Balreth Bugged- Cannot Contain Spirit After killing Balreth

If you have made it to Balreth and cannot get the option to seal his spirit, there is a possible workaround that did work for me yesterday! All you need to do is:

1) Get a group of 3+ members who have the quest "The Death of Balreth." Make sure no one has completed it yet, if you have just abandon the quest and get it again from Walks-in-Ashes.

2) The leader of the group should activate the quest by summoning the 2 guardians to open the portal to Balreth. Once the portal is open, make sure the other people in your group can see it. Then the leader should enter the portal first and then followed by the other members.

3) Balreth should appear walking out of the lava, and the group should run over and unleash all their most powerful attacks on him to kill him very quickly. (My group didn't let him walk 2 steps before he was dead.) If you kill him quick enough the quest shouldn't bug for sealing his soul. It seems that the bug occurs if you battle him for too long.

What was your strategy for defeating Balreth? Deal as much damage as possible, when I had low health I choosed to stun him and then I spammed my Strife. When he was running to the lava I continued to hit his back.

It's exactly like DrPopkorne said, he died in the middle close to the thing then the ally dissapeared and it says "contain Balreth Spirit".

Another bug in the area of this quest:
Another issue that happen after third time trying was that when I were going to teleport out of the area that I became invisible and stuck. I tried to use /stuck command. I was teleported and still invisible and stuck.
I tried to go to the character selection and then in again still same issue. I had to close the whole game for it to work again.

Exactly the same happens to me!

When will we get it fixed? It worked in beta....

This still did not work for me and my group. The real question is how it is broken at release and not during beta, and moreover, how is it this can go on for two days now without being fixed?

Bugged for me and I had only just been able to do this quest because Restoring the Guardians was bugged until the server maintenance earlier today.
Solo
Level 12 Nightblade Argonian with Killer's Blade, Poison Arrow, Strife, Silver Bolts and Teleport Strike
I think I focused on Silver Bolts and Strife with Killer's Blade toward the end.

Stuck at "Contain Spirit" and cannot progress.
I tried abandoning the quest and restarting. I tried abandoning the quest, joining a group and restarting (though I'm not entirely positive everyone else in the group did it right). When I did, Balreth appeared, but I still had the "Contain Balreth's Spirit" stage, even though I had abandoned the quest.

I am currently staying away from the game for at least 10 minutes after abandoning the quest once more to see if that fixes anything. Then I'll try to complete it again solo. If that doesn't work, I'll have to redo the abandoning the quest for another 10 or 15 minutes and try it with a group.

Excuse my language but for f***s sakes these steps should not be necessary. So I hope this quest gets fixed before Early Access is over.

I had no problems completing this quest in November or January's beta. This feels like February's beta with all the bugged quests. I don't even recall this issue happening before February (this or the NPC spawning error such as with Restoring the Guardians). This feels like a beta that I paid $60 to join in. >.<

Still broke. Killed him inside of 10 sec. He lays dead with the objective incomplete. And we can't try again because when we dump the quest and go back in, no one is there. It's totally empty. Sigh...

Doesn't work for me in a group.

Playing Sorc using Unstable Clannfear, Winged Twilight, Crystal Fragments. He dies very fast but unable to see the 'hurry touch his prison to contain his spirit'. See absolutely no prison ..

Having the same problem killed him and now im stuck trying to contain his spirit. I had hoped after the down time this would have been fixed but guess not.

BUT -- the server reset did allow me to progress on a couple of quests before they, naturally, stopped working at later stages.

Their scripting code for quests does not always play nicely with their code for phasing and grouping. Or their code for spawn timers.

Such a shame because the phasing/instancing in ESO really sets it apart -- makes it feel like changes really happen in the world.

10+ times, no luck. Came back as level 17 and destroyed him, nothing. I would have long forgotten about this, were it not a crucial story quest.

Yeah, the Phasing really is a good idea, but they need to get their pieces to fit better. This is really an embarrassment.

Naturally, due to the server reset 'clearing' everything. It was the same thing in the two previous betas - quests that were bugged when people logged off in the second-to-last beta, worked immidiately upon loading the last beta, but stopped working again pretty quickly. It will likely be the same thing now, until the megaservers are scrapped in favour of a traditional server arrangement with smaller groups.

I tried dropping the quest and reloging this made him spawn again but now I cant get the item that stops him form going into the lava to heal.

Make sure one group member gets in combat then stands next to the NPC spamming E.

I am having issues with this as well. Even tried to abandon the quest a few times but when taking up the quest once more it starts from where I need to trap his soul and not from the stage where I need to kill him even though he do respawn. Also I can't stun him anymore.

Do hope that a fix will be applied soon

Well i killed him twice now. Each time the event to capture him would not trigger. So now abandoning the quest and relogging has yielded yet a new bug for me. He won't even spawn at all. I enter the portal and he never appears.
About them having "solved" these issues, they applied the patch to the PTS and never really tested the patch. The mass number of players is what breaks the game and the PTS simply didn't have the numbers to even recreate the issues. It was a huge short coming in their beta testing.

Okay, finally beat it, and I was successful due to the workaround mentioned. I just invited 2 random players and made them both abandon the quest if they were at the enter portal stage. Then I summoned Blaze and Ragefinder, I spoke to Malvos, and I was first in the instance. They came in after, and it worked.

Same issue. I was waiting for /help for long enough for him to respawn, mysteriously aggro to where I was behind the shrine, and kill me. Still waiting...

LOL this time it works we can defeat and imprison Balreth but you can't have access to the portal to go back and need to teleport ^^ Should have saved my money for a real game ^^

Tried every single workaround, still bugged.
Better still the Mage seems to disappear as soon as Balreth gets killed now, this is just impossible. I give up, let me know when this completely fixed.

What abilities were you using? Solar Flare, Piercing Javelin sword and shield

What was your strategy for defeating Balreth? Pull him back to the portal to keep him from having easy access to the lava.

Any specific details about how you fought him, or anything that seemed odd during the fight? Nothing odd.

I've defeated him twice but nothing there to contain his spirit.

Wow so I spend $100 and this game is full of bugs ever since i started playing. This one in particular because i killed Balreth twice and can't go any farther.
