They said "Housing feature & QoL improvements":
By wording it like this, it looks like the housing thing is not supposed to be QoL, but beyond that.

And for those who are unfamiliar with that functionality: you do NOT have to publish your house so you can NOT be trolled at whim. You can NOT be locked out of your own house. You CAN control who can interact with lights etc by allocating guilds, or individuals, different permissions under the EHT /housing hub system, so I assume this functionality will be available in the base game improvement.
Wishes
*I'd love more slots, particularly in bigger houses.
*I use master recipe list add on to see what I can make but being able to do so as part of in game functionality would be nice for those who won't/can't use this add on----like a searchable menu or furniture crafting table as suggested.
*I'd like to be able to decon crafted furnishings and get back at least some style mats ( stendarr stamps etc) and furnishing mats (heartwood etc). This would help with storage issues. Housers keep lots of stuff because it's so expensive to make.
*I'd like a polish of early houses and furnishings so they align correctly, windows were windows, and high elf furniture for example doesn't look like it was made by a primary school class
*I'd love a furniture craft bag. I know players who have bought multiple houses to store items. I wonder if this is the reason they won't give us a storage bag?
BUT there are some basic options that don't require the number overall of house slots to increase but would be decent QoL improvements short term.
1.-making all 830 slots usable in whatever way the player chooses rather than being limited by type, which would still limit the data storage issues for the game, but gives us some extra flexibility. When you can't even display all the in game dungeon and trial trophies, or all pets, or all antiquities in one house it's pretty bad. (Made this suggestion multiple times.)
2- even increasing the size of all the storage chests to all being 60 slots would be a welcome start.

I imagine the mistake is not in adding it into games, or even the description that it's highly requested and long anticipated. These things were true for console. It's that it was the highlight of Q3, when most of the game's core PC players already have it.
So, a lot of people anticipated something more universally requested and badly needed.
The popularity contest/voting is a problem. Other than that, it's a great update for console players. But since it is worthless to PC players... it should have NEVER been hyped up as this big mystery housing update for months.
I have been speculating what big feature housing was going to get since January. It was the center of an entire update!
We got to pick the time of day for housing. That was HUGE. Such an amazing update!!! And that was not hyped up like this was.
With the way this was hyped up, we expected update 43 main feature to be something players have been asking for.
- Something to help with item limit issues
- Weapon/armor racks
- Gardening
- 600 slot homes now 700 slots
- 700 slots for outdoor decor, 700 slots for indoor decor. For homes with an instanced building.
- The option to remove pre-existing buildings from our homes
- Being able to buy multiple versions of a home for different decoration ideas
- Weather control
- Choosing the teleport point of entry.
- More water furnishings, like small area water we can add to kitchen sinks or player-made bathtubs
They have been doing roadmaps for a while now, since players asked for that. They haven't been hyping it up for months. They just mentioned that Q3's QOL change was for housing as part of the roadmap. QOL updates are small things. They save the big stuff for the chapter release (Q2) and then the Q4 release.
Last Q3 was the group finder.

To be fair, they actually kinda did really hype it up. Sure the roadmap shows a benign reference. But during the pre-repurchase promotion and preview for Gold Road, and what to look forward to during the Full Year of 10th Annversary Celebrations stream, they really promoted the Q3 housing release with words lke "Big", "Huge", "Exciting", etc.. Which was when the housing community started to get excited. Well before this particular roadmap graphic came about.
And then they followed that up with the Sword Singer's Redoubt giveaway, that was tagged with the sentence "Speaking of spectacular, this house could be hinting at something special! You’ll have to wait and see…"
Then followed that up with the Housing themed Endeavors, and a couple of furnishing giveaways, which was yet more hype that something big was coming.

When was this? Interesting that they might be collaborative on ideas/work.

The 76’s PTS patch notes came out today.
ESO PTS come out monday.
I will keep my thoughts to myself, but do the math.

It’s the same engine.. functionality wise is the same thing.. just UI is different…

But plenty of players said they were happy to sacrifice quantity of updates for a higher quality game. Well, they got that feedback loud and clear.🤷🏿♀️

People still would happily do that but we didn't get quality first time around, nor the second. It was whole bunch of nothing, not what people would describe as quality update.
Say something good, do something merely close to it but not what promised is a company's mantra at this point.
I agree with the overall sentiment this shouldn't be the hype of a whole quarter. But for a totally different reason. I do actually think this is huge as far as Quality of Life features go. So, as a QOL feature, it deserves hype. But QOL should never be the main focus of a quarter. QOL is meant to be the cherry on top, not the whole dessert.

I can’t speak for everyone, and I’m glad that this feature exists for those who will use it, but a big part of why I’m disappointed by the incoming update is that if we’re dropping 2 significant content releases a year (being Q3 Dungeons and a Q4 Zone) why are we getting such a small amount of improvements? They said last year when they announced that Q3 and Q4 will no longer be content releases that dropping content will allow ZOS to make big and meaningful changes, so where are those because I don’t see them?
I understand that they can’t increase furnishing limits because of old gen console hardware issues, but this update wouldn’t have upset anyone if this wasn’t the only QoL change, I.E so you can store furniture easier, made it easier to see furniture plans you don’t own, make furnishing plans across crafting stations more consistent (I shouldn’t have to go to every station to see all the chairs I own.)
We got lots of QoL changes alongside other updates. Curation, Stickerbook, Skill hybridisation - it all came with content releases, If this Housing “feature” was released 3+ years ago it would’ve been considered small enough to be a QoL change alongside the content and not one to base nearly the entire update around.

If you mean F76 and ESO it's not the same engine. F76 is an upgraded version of the F4/Skyrim Creation Engine which in turn was an upgraded version of the F3/FNV/Oblivion Gamebryo Engine.
ESO uses a modified HeroEngine afaik.
Once again, ZOS is "generously giving" players a "feature" they didn't ask for, and ignoring what players actually want. Tales of Tribute and Scribing already followed that path; both are sitting ignored on my account. Now we have this "tour" thing for housing which is basically a ripoff of something you could already do with the EHT addon.

Yeah, very generous to allow me pay the same from previous years for less content 😉
