This is the point where any item is a potential addition to the crown store. Everything is always more "convenient" when you can acquire it in a few seconds with real money. So take your pick. What "convenience" item would you like next? A stack of any crafting material? All types of armour? Recipe Book? Skill points? 120 champion points? Maxed out character ready for PVP?

    Why even play the game?

Hmm lets think, pay $2 for a motif that costs 200-500 gold in game or spend 10 minutes completing a quest to get 200-500 gold in game. I think I know what I'd do.
How many people shelled out in other pay to win setups as the games sunk so they could "pwn noobs"? Many. Why would that be different here? I knew people in my brief time in Archeage who had dumped hundreds of bucks, a couple even thousands, o they could have the ultimate gear and butcher people for fun until everyone quit after they finally had the concept of pay to win's effect dawn on them. You know that adage... "Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it."
Oh yea because motifs are clearly going to appeal to that p2w crowd. Daedric gear is know to give you the ability to "pwn all noobs."

I'm not saying no one will buy them but to assume that so many people will fork out big bucks for them, resulting in the ruin of the motif economy, is a bit over presumptuous.

Same pattern as every other game that went b2p or f2p. The last sentence of the post you quoted me in says it all :).

So you're saying what? Motifs will eventually lead to a P2W model? Motifs will lead to the downfall of the economy? Motifs will lead to all gear/items/levels/champion points/achievements/sky shards/lore books/alliance points to eventually be sold in the crown shop? All of the above?

So far the only controversial issue that the crown shop has introduced is exp boosters and there are plenty of threads to talk about that if you want. Some people are upset about them, some aren't.

Zenimax said they would not offer p2w items in the crown shop and I'm inclined to take their word for it, until they give me a reason not to. A real reason, not paranoid speculations. If they do introduce things that I don't approve of, and it bothers me enough, I'll just quit. Until that time, I'll continue to support them.

Used this in another thread but it applies here..

I remember when I trusted them as they told me the game would never have a cash shop and would always be subscription based.

They never said there wouldn't be a cash shop. In fact, it was there from the beginning with mounts.

Your post is completely false. There were no mounts in ESO at launch onwards until a couple of months ago finally when the 1.6 patch went live along with the brand new cash store/crown shop, other than those bought with gold in-game (the Imperial Horse which was completely cosmetic as part of the Collector's Edition (imperial edition) and had far worse stats than the other ones in the game was the sole exception).

It's not completely false. If you look back through the threads at all, you'll see people complaining about the $14.99 mount that was there at the beginning, and saying that it heralded the fact that this game was made from the ground up to be b2p.

I'm actually surprised that you didn't know that, and would post such a... derogatory post based in lack of fact, as I've found your posts well researched in general.

It's called the Palamino horse, and up until the crown store was released, it was available for sale in the store on the ESO site.
There never was a cash shop in the game. I think you are thinking of a different game. I also just posted the head of friggin zos saying the very things you claim they never said. If you mean being able to buy that horse or buy the game via digial means well of course you can buy th game digitally.

I never said in game. I just said cash shop. In game has a connotation for marketing and convenience, sure. But a cash shop is a cash shop.

If it isnt in the game it isnt a cash shop. Cash shops work by selling you a currency (crowns) or giving them to you. Then you spend them in the store. Lots of games have DLC you can buy (i.e. skyrim) while they dont have an actual cash shop. Id hardly call one mount a "shop" either.

Motifs is a dumb idea, it takes reward away from the game for those who find them and make good money selling them. Meh is all I can really say to this, more from Zenimax not caring what the customers want in their game.

    Mmm.

Question - To players (not ZoS)
Howcome some players....or a worry growing part want to pay more money to not play the game, which they only play because the subscription is optional?

Zenimax do care what the 1M console players want. Seam not so interested in what PC players think....I guess that's why this thread is big with no reaction from ZoS (Oh, players are concerned?)

1 post from someone regarding the Console Beta, which they are not paying for. Gets instant attention from ZoS! Yay! Free help!

!!K!! I give up. All have different interest how to play. Fine. Where is the fun in this?

I dont know a single person who would pay $40 for a motif. So there will still be a ton of people in the game wiling to buy your motifs. [/quote]

As a trade guild GM, I see one of our big selling items now being available as a cash option.

This will create an impact on guild store sales. As several have said, probably a negligible impact - they ARE pretty expensive.

But..what do we think will happen if they don't sell well (or once sales slow down)? Will we see a price drop? Will we see 50% off sales?

To get an Imperial motif, you're either spending a lot of time farming them or your spending time earning the gold to buy one - now you can just press a button. In this example, it's an expensive button.

But where is this leading? That's my real concern.

Again, this is a concern for me, as part of a guild dedicated to trading. I get why this wouldn't be as important to others.

To those worried about achievements; maybe they won't count. Has anyone managed to check yet? It could be that to get the achievement, you are required to read "Racial Motifs" books, and that "Crown Motifs" don't count.

Possible, but I doubt it. I mean if you have an Imperial character you automatically have the Imperial motif count towards your achievements, so it seems to be based on whether your character has knowledge of a given motif, rather than whether your character uses a specific item.

I apologize if this has already been addressed.

In the crown shop, it says 'Pledge of Mara'

It does not say that there is a ring in the description. It only says that it will bind one player to another. Do the two players get the +10% XP? Are there rings?

I would actually like it if there was no rings because Im not giving up my two Shadow Walker rings just to get 10% XP boost.

Has anyone bought one? Whats the scoop here?

Why is the description so lame lol?

Honestly, I'd be more willing to spend 100K or 200K gold for Imperial or Dwemer motifs than I would be to pay even 15 crowns, let alone 50. Gold isn't real money, and I always seem to have way more of it than I need.

It would be "convenient" to buy all of the rare pvp gear sets, Master weapons, and hard mode raid gear too, by that measure. I mean, you can spend two weeks farming one of those, too! Who cares if someone can spend two weeks farming great gear by paying up instead of farming motifs like you did, right? Slippery slope in the first place and a bad sign to see them already selling valuable in game items that are part of the economy for cash. I'm concerned we may see an Archeage repeat here...

Bro I know you are butthurt over that game, and believe so am I. I LOVED that game. I quit ESO to play that game 100%.
But I spent a lot of my time in AA as a real estate guy and the Hacks ruined it for me (that damn Minti guy). I crafted too, and yes I know how expensive it could get with all the crafting mats being on the cash shop. But in all fairness this game runs a lot better than AA because we do not have 150 million hacks available in this game. I don't necessarily like them either, but I would rather have them here then have them pull the plug on this game.

If it's anything like the imperial edition, both players go to the shrine of Mara while one of them has the pledge. They both get a ring, which is what you need to wear while grouped with your partner to get the plus 10% bonus.

Mmm.. still nothing in the crown store that makes me want to part with the crowns I get as part of the subscription.

I'll hang onto me chips thanks.

Anyone else remembering them also early on saying before they would not have "limited time" items? So, yeah pay to win and limited time items .... Two crown shop promises broken.

I don't remember them promising no limited time items.
What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.
    That's right... Horse.
