Disconnecting with an 'Unknown Error' message.

    That would be my guess joe but overload doesnt explain this bug cause it happened in beta with a limited # of players.

    I just had this happen to me twice today. Disconnected randomly with "Unknown Error".

    For the bug started to occur only when more players were added, so server stress definitely has something to do with it. I joined beta in August and started having problems in January.

    Actually, I've been reporting this issue for 3 beta sessions prior. I have been having this issue since I first started beta testing. Canned responses with no help and then only to be closed down. *sighs*

    Now they tell us to contact our ISP who want to know the game's IP address. Which does no good as the game's server is Ping protected. So, useless suggestion is useless.

    By the way, my ISP says it's highly unlikely it is them, even though they cannot ping the server. They said this because of my comment to them on how this is affecting many different players across many different ISPs through out the world. They said, "Since Zenimax says it is a packet issue but yet it is affecting a wide range of users, that this is more likely a coding issue with how their own server is handling packets."

    Bottom line, my ISP says it is not them.

    I did not have this problem in beta. It has just started after second day of headstart and gotten worse since.

    I have had this happen to me since beta. It was never really that bad, maybe twice in a 6 hour play session. Today it started happening to me every 2 minutes or so. I have forwarded the necessary ports for TCP and UDP, reset my modem... Been researching this for hours. Never had this problem with anything else, don't have this problem with anything else, only ESO.

    Interestingly, I have a fairly stable game connection - no problems during Beta, except when the servers crashed on their end. Just had two "unexpected error"s this evening though ... with my son watching a streamed youtube video on the other PC (shared home network). My guess is that the game is simply VERY sensitive to any network lag or sharing. This kind of issue would be magnified greatly in campus or other shared network environments. Difficult for most such people to find a dedicated internet access network link that they can use though.

    I'm having these on Grande Communications cable in South Texas.. I've never had one before the unscheduled maintenance down-time this afternoon. It has gotten more frequent as the evening progressed, even once causing a 5 minute roll-back for my character somehow. I found recent loot missing, options reverted to previous states in my interface, and my character dead in a place I had been earlier. About a dozen "unknown error" disconnections so far today.

    I bet Zenimax has a piece of network/server equipment on the fritz..

    This has absolutely nothing to do with an Error received in the game client, it would simply not allow login, or would cause disconnects.

    The suggestion to run Repair -however- is sound.

    Here's mine to add to the pile.

    I think what some are saying here about it being ESO server's overload problem might be right. Playing around 11:00 pm Central Time I can play for almost an hour, but early afternoon to then, I get kicked anywhere from instantly to about 10 minutes.

    So apparently it has alot to do with how much load is on the servers. I was playing this morning and it ran like a dream and now I cant even log in due to the ''unknown error''

    ZOS fix your servers!

    Well, I was able to play for an hour before I got the error, then it happened again within 10 minutes. The server went down for maintenance shortly afterwards. Hopefully they have found a fix and this maintenance will repair it.

    I had the Unknown Error 6 times today dropped me to the login screen on my 6th drop while I was in BC on the 4th boss I was dropped to my login screen and received another error message after the An Unknown Error Occurred, the other message was The system is currently out of Sync with client please try to login again and when I tried it kept rotating for over 20 mins <Had to do some dishes came back it was still attempting to load>. So I closed it out logged back in and hit play loaded back in but I lost over 2 hours of progression and a level and half, redid everything I had already done up the point of doing BC then the servers go down, Sigh!! can't win.

    This is WORD for WORD what happened to me today! I didn't play much beta, but didn't have this issue when I played. I didn't have any issues like this (minus a v'sync that doesn't work for me) at all until today. Dropped at least 6 times with the same thing you said.

    This never happened to me in weekend beta's nor on the PTS server but I randomly disconnected over 8 times today! Fell through more stairs in this live game than I ever did in the Betas. This is ludicrous!

    My husband and I are on the West Coast, NA server, Comcast cable internet, running thhandme on two brand new rigs with ethernet connections. We played in the last two betas, and this "unknown error" disconnect started happening to us in the very last beta.

    The game just simply becomes unplayable for hours at a time at random times, though it is always in the evening, it seems. It happens to both of us, and usually pretty much simultaneously. We'll be booted due to "unknown error" after MAYBE 3 minutes of playing time; sometimes much less.

    I played all morning (8am to 1 pm) without any issue today (aside from the maintenance boot), but when my husband got home he was unable to play for several hours (between about 5pm-7 pm or so) due to getting kicked every few minutes because of "unknown error".

    We haven't run a trace yet, tthough we did run a ping test (or whatever; he's the more technical one, I just like to play) on Sunday which reported 0 packets dropped on a blazingly fast internet connection.

    I'm fairly certain he's seen this thread, but I will point it out at any rate so that we can also contribute more concrete data to (we hope) an aactual fix. This happened to us in beta, as well, and though we expect some bugs and lagging (and even tolerated the " unknown error" during beta because, hey. It's beta), we certainly didn't anticipate that issue to persist into the actual launch.

    It bums me out, because although my husband is a super MMORPG guy, this is the first game like this I have EVER wanted to play. I love TES world, and was/am super stoked to be able to play it in/with other people finally!!! While it is possible (though unlikely) that this is an issue on our end, it seems to me that there are enough other people out there dealing with a similar issue. II've been monitoring this thread since Sunday, and I just don'tbelieve that the eevidence points to a problem on our end.

    Played Beta and almost non stop ( apart from sleep) since the opening moments of the 5 day early access with no issues at all, and I logged some serious hours in that time. I have not experienced any issues at all until I logged in today after some "maintenance" and I have been getting this "'unknown error' regularly all day. The simple fact that I had not experienced any issues until today proves without a doubt that this is NOT an issue on my end and it cannot be an issue with my ISP. I hope ZOS sorts this out and stops passing the blame as this is not what we are paying for.

    For what it's worth, I had this same problem, I was disconnecting every five minutes or so. I did the repair with no luck but I did manage to get it working when I explicitly set the ESO .exe to trusted. FYI, I use Kaspersky for anti-virus, and it controls the windows firewall settings.

    Well I am 100% convinced it is the servers your end Zenimax. Ran fine all through beta. The odd disconnect, you expect that.

    Played fine yesterday day when the game was quite quiet really. Tried logging in and playing prime time UK time so > 5pm and it was laggy terrible lag and rubber banding before disconnecting with unknown error. All my other apps, games, etc, ran fine.

    Logged on this morning 9am, so quiet time and it runs like a dream like it did yesterday day time.

    So I know it probably pains you to admit it because you promised a lag free launch. I don't think shifting the blame to isp's is at all going to help. Did you not see how many people on other threads complaining of server lag last night?

    I know for a fact that my disconnect issues have nothing to do with time of day or how busy the server is given it works fine using 4g but not at all using broadband. Very disappointing to see the serious problem of many users not being able to play at all, despite paying £70 for the privilege of playing early, is not on the 'known problems' posted by the admins. We should, at the very least, be reimbursed the difference between the Imperial early access game and the retail standard.

    My feeling is we are going to be brushed under the carpet, particularly given the unapologetic and generic responses given by the admins so far. Even if it is something to do with the ISP, we shouldn't have to speak to them to play an off the shelf game. What happened to just buying a game, getting home and being able to play it?

    Having the prob every day in beta and headstart, sometimes all 10-20 Minutes and its really getting to my nerves because i die almost everytime because it kicks me in fight. Its not really Group-Playable like this.

    had this issue every beta was really bad and frequent. but on launch haven't had it once. might be a server load related thing I think. definitely not saying I won get it again though, wouldn't surprise me if it happened again after the maintenance.

    I had this "unknown error" happen only once (earlier today), and when it happened another person in my guild got booted at the exact same time with this "unknown error" as well.

    We live in entirely different parts of the world (I'm Oceanic, he's in the US).

    Same here. I played fine the first few times I logged in but last night I disconnected with this "Unknown Error" message at least every 10 minutes. I wasn't doing anything but running around chopping wood.

    Well, I have been having this issue for awhile, and I finally got fed up and started messing with my equipment instead. I've tried multiple ways, and apparently hooking a cable from my desktop directly to the cable modem has caused the game to no longer randomly disconnect me every 5 minutes. I played for a good 8 hours and 30 minutes yesterday before I actually ever had a disconnect, and that is reasonable in my opinion.

    Just to add in here. I feel like servers beeing loaded definitely have some part in this as I was playing whole morning and getting through loading screens / requesting character load fairly reliably, but now I can't get past requesting character load at all. Been having this problem for the latest betas too. And I have never experiensed similar problems in any online games before.

    My connection is LTE through either my phone or a separate router to same isp and no luck on either one. I'm playing from Finland on the "EU" server.
