Alright, I'll bite.
1- I don't live with my parents. I have to pay my own rent, bills, food, etc. I don't have an excess of cash to throw at a console that I play literally three games on by buying additional accessories to make a single thing work in a single game.
2- Even if I could afford to buy a bunch of extraneous accessories that really won't get much use, I don't have any convenient place to put it. That means it's going some place out of the way that requires extra effort to get, take to where I'm sitting, then take back when I'm done. I'm not lazy by any means, but I'm not getting up and down and running all over the place for a video game.
3- Due to the previously mentioned issue, I don't have a giant screen television. That means that a chat box, in any form, detracts from my view of the game. As I've also said previously, this is less of an issue on PC due to the fact that it is much easier to manipulate UI elements on screen to adjust it to something that works for you. If implemented, the chat box will either be too small to read, thus rendering it useless, or too big and an annoyance, causing the likelihood of me quitting the game entirely.
I stand by my initial statement, text chat is not practical on a console.
This statement is what should be looked at by ZOS. They only said it would hurt gameplay, but then why are 2 other games with a similar immersion factor for players able to do it nicely and they cannot?Korah_Eaglecry wrote: »4.) DCUO and FFXIV has proven that text chat is practical on console MMOs.

1.) id suggest you dont buy $20 worth of food for that month and get you a kayboard
2.) why wouldnt you just leave it next to the console? it makes no sense to put it somewhere else in another room. there isnt a spot on the floor next to the TV?
3.) the chat box is not gonna be the entire screen, it will more than likely be transparent, and more than likely be minimizable via a button while in the chat box.
1- Yes. Let's forgo eating. Because I've survived this long by putting my gaming habits over my personal health and well being. I guess I won't have to worry about the issue when I'm DEAD.
2- Makes sense. Put it on the floor. Where it's likely to be stepped on. And broken. And require to buy another one. Because throwing money at a problem certainly makes it go away.
3- I'm just going to drop the sarcasm for this one and flat out tell you that I have a 15" screen. The text that's already there is small enough as it is. A text box will be too big and annoying, or too small and worthless. Adding text chat will force me to quit the game. I'm sorry, but that's how it is.
lmao!
1.) missing out on those potato chips or pop isnt gonna kill you for one month for you can buy that cheap keyboard
2.) again why would you put it where it could be stepped on? you live alone as you said put it on the side of the tv on the floor. you act like a keyboard is a giant piece of furniture that will be in the way.
3.) text chat isnt going to replace voice chat, you can still use voice chat, text chat is just an optional choice for those who need it and want it to make the game more enjoyable.

This is the only kind of keyboard they would allow us to use if they let us use text chat. However I don't think its big enough... I was hoping it would be big enough to make it a coop keyboard... but oh well ...

I was using petition as a synonym of resquest/ask for.
Also the mods likely linked your old thread to this one if it mentioned text chat often. They don't actually read over every detail of a thread. They use search engines programmed to show hits on key words. If text chat was key worded and there were multiple hits for it in that thread. It's reasonable sure that is why it was bundle here. I wouldn't go reading that as some sort of sign that a companion app is one the horizon.
Also weren't you complaining about text chat taking away time to develop dlc. You know a companion app would do the same right? Apps likes all systems need regular maintenance. That time could be spent doing other things, like developing dlc for example.

And I apologize if anyone has already said this. Why not implement the ability to make custom emotes?? That way when I want to ask someone in game who doesn't have a mic on if they want to run Fungal Grotto or whatever, I can just type up a custom emote that says it! That would be cool!
Or you know just general things, like when you are in a crafting location and EVERYONE is trying to sell stuff over the mic and it feels like you are in the NY Stock Exchange, would be cool to be able to type out an emote that says you have Iron Ingots to sell or Selling Khajiit Motif for 300G that just pops up over our head. That way if someone sees it, and wants it, they know where you are and can just come over and offer to trade!
I feel there are some emotes missing that were just general things that I would type in the text chat on PC that would be so nice if we could just create our own in a custom emote menu. What do you guys think?
Text-Emotes require the person one is trying to "talk" to have their camera in a certain direction to actually see the text-emote...a textbox is always (when turned on, or open.) viewable by all players in an area/zone.RenhardtESO wrote: »I know the text chat thing is a HUGE debate for console and I am all for it but I thought of a really cool compromise that would make everyone happy! No really I wasnt just saying it for fun.
Please tell me what part of the above detracts in ANY WAY from anyone's experience.
Or would it maybe just improve it?
The non-text people will not answer this becaue it is to logical. They know that it would not create any problems so they just avoid response like this.

Don't worry.
Zos know people in our situation are the actual majority.
I play on the console because I want one hour of game time to equal I hour of game time not.
45 mins of tech support and balancing the keyboard on my lap or straining to sift through the old text chat entries of rp players and page typers to find that guild request.
I need my fun quick and easy.
DCUO and FF:ARR would like a word....KiraTsukasa wrote: »I stand by my initial statement, text chat is not practical on a console.
Duragon_Darko wrote: »NewBlacksmurf wrote: »KiraTsukasa wrote: »KiraTsukasa wrote: »I've played more MMOs than I can remember, and have used nothing but text chat in all of them. With that said, I don't see how text chat would work on consoles. Entering text on Xbox is clunky as all hell, and I realize that that's the best they can do. It takes easily five times longer (possibly even more, I haven't actually timed myself) to enter a screen name or password on Xbox compared to PC. Text chat conversations need to be quick and easy, and that's just not very doable on a console. Also, because you can't easily resize and relocate UI elements like you could on a PC, you're running the risk of the chat box being either too big and obtrusive, or so small that you can't read the text, neither of which will make it useful.
Now, let me make it clear, I'm NOT against text chat. I just don't find the concept of it to be practical on a console.
It may not be practical for you, but there are many people out there such as myself that have keyboards to utilize, they even have special keyboards that plug right into the controller.
See, that doesn't make any sense to me. If I'm going to buy a keyboard, I may as well just play on PC because my PC already has a keyboard.
Well said!
THIS is one part of the issue.
Well commented...another is managing a controller keyboard interaction where two hands are required on one or the other to be most effective...I guess you can half-a$$ it but who wants that experience when it works best on PC.
Also, no one is or has addressed how to scroll, right click, link, etc without a mouse.
I mean, sure they could change the controller key bindings but then you're giving up functionality and you now how to stop to communicate which is the larger issue.
Neverwinter is a good example of this kinda working but the sacrifices made for it to kinda work are overwhelming reasons not to go down that path. May as well be a keyboard and mouse game....which then, it may as well be a PC game.
When you get to a point where you need another controller or device plugged in such as a mouse or keyboard you've crossed over into a "Why the heck is this on console" situation.
Too funny. Well said how? How about the people that only have consoles and not a PC?
And this is not a new concept, gentlemen. People have been using controller and keyboard for DCUO and FFXIV for years now. You scroll with the controller, type when you need to. You guys are making a huge deal out if nothing.
So of I'm on PC and prefer a controller vs a keyboard/mouse, I should just play the console? Because according to you, if I'm on a console and need a keyboard for communication, I should just be playing a PC?!?! Some of you make no sense or don't think before you type.
