Why do you use the Group Loot add on?

I use it to make it easier to hand out my own loot to others in the group.
I know some may have more than one reason for using this add on. For those who use it for multiple reasons, please choose the one that is your main objective, or the Other option, and comment.

I use Loot Log so I can do the easy click when someone links their available loot in chat, and so they can whisper me easily if they need something. It also solves issues when more than one person wants something, because the chat shows who asked first.

I know you don't like the spying thing, but I don't ask for anything that's not posted as available, because that's sort of rude. I did once offer someone gold for something that someone didn't link, and they went for it, but I also announced that I was looking for it before we went in (siroria inf staff).

I get where people are coming from when they say it's intrusive, but this addon is very helpful.
I first got it years ago when I was desperately farming vAA for a gold Mending jewellery drop. Over half the people in a PUG would just instantly leave without bothering to share their drops (and would go on to deconning them). Personally, I'd WAY rather give a drop to someone who needs it over selling it for a measly amount of gold to an NPC, and linking loot after content like trials is usually annoying if you've been there for hours and want to get out. Whenever I get an item in this manner I also usually pay the person gold for the trouble and the snooping.

In all this time I've only met 2 people who were a bit impacted by finding out this addon exists, and I understand them because I was too. I just told them what the addon is and they were okay with it. I usually get a "no sorry, I need it" or "sure trade at the end" as an answer and we both go on our merry ways.

Finally, I don't know how much of a problem this is in the US server, but on EU there are many non-English-speaking players who usually won't type a single thing and leave when the dungeon is over. Because why bother trading with people if you're gonna have language barriers with them.

At the end of the day, they can see your drops but are no more entitled to them. If someone whispers you asking nicely for a drop you got just take 5 seconds of your time to answer it. If the answer is no and they throw a tantrum, just ignore them for an hour.

The only change I'd propose is the following:
Make group loot an actual feature, but make it anonymous and tie to it a request feature where the player gets a message requesting the item and you can deny or accept it. If you accept it they can see your name and trade.

Besides my selection, I think it is fun with friends because you can kinda feel like you are playing together even if you aren't. Like..ooh nice drop kind of thing when they are chest farming and you are doing writs. I don't want the drop but it's fun to be included.

when i do a random normal i often see somone asking if anyone dropped susch and such gear and i can quickly look and say no one got it or so and so got it or however the case may be. But then i usu tell them to install it and they seem pleased. I believe sharing is caring, all my little care bears... :)

    I don't use it.

I'm a little weirded out if someone starts talking about my drops before I've even had a chance to see them. I normally just loot the boss and keep going, especially since some people expect the tank to waste all my stam sprinting from boss to boss without regard for the fact that I might need to use my block button at some point. I don't check to see what loot I get, I just 'take all' and done.

At the end, I'll link whatever I don't need, once I've had a second to look through my inventory. I like running with guiildies since we usually will take the time to do that instead of just breaking group and leaving the second the boss dies.

I also don't really want to see what other people get either. I've been in enough groups where I'm the only one who doesn't get a motif, and I don't need to keep seeing how RNG cursed I am. It'll just make me angry.

I turned it off along with other LUI notifications.
I don't really care to know what others got. If they're willing to share the info with the group it's up to them.

I don't use it. If others are willing to part with bits they'll say so if I ask if they have it. It seems more common people using it to pressure others into gimme cause they can say oh I know you have this.

I got it so I could keep track of what loot I was getting more easily. I had it set to only show personal loot.

Now I also use it to keep track of items I need for the sticker book, as you can choose to have that marked.

Doing that turned on seeing what group members get that I don't have yet, but I don't request it if they don't link it in chat at the end of the dungeon/event.

Streamlines lootsharing at the end of a run, as I can simply post the items from the instance once completed. Efficiency matters.

This as well. Typing /lt or /listtrade at the end of the dungeon lists everything you have that's already in your sticker book and makes it easy for others to request it from you.

I don’t use it. It wasn’t until I saw all the discussion here that I even knew such an add-on existed. I’ve also never asked anybody for a drop, except my husband when we compare our items at the end of duoing a dungeon. I’ve played other games where loot drops were identified in the group chat announcements, but in such cases the items were bind on pick-up, so trading was impossible anyway. When someone got an enviable drop, the typical chat response was “Hey, grats, dude.”

Since this game allows the items to be tradable for a while before they’re bound, it seems reasonable to me that group members trade their unwanted loot if someone needs it. But there is certainly no obligation to do so. I’ve given stuff to folks who ask politely, but I’m unlikely to ask myself because it’s just not my personality to ask people for stuff.

I could see an organized guild using the addon to streamline progression. But I only play with a few close friends/family so I don't think we need it.

    I don't use it.

I enjoy the surprise of finding the drops for myself without spoilers, that's part of the game's fun (and frustration!) for me. I don't need nor want to know what others got and I know its use annoys some non-using players while some that use it can be annoying.

Like others, I have experienced the much 'darker' side of this add-on's abuse from some players: some openly hostile, aggressive and childish, some disgracefully disingenuous and manipulative and others simply rude and demanding.

When running purely random group events I generally go into off-line mode to limit potential spoiler/childish whispers. Anyone who states in group chat "LF x-item" will get it unless I need it. I usually list unneeded items in group chat at the end.

Given the amount of contention this add-on seems to generate which, to me, seems analogous to that engendered by miat's add-on, it would seem prudent on zos's part to include an opt-out for players. Then those who are uncomfortable with it for whatever reasons could opt-out while those who have no issue with it can continue to use it. For those add-on fans who might be put out by the idea that this would reduce their chance of snagging that much-desired item consider that anyone using such an opt-out, judging by some of the commentary, would be unlikely to hand out those items if pre-emptively asked anyway.

That's actually where I use it the most. There's a lot more trading that goes on within groups of friends, and Loot Log makes that so much easier and faster.

I don't use this and would never virtually peek into others loot. I have experienced the dark side of loot greed. It takes a lot for me to even step into a dungeon with other players. The one time I did in WoW I did so with my now deceased husband and a guild we belonged too. I never asked for anything and our leader gave me the chance to loot the grand prize which was a weapon that turned your character into a guitar playing skeleton rock star. It was purely a vanity item that was rare. I was so happy my first time in a group dungeon and wow I got a really cool drop. Then some guy newer to the guild started to complain and harrass me to the point that it soured me on doing that activity again. So no I would never want someone to go through that terrible experience. He thought he should have had that item and was mad that it was given to me. That was just one example now I can reasonably assume I am not alone in this type of experience.

I find this type of addon to be intrusive to my privacy as a player. If I want to share I will and it should be my decision alone to share items/ information. I don't have any objection to this program only working for the persons drops who runs it. But it shouldn't be pokeing into my privacy bits and bytes.
