I don't care about titles, god knows I have enough of them to find one I like. But losing the skyshards is a game breaker for me. I just want to know if that is going to get fixed or not.

AWA is good aside from the "Earned by" section. It feels like a tacked on thing to appeal to those who honestly will hate AWA no matter what you do. Just remove it or better even add it for each character that achieved <I doubt possible at this point, but that would be nice>.

Actually, if it would somehow magically be possible to track earned by and date for each character, both historically before u33 and going forward, it would address a lot of the concerns and complaints. Even without a pop-up, at least you could go back and check if you got the achievement, if you were trying for it. Then, use that data to fix NPC reactions and other current issues with immersion and... voila! ZOS would have a much happier community.

Most polls and comments made it quite clear that the majority of folks would not and do not hate AwA, but how it was done is the problem for some. So I don't agree that the "earned by" is for people who will hate AwA no matter what. Folks wanted the implementation improved, not removed.

And... on the off chance that this feedback is being monitored and considered (though add me to the list of cynics who thinks if 90 pages didn't trigger a course correction, 3 pages is literally NOTHING), I would just like to add that knowing how much prep work a portion of the community went through to ensure the right characters got the right achievements (quickly finishing things, determining log in order, even deleting alts, etc.)... it would be extremely cruel, now, to remove the "earned by" section. Talk about adding insult to injury. It probably would be the absolute worst thing ZOS could do. If they're looking for a way to show that they absolutely do not care who was upset by this change... this would do it.
My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.

    Hi All,

Thanks to those who have submitted feedback, both positive and negative. We have shared some of this internally already, but we are going through your feedback here to send more detailed feedback to our internal teams.

Those with performance issues, you should be seeing some of that clear up over the next day or so. We will also follow up with any additional guidance for players as the dev team works to address some of the issue mentioned. Thanks, everyone.

Next time I throw stuff in the bin, I'll say "it's being shared internally" as well.

Communication throughout the PTS cycle was a complete disaster (as in, basically nonexistent). I'm not sure why anyone should bother writing anything now. It very obviously doesn't matter.
The new dungeons look amazing, and some things in there are quite fun. But every time I look at the achievements screen, I can't help but think of this deafening silence, and the fun is gone. Even more - I don't even have to look there. Every time I complete something and don't see something pop up, I'm reminded of this absolute failure.

Sure, at some point we all go through the hoops and someone from ZOS will write some blahblah about how something went wrong and about improving communication and other drivel (maybe not regarding this thing here, but surely other opportunities will come), and some people will believe that, and the cycle continues.
    Will it matter?
    No.

Please throw this feedback into the trash... err, "share this internally".

I would love a read-out from ZoS on the performance improvements resulting from trimming the achievements database by maybe 10x (generously).

Mail doesn't update again, I'm crashing like it's 2015, and nothing feels faster nor more responsive. What was the point of borking alt progression?

Each achievement, due to the addition of the "earned by" was actually made to be 1.5x larger in the database. So the absolute maximum reduction in data base size was by a factor of 12. And that's if every player had the maximum of 18 characters. Which they very clearly do not.

I'd bet the average number of characters is probably in the 4-6 range for played accounts (and if you factor in all the "free play week" accounts with 1 or 2 characters (which I'd think is the majority of the 20 million accounts), the average is much less), so the actually database savings is pretty miniscule. Definitely not enough to affect performance drastically :disappointed:

Performance has actually gotten worse for me since the Update. Longer loading screens, weird sound glitches, blacked out graphics at the character selection screen, and so forth. But the weirdest change is now whenever I log out of ESO, Chrome refuses to load, and I have to reboot my computer to get it to work. Thought it was some outlier bug, but it turns out there’s an active thread in the PC tech section. It’s happening to a lot of folks since the patch.

Pretty creepy that ESO is now actively affecting other unrelated programs on my computer.

So far as the dungeons go, within a couple hours of the servers coming up and along with the server issues yesterday, we managed to get the trifectas and finished off the slayer achievements today. Of the two, I concur with most saying Coral Aerie is the more enjoyable of the two, with at least some fresh new mechanic on first boss. Shipwright's Regret is okay, but it's a fairly bland stack and nuke dungeon where you can bypass most mechanics by simply bringing more DPS. We enjoyed optimising out side boss nukes in Coral Aerie, though. Most between 10-15 seconds, bypassing the Shield Guardian's ice/split phase entirely with the DPS being high (in 8 seconds).

The most annoying ones were the slayer achievements, which genuinely took longer than the trifecta achievements.

Ascending_Tide.pngThanks to my group members who participated. As far as I know, we were the first. Not that anyone really cares about dungeons on the competitive side.

I was genuienly surprised by how much some other groups struggled with these dungeons.

One thing I'd like to reiterate from PTS, however, is that extreme damage from things like basic light attacks (Captain Numirril, pre-Live nerf) should not be the "difficulty" factor if you're making mechanics which are engaging. Engaging mechanics will speak for themselves. Likewise with things like health scaling DoTs; looking at you, Nazaray (I actually found the best way to survive there was to go either medium or light armour as tank to help tone down the magic damage from the Bramble DoT). In addition to that, Nazaray is just annoying when it can be in an animation whilst standing in an immunity AoE, which prevents you from moving the boss out.

Please give us more engaging mechanics and stop with the extreme levels of damage or telling us to nuke everything in a couple seconds. You don't make something engaging by endorsing nuke strategies (though I do also understand immunity phases are equally frustrating, and that whirlpool, as much of a novelty as it seems now, will get boring when you introduce the motifs to the dungeon). If you want a HPS requirement, I would suggest looking at what FFXIV does with the "Doom" status. Which you could essentially do by having a Z'Maja Baneful ability and require being healed up to full within a certain duration, otherwise you die to the mechanic. If you went that route, please, please, please set your HPS check to something realistic, but something that the tank alone cannot reach (that is, if you want to endorse the Trinity of tank, healer, and DD).

First boss was interesting, but the sad thing about that fight is we spent more time not actually fighting the boss, but rather killing adds on the platforms to end each phase. This seems a bit wonky if you spend more time dealing with adds than the boss itself just because you can push fast enough. Nuking stuff takes away from the pacing of a fight and removes a need to play mechanics (we didn't have Yaghra bombers).
    whv9dbxz7v6b.png
I've said it before, but this is one of the reasons why vMoL is still well-liked by a lot of people. It has just the right sorts of mechanics, the right amount of punishment for not playing mechanics, and despite power creeping allowing people to wipe the floor with the twins you still generally need to watch your colours or you will wipe (just one example from the trial).

In additiona to this, non-hard mode offers no challenge and misses most of the challenging mechanics. It was quite frankly disappointing to do it on non-hard mode after having done it on hard mode a few times. It seems like you wanted normal to be soloable, veteran to be a step up, and then hard mode to be 56 million miles away from either in terms of difficulty? I don't understand the immense gap in terms of difficulty? You could have tether on regular veteran, but just not be as punishing, for example.

That's it for the dungeons in terms of feedback.

For the Account-wide Achievements... Well, it's a mixed bag.

I'm a fan in general, but I don't like the implementation -- I've said this already a couple times, but the Earned By removes any real desire for someone to change character away from their "main." When I first heard about it, I thought I'd finally be able to try different tank classes in our raid environment instead of being stuck on DK. I was gutted when I saw there was an "Earned By" in the tooltip. Worst of all, my DK wasn't my original main, so I have achievements with non-main names since they were earned earlier. If anything, that simple piece of text being in the tooltip only reinforces using a singular main for any major new achievement.

I was happy to see Honestly-Earned Achievements (addon by silvereyes), but was disappointed when I installed it on Live and saw that it only affects a selection of achievements, so I set about making my own addon to completely remove the Earned By text.

    5tl1a8n1kff5.png

Now it genuinely doesn't matter what character I do it on.

However, as soon as I uninstall the addon, the text is back. Plus, console users wouldn't be able to do this. I said it at the time, this text shouldn't exist. Or it should show all characters who have completed it so that it would retain some level of record for those who want to see which of their characters actually earned it, not just whichever earned it first. I have no reason to play anything but my main for as long as that text exists. It's a lazy implementation, in my opinion, a band-aid solution to appease, but ending up appeasing only a handful.

Performance, didn't notice any significant change. Though obviously on patch day we had long loading times heading into prime time.

Settings not being saved is another annoyance that needs to be fixed as soon as humanly possible.

Last but not least, disappointed that there has been no updates on past bugged Eidetic Memory reports included with this DLC (e.g. Falkfyr's Page 7, or others). I suppose we'll have to wait until the chapter releases, or maybe next year. Or never. Who knows, because there's definitely no communication from ZOS beyond "I'll bring this to the team."

There were some story and NPC interactions that were discovered on the PTS that you can get perma-locked out of if you've already done them because of AWA.

show all characters who have completed it so that it would retain some level of record for those who want to see which of their characters actually earned it, not just whichever earned it first

I really wish this was what they had done, so that we could see a list of characters on the tooltip rather than just one. It's really weird and disorienting to have the achievements for entire quest lines and exploration attributed to a strange amalgamation of characters. If they had just allowed a list to appear on the account wide window, along with the ability to track certain things like fishing, I would have had absolutely no problem with this update other than the various glitches. I want to see it when my characters finish something on the achievement menu. (I don't believe for a minute this was actually about performance due to the analysis others have given concerning how much data achievements actually took up.)

And for those that do not want to see achievement tooltips on the achievement window, they could have implemented a simple tic box on the ui saying "Show/Hide Achievement Tooltips" so that seeing them at all would be optional for those who wanted the "true AWA experience". Also, if the tooltip cannot be seen by others when linking achievements, this would eliminate concerns about that.

I don't see any way around that, unless logging into all your alts would not be enough. I have already logged into my mains so it is too late for me.

Except here's even more dungeons that you need to group for in order to be hustled through them at farming speed and miss half the dialogue you're trying to catch.

Stop giving us yet more "fluff". And by that I mean more dungeons, more re-skinned mobs and more zones that will be just as empty in a years time. ESO is big enough, if you could only encourage people to linger in the remote corners of zones that have been neglected for years. Give fishing a purpose and additional skills/tools. Make rare furnishings craftable from rare materials only found in certain swamps under a full moon. Progress the building of Vivec City! Do SOMETHING that is different and something that will draw the interest of all players.

I'll get this expansion when it's on sale and that's just to complete the set. But after 20 years of playing MMOs, the lack of invention in new ideas and mechanisms is beyond thin.

I understand that not everybody is equally good at soloing. But it seems to me they took the criticism to heart about people being locked out of story content in DLC dungeons. Because they were easy to solo. I died a few times while figuring out mechanics but compared to previous dlc dungeons they were a walk in the park.

On the other hand: it wasn't very clear to me what the stories were supposed to clarify and how they lead up to the chapter. And I took my time reading all the dialogue.

"Quick, hide the pitchforks! The natives are getting restless."

The real tragedy here is, that this whole debacle could've been avoided, if only ZOS would've acknowledged the issues and worries that were brought up on the PTS, before it went live. Before it went live, and caused all those problems that were brought up in that 90+ page mammoth PTS thread. They say that "forewarned is forearmed", but you still have to heed the warning.

Especially since the changes were destructive in nature (i.e. the data is lost.) This can't really be reverted anymore. We are all stuck with this new reality.

I'm lucky in a way, that for me at least this game is salvageable, since I do not care about Achievements themselves, and don't really care about what is written on that tab. If ZOS can decouple world interactions from achievements, provide someway of tracking individual character actions and progress, and restore the content the changes made once per account (Choixth. Adoring Admirer, talking to Verandis, being the ones I've seen reported) then I can continue.

Others however, have been affected by this on far deeper level, and I genuinely feel sorry for them. This should not have taken place the way it did.

People have been deleting characters. I mean, I hope you realize how drastic a move that is. Deleting characters they've quite possible poured hundreds of hours into. This should not have happened.

At this point, I think the best move would be for ZOS to publicly acknowledge the fact that they dropped the ball here. This thing could've been handled a lot better, and it's pretty clear that this was not thought out as thoroughly as it should've been, and it really should've been delayed. I hope that going forward, you folk at ZOS, really take these lessons to heart.

    This is not the way.

I used to be able to proc the EC effect (a fire aura on a foe)with a light attack from a 1H weapon with fire enchantment or both the lightning and ice aura with a crushing wall from an ice staff with Lightning enchantment. What I have found so far since the Ascending Tide Patch was released are these:
    1. Light attack from a melee weapon with element enchantment (Fire /Lightning/ Ice) no longer proc the EC status on foes
    2. Crushing wall from an Ice staff with Lightning Enchantment can only proc an Ice aura on foes, instead of both lightning and ice auras.
I am not sure what is going on.Can use some answers.

They removed the ability for the proc from enchantments to proc the debuff from EC (and others)

It basically will force EC onto classes that have access to elemental damage in their toolkit (along with their stave), and likely removing it from the toolkit of tanks.

    Welcome to Ascending Tide, everyone!

Is there anything we can improve in the future? Let us know in the thread!

Not sure why I’m even still responding, because we know by now that feedback is completely ignored. Maybe I’d be better off talking to a wall.

Anyway… Companies make mistakes, because they are run by people. And that’s fine, we all make mistakes because we’re only humans. What defines people’s opinion of them, in my experience, is how those mistakes are handled.

Rolling out AWA in its current form was, in my opinion, a mistake.

The deafening silence from ZOS after 90+ pages of feedback and numerous new threads since going live is the worst way to deal with it and is seriously harming the reputation of a company that wasn’t that great to begin with.

Several friends have asked me recently if ESO is worth playing and I’ve told them they’re better off spending their money elsewhere. That is the indirect effect of how ZOS “communicates” with their player base, their customers.

I'm not seeing much in the way of communication. And my experience since I joined in November is that ESO is a beautiful game plagued by numerous mechanical issues, poor performance and low engagement from ZOS. It is not encouraging.

I left WoW as my main MMO to try ESO and while I enjoyed myself I struggled to enjoy the combat, but it is something that I can tolerate. But the fiasco with this update, frustration with on-going performance issues and the bleak outlook for the rest of the year have pushed me to the point where I'm nervous about investing any more time or money into this game because it seems that this situation might be indicative of the status quo of ESO.

Even STO, which has a bare-minimum of development going on, is more stable than ESO and it is free.

One of the main reasons why I got involved with the feedback thread in the PTS sub-forum was that the writing was on the wall - AWA was a point of no return.

We're on the 3rd day after patch. ZOS cannot roll it back anymore. They couldn't even if it was just a few minutes after the patch went live.

If there is a roll back people will lose whatever they've achieved since the patch on Monday. Everything from the most sought-after achievements like Emperor and God Slayer, to simple things like finding that plan/recipe we've been wanting for a long time. That wouldn't be fair and would cause even more problems for ZOS.

    _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Unless the game is running two databases in parallel (one that registers everything to the account and another that does it by character), there is no way for the server to recognize what character did what.

Could they had done that? I guess they could, but I saw first hand how sloppily and carelessly AWA was implemented in the PTS. I don't believe that the same team that didn't even bother to check if buying skyshards was working would have the insight to create code to have a backup running in case of problems.

    TL;DR: I lost faith.

A full rollback would not be possible, but it seems to me that there is at least one thing that could be done for Skyshards, Areas of Interest, Delves, World Bosses, Dolmens and other world events (Abyssal Geysers, Harrowstorms).

Firstly: It seems that, for each of the above, there are two boolean on-off variables: "Discovered / Not Discovered" and "Completed / Not Completed".

This leads to weird situations where a thing can be both Completed but still Not Discovered, which is just wrong.

These could productively be replaced on the in-character map, by a three-state CHARACTER-BASED variable, where 0 = "undiscovered" (does not show on map), 1 = "discovered but incomplete" (appears black), 2 = "completed on this character" (appears white).

Since Skyshards are already noted in the Zone Guide on a per-character basis, then Delves, WBs and World Events (Dolmens, Geysers, Harrowstorms) also can.

A quick-and-dirty fix would be to make a fix which runs the following processes, when a CHARACTER logs in for the first time after the fix...

    (1) SKYSHARDS
Since these are already correctly noted on a per-character basis in the Zone Guide, they are already divorced from Achievemets. So: Check through all Skyshards. If they are "Unclaimed" in the Zone Guide, copy this to state 1 on the map, so all undiscovered Skyshards are visible but black. If they are "Claimed", copy this to state 2, so they are either invisible, or visible and white, depending on map filters.

    (2) AREAS OF INTEREST
In the Zone Guide, these are all noted as discovered if ANY character has discovered them, even if THIS character has not discovered them. Therefore, the copying needs to go the other way: from the current map info, to the Zone Guide, of the "discovered" versus "undiscovered" status. If it's not already white on the map, then turn it off in the character-based Zone Guide, so that the specific character needs to rediscover it.

    (3) DELVES, WORLD BOSSES, DOLMENS, HARROWSTORMS, ABYSSAL GEYSERS
All of these are incorrectly marked as "completed" in the Zone Guide, even for characters that have not completed them, if just ONE character has completed it. To restore a per-character completion basis of this, the best that can be done is to check whether they are in fact "Undiscovered" on the map (i.e. not visible at all), and if so, copy this info from the map to the Zone Guide, to un-complete them in the Zone Guide for this specific character.

Characters who have ALREADY discovered (but not actually completed) one of the above, will obviously have it marked as complete on the map now, and thus will have the relevant feature still "complete" in the Zone Guide: but, if it's not yet discovered by that character, it is now at state 0 on the map ("undiscovered") and should convert NOT to state 2 ("completed", appears white) but to state 1 ("discovered but incomplete", appears black), when the specific character discovers it, and will still appear as "not complete" in the Zone Guide. When the specific character completes it, THEN AND ONLY THEN should it turn white on the map, and turn to "complete" in the Zone Guide.

    This way:
    - Achievements would still be account-wide, for the completion of any Delve, World Boss, Dolmen, Harrowstorm, Abyssal Geyser, Area of Interest and Skyshard
    - Zone Guide would be fully divorced from Achievements, and be character-specific rather than account-wide.
    - When a thing turns from state 1 to state 2 in the Zone Guide, the bonus XP for discovery / completion could be restored.
    - MOST of the "character-specific discoveries" would be reverted to the correct state of "not completed on this character" by virtue of having been "not discovered on this character". Those which had been "discovered" before the fix would still be marked as complete even if the character had not done so: but those which were not "discovered" until after the fix would only be marked as "discovered" but NOT as "completed" until the actual character completed them, thanks to divorcing the Zone Guide and the Zone Map from Achievements.

@zos_kevin Can we get an inventory of what feedback's been heard, shared, and discarded? I really don't get the point of asking us for feedback for us to only find out it's ignored. I know it's not your fault personally, but this happens every patch.

At this point can you give players options to delete and reset achievements if they wish? I'm serious. No, really I am. People getting achievement credit on alts they didn't want them on with this mess might want that option. People that hate not having achievements per character might want to redo them again on various alts if they had that option, even though account wide, just to have something to chase and a goal to look forward to. People who hate how achievements broke coherence and immersion might want to delete specific achievements that are causing NPCs to respond incorrectly to alts and quests to not be completed more than once. I'd gladly use such a feature to delete my achievements. That's how much this update made me hate achievements, and I would very seriously delete mine.

This would work. Unfortunately I did not understand that an alt who never crafted beyond the dailies would have enuf motifs to push my account over the top. Now an alt I intend to delete as she is now useless has my top crafting acheevs.

One of the things I was looking forward to was confirmed be in the patch, and it seems like that's not the case.

@ZOS_GinaBruno said this was fixed, and it's not. What happened there?

Llandras was standing across the way from the deposit crates on both PC NA and EU when I crafted on both accounts earlier. When he wasn't dead, I mean....

I’m relieved that the secret bosses for the new dungeons don’t require a mandatory group to access, and that the normal mode dungeons were not scaled to be extremely difficult without a full group. The first boss in Coral Aerie was tricky without a tank, but my partner and I were able to think of a backup plan, which is part of what we love about dungeon DLC.

That was a serious pain point for me and my partner with most of the DLC dungeons in 2021. The bosses were brutal without a tank and healer, and since we couldn't access the secret bosses without more players, we only experienced half the content and got half the loot.

I log in and all the zones look like this on my map. I have no addons and I have been playing since beta the same toon, so I have like 100% map completion. Is this a bug?

    lfh4yfminibh.png

Bugs can often be unpredictable but they almost always trace back to coding mistakes either made by accident (such as a typo) or due to insufficient knowledge/experience of the developer. I am seeing things similar to this map when I play on the PC EU server. I only have one character on PC EU. There are no achievements to flag as completed for other characters since there are none to update. It would seem the database scripting performed with this update was not implemented correctly and likely was not tested by the ZOS team. It’s difficult to have faith and confidence in this game when such sloppy and unforced errors make it to the live server. It’s like the game is running on fumes and no one at ZOS seems to care what the players who spend money on this game think about all of this.
