Balreth Bugged- Cannot Contain Spirit After killing Balreth

I just don't understand how could you manage to break this quest. I clearly remember doing it without any problems playing last beta test. It seems you fix one quest and break a few more with fixes.
I just hope SOON means 1 or max 2 days and not weeks/monthes. Because I have played a lot of mmos and soon always means wait a few weeks for you, developers.

Would run behind him as he moved from pool to pool using the two abilities above to kill him before he could heal.

Killed him and got to the part to contain his spirit and then the interactive icon doesn't show up, I stand where the compass is directing me to and there is nothing there.

There is a solution to getting past the bug in this quest, firstly you'll need a group of 3 players and then get all of them including yourself to abandon the quest, retake the quest and all enter the portal at roughly the same time, when fighting him do not use the storm amulet and don't loot his body until you have performed the ritual, i took myself and 2 other random players 3 attempts to get this to work (due to try different ways to get it working) lastly if you cannot get him to spawn, get the group to relog.

When I heard people about the quest bug I decided to just ignore this quest and move on. Sometime later when I was about lvl 12 I went there with my Nord friend.

I killed it together with my friend without any problems. The containment worked but after that I spoke with the npc spirit Mavos and he told us to leave. On screen we could see a exit marker as if leaving a town or entering a door but there was nothing there.

We forced ourselfs to teleport to a way shrine to solve the problem and finished the quest.

I hope this might be helpful.

had this happen to me and 3 others so we grouped up went in. he didnt spawn, so we left the instance dropped the quest and restarted it. then went right in. killed him and captured his soul. then the exit portal would not spawn. had to pay gold to get out.

IMO the reason this quest borks is because there are too many people trying to complete it at once and it doesn't reset properly. Players just sit there whinging about it and repeatedly trying to complete it over and over and over. I watched at least 20 or 30 people last night trying to complete it for over an hour instead of just moving on and coming back to it

The reason I come to this conclusion is the same thing happens with the Spectral Slaves and Heal the Villagers (sic) quests. When there are too many people, the quests bug out. When people leave and there aren't that many people, it begins to work

I just managed to finish it using this method :
Make him go near the portal while you fight him, when you managed to get him really low hp, try to stay out of combat and use the portal with Balreth still close to it. Then enter the area again and you should have the NPC fighting with a still almost dead Balreth, if that's the case finish off Balreth and the NPC should still be aggro on him preventing him from vanishing before the soul is contained (i followed the advice to not loot the corpse before the soul is contained, i don't know if that was a factor or not in the success).
You will have to use a wayshrine to leave the area.

Bugged for me first time, looted Badbreth before soul capture. Relogged started again.
Second time killed Badbreth, did not loot contained soul. Bingo. Alas. Portal did not appear(usual story)

Solution: Logged out. Made a nice PBJ Bagel. Ate that. Was yummy. Logged back in after about 15-20mins. Appear next to wayshrine. Completes quest.

After dropping the quest - once I pick it up again, enter the instance - I am again on "contain spirit". Cannot kill it again...

For what ever reason, it worked for me today. Still feels like it's down to luck rather then any particular "trick".

This can be done, but in order to get this work you need to do the following,

Invite people and get a group of more than 4 people.
Ask everybody to Abandon and Retake the quest.
Make all progress until the portal and enter with them.
As you arrive just simply kill Balreth as Fast as you can.

PS:
Don't use the Talisman
Try to avoid Balreth from hitting the priest (npc)
Kill Balreth as fast as you can (He can't regenerate life 2 times)

Just tested solo (as nightblade, using bleeds and siphons) and successfully captured his spirit after defeating him. Around 20th attempt, but first since the 4/2 patch.

So.... yay for stuff and things!

So will this ever get fixed? Just tried the quest a few times again and it still gets stuck on "Imprison Balreth" for me.

actually it was fixed.
i've since done it with 3 characters with no issues.
so if it is bugged now it is either just for you or a brand new bug.
what exactly happens for you? where do you get stuck?

I try it every patch and can't continue the questline. More than half the quest in Cadwell's almanach in this zone are blocked. I issued several tickets but, as usual, nothing solved.
