This is the official feedback thread for the 64-bit Client. Specific feedback that the team is looking for includes:
  • If you used the 64-bit client, did you find it worked ok?
  • Did you crash while using this client? If so, how often?
  • Did you notice anything peculiar?
  • Did you run into any issues when using /feedback or /bug?
  • Do you have any other general feedback?

So I just finished patching my new 64 bit client and I go to launch it... nothing happens it just hangs and crashes ... and says wait for client to respond or close client... not a good start ZOS.

This was to be expected. ( Not a sarcastic statement )

Look at other launches of 64bit clients/Mac upstarts and the launch is always troublesome, but quickly remedied.

Will be downloading this on my mac tomorrow for some heavy testing, hopefully these issues will have been sorted.

All right, so I've got a bit of a massively outstanding issue...

I cannot move in game. I can use skills, and turn my character (through light attacking or bashing thin air), but I cannot roll dodge or use wasd or any movement key to move my character around. I have no idea what is going on, or what variables could possibly be involved with that xD. Any help @ZOS_GinaBruno ?

I had that happen too when I first logged in. I tried few things, including mounting and dismounting, remapping keys, etc... eventually I jumped, then was able to move.

FYI: logging into other toons did not have the same issue.

This exactly happened to me to the two characters I tried.

I remapped the keyboard and no movement, left, right, forward or back.

    Other keys worked, spells, etc.

Then I hit the spacebar to jump and voila, I was moving normally.

ps. just logged in again after an hours break and my character would NOT move at all until I hit the space bar again.

Same problem here - could do everything except move. Tried resetting keybinds, toggling on/off controller UI (which, btw PLEASE bring to mac), etc. No change. Then tried the jump trick and it worked like a charm.

But also, startup is suuuuuuuper slow (like, minutes to load character select after initial login) and graphically buggy, attached screenshots for example.

getting to character screen and reloading UI in game is veeery slow, like minutes, 5 or more. The loading logo is also moving at a bad FPS.

Whilst in game it runs very smooth, much smoother than before, but these loading screens seem to be a problem

@Pyr0xyrecuprotite Yeah, PC's 64-bit client is not ready yet, but will be available in a future PTS patch.

The game is spit into 3 parts. launcher and client for the user side and client for the server side. PTS doesn't affect Live.

    iMac 27", late 2013, Core i7 3.5GHz, 32GB RAM, 500 GB PCI SSD, nVidia GTX 780M 4GB VRAM, OS X 10.11.3

64-bit client runs flawlessly in Ultra-High graphics quality settings, no crashes whatsoever even after over two hours of continuously playing in Wayrest (setting up the character template, running around, causing mayhem on a camel) and Orsinium (formerly a very crash-prone area).

Application memory stats after 2:09 hours of runtime:
    Real Mem size: 4,27 GB
    Virtual Mem size: 8,80 GB
    Shared: 46 MB
    Private: 3.05 GB

Regarding OpenGL 4.1, even at a 2560x1440 resolution in full Ultra-High Quality the framerate is decent (25-30 FPS, VSYNC off as usual, no stuttering). Take down Shadow quality to Medium (next to no visible difference) and it goes up to a decent 30-40 FPS in frequented cities -- at maximum visibility range and Ambient Occlusion enabled, that is.

There is, however, a glitch in the "wet ground" shader that shows while it's raining (which is a not-so-rare occurrence in Glenumbra and Stormhaven): it creates a moiré (interference) pattern (at Medium graphics quality settings and above; I guess the shader isn't used at all in Minimum and Low settings).

I did /bug in game, but just putting it here for reference - the client crashed each time I tried to loot, once on a water node, and once on a mob. Also did /bug in game about strange lighting on the terrain about half the time I load in (moving light bars & blocks on the ground and water).

    OS X 10.9.5, late 2013 15" retina macbook pro, 2.3 GHz i7, 16GB

I haven't done too much yet, but I did notice that in-game objects seemed to load faster. In particular, in Rawl the NPC's became visible much more quickly when zoning in, and when I went from one end of the town to the other and back, the NPCs were still there instead of being re-appearing again. The graphics also seemed to be better given the same settings I used on live (except for the noted bugs - I also saw the rain strangeness mentioned by a previous poster).

    MacBook Pro 2015 13", Core i7+ Iris 6100 graphics, 8GB, OSX 10.11.3:

Took me all night to download the pts client, had no issues logging in. I have the cannot move bug til I jump every time I log in. Did not experience any other bugs yet.

I did however test performance, and the 64-bit client on Iris 6100 was giving me the same fps as the live client in the same locations (I went to low pop zones to make sure other players weren't affecting the fps). In Mithral in Kenarthi's roost I was getting about 21-22 fps standing underneath a lamp in the middle of town and looking at the bridge. I logged onto live with the old client and got the same fps. Boot camp on live windows client I was getting 25-26 fps in the same spot, so still about 20 percent faster.

Probably has as much to do with Apple's/Intel's drivers, still disappointing that the performance gap between windows and os x clients hasn't changed on igp.

How do we update to the 64-bit client?

Is it automatic? Yesterday I seem to recall the update did not include this yet.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't realize it was already available for Mac

@pronkg you can use shift+cmd+3 to do a full screen grab, or shift+cmd+4 to select an area of the screen for a screen grab.
Looking for broken things in hopes they may be fixed. I've given up, my game literally works differently from yours.

    Hi pronkg,

Long load times are due to the apple OpenGL shader compiler.

When we moved to OpenGL 4.1 we converted all the shaders to a new shader language GLSL.

It turns out that the Apple compiler is many times slower then the tech we used earlier.

The other issue is that the Mac ESO needs to recompile ALL The shaders every time the game starts up.

We can no longer cache them on disk in a compiled state.

    ESO compiles 500+ shaders.

The shader compiler in OSX 10.9 is the slowest

The shader compiler in 10.10 and 10.11 is much faster. ( possibly x2 )

You could try upgrading to a new version of OS X.

In the mean time we are looking into ways to cut down on when we compile all the shaders.

Doing most of the standard shaders up from leads to LONG load times.

Doing all shaders on demand in the game leads to bad 20 second stutters when the shaders are first used, and that lead easy mobs being able to kill the player.

You can see the trade offs we have to deal with here.

We are trying to find some good middle ground.
