for includes the following:
  • After reviewing the changes we’ve made to item traits, are there any traits that you still don’t find appealing?
  • Were there any traits in particular that you were excited about?
  • Do you have any other general feedback?

Yeah, when I read about changes to traits in the DB announcement, I was hoping that they would have implemented some way of re-crafting existing weapons/armor with new traits.

But now that all these traits are revamped, it is very possible that all your gear will no longer have the ideal traits... Kinda brutal considering all the mats for V16 gear, and the high gold mat prices...

What is going to happen to traits on gear and weapons previously that are legendary? Like, if we don't want that current trait anymore because it's changed from what we initially had.

It seems like Reinforced has been changed to Nirnhoned; for the love of pie, are you kidding me? Do you have any idea how many use this, and now it becomes prohibitively expensive and super lengthy to obtain through research and fighting an obnoxiously rare RNG system for the material, in a deserted, dev-abandoned area with subpar XP and loot? There is no way that whoever thought of this system actually has to change their gear to accommodate the change.

And Divines is scrapped?? That's a HUGE nerf.

Should I resist the urge to scream that I ALWAYS have to completely re-gear every update?

May as well, it does no good.

Edit: It would help if in the patch notes you would say something like Reinforced and Divines still provide the same bonuses, when everything else is listed. Would save us from the freakout while waiting for the patch to load, lol.

I applaud your efforts to finally make something more than divines/sharpened/impen compelling choices.

Let's actually use the PTS process and get this right.
Make Rush of Agony "Monsters only." People should not be consecutively crowd controlled in a PvP setting. Period.

Where are you seeing that? Any trait that is unchanged just isn't listed.

    Edit:
Sturdy: Can it also reduce the amount damage received from blocking with a shield?

    I hope you're right.

Reinforced increases the Armor Value of the item it is modifying only, that is completely different from Increased Physical Resistance which is an overall number.

No, it increases Physical AND spell resistance. The armor value represented on the gear increases, yes, but it applies to both of these modifiers.

Nirnhoned is now a useless trait. At CP160 gold, it grants an additional 146 extra WD/SD. Compare to the 5160 extra penetration from Sharpened.

For a trait that is so difficult to obtain, turning it from BiS to such crap is... disappointing.

I can tell you the resto staff I just made in CP160 (max level) with Powered (Healing Done) increases healing by 3% at white with 1% increments so 7% increased healing at gold.

Some feedback for tool tip consistency. Most of the tool tips say "Increase", but Infused (weapons) says "reduces", Defending and Nirnhoned (weapons) say "Increases", Reinforced (armor) says "Increases", and Well-Fitted (armor) says "Reduces". Can you tell I've worked in editing?

I was surprised to see that Training was so much more effective on armor, with a total possible effect of +77% experience (+88% with shield), and only a possible +9% experience possible with dual wield weapons. For most of the traits it's the other way around, with 1 or 2 weapons balancing an entire set of armor (see Nirnhoned for example).

Thank you for posting this! So, Reinforced and Divines stay the same, but I'm confused about Nirnhoned...

To clarify, since Reinforced effectively increases Physical and Spell resistance too; what is the comparison to Nirnhoned...I assume NH is better?

We really need a way to alter traits (for gear we craft ourselves) and change motif styles.

I just crafted and golded a complete HA Tava's Blessing set in reinforced, every piece with a hakeijo (sp?) for my trials tank. That set cost me something like 700k or 800k to craft. And now we simply change the trait systems. It was bad enough when I wished I could change the motif style of stuff I crafted a DLC ago to play with a new look. Now to have to come up with 680 mats, 32 alloys, 8 wax, 5 kutas, 5 hakeijos, 5 reporas etc all because the trait system was changed...it just sucks. It genuinely erodes any motivation to try new things or experiment.

Not very good way of doing things @ZOS. You should be making it easier for players to experiment and theory craft. That is a large part of what keeps this game interesting.

It looks like the crossover point for Reinforced vs Nirnhoned is 1880 Armor, so Medium chest, and all Heavy except hands and waist are best as Reinforced, anything lighter is best as Nirn. Seems reasonable.

That is good to know. Glad my HA set isn't completely useless. Needing just a new belt and hands is more palpable, tho I still wish there was a way for us to change the traits on stuff we craft (and understandably not on non-crafted items).

After shedding some light on Nirnhoned potential, it's more like a well-rounded trait rather than the best. If you're a dedicated healer then Powered is the trait for you. If you're looking for offensive damage then go with Sharpened. If you want something in between that cover all sides, Nirnhoned is balanced boosting a little bit of everything whether its healing, damage, or absorption shields.

Nirnhoned Two-handed weapon would be 22% increase in base weapon damage vs Sharpened 5160 physical and spell penetration. Hmm, I don't know about you guys, but I would probably go for the Sharpened.

I would be interested to see the exact mathematical comparisons. I am sure @Asayre will have something out soon enough ;)

Nirnhoned is superior when dealing with Shields and lower armor sets most likely...against heavier armor i'm guessing Sharpened is better
