PTS Update 26 - Feedback Thread for Housing & Furnishings

What are your general thoughts on new houses?
Only 2 houses? I was expecting more. Honestly i am disappointed. Don't get me wrong, the new 2 houses are beautiful and everything. But i would like to see ( and probably i'm not the only one) at least 1 medium size House like the ones in Morthal, Nord theme. Better if it is a snowy one. We are plenty of huge empty castles and We dont have a real snowy cottage. Please make it happens ZOS

What do you think of the new furnishings?
Furnishing is very beautiful and i love every piece. Normal furniture and antiquities too. I can say the Solitude style is my favourite on what i've seen till now. I expect more structure items to come. Even the trees you can buy from the merchant are very beautiful, and i was glad too see some trees coming with a little snow on top , we needed some diversity.

This update adds a new way to move furnishings, to make it easier to position furnishings exactly where you want them. If you tried out the new Precision Editing mode:
Was it clear how to manipulate furnishings in this mode?

I was waiting for something like this and finally happened. Thank you. Everything was clear enough in my opinion.

Did you encounter any issues with Precision Editing?
Not for now. Everything was ok.

Did it make it easier for you to decorate the way you wanted to?
    Yes.

Do you have any other general feedback?
Yes and no. Team, can i speak to you Honestly? Morthal is the best place i've ever seen in a game. And probably will be for a long time because it is really amazing, beautiful in every single way you can look at it. Why build something so beautiful and then do not give to us a small piece of it? o:) Please o:)

IMO the Vampire Castle is in the wrong spot, why would a Vampire who is an enemy of the Gray Host want to live right next to their keep?

Can we talk about the fact that there is yet again 3 new craftable sets (12 new slots) and still no added furnishing slots? Or special slots for attunables? Unless I missed something of course, but constantly adding more settings and not doing anything about the furnishing space is hurting us guildhalls. I have literally been tearing apart my house piece by piece since murkmire to fit more tables. We need more slots already or special slots for attunables please

Hi :) I encountered some weird bugs in Proudspire last night. I don't know if the bug is with the house itself, or the housing editor as I haven't tried in any other homes, but it is very similar to the bug that was in the Psijiic Villa when it was first on the PTS (which also may have been just the housing editor in general, I have no idea).

Basically, I decorated the basement and all was fine, aside from another rather annoying new bug which makes it much harder to select items. I sometimes had to select an item 5 or 6 times before it became movable. I then moved to the top floor, but each time I placed a new item (although most items from my inventory wouldn't place at all, only crown store ones were guaranteed to work) I would put the item down and an item below in the basement would appear below it, on the third floor of the house, like a magnet. I had not used item linking or anything like that.

This was obviously very frustrating, as it took so long to place everything in the basement and now it's all over my house! I think the most worrying thing of all is that sometimes the new item placed would just vanish from the house and my inventory! That could cause lots of issues if it were to happen on the live servers... Some items were also unmovable at times because, the game told me, another player was moving it. It was like being in a haunted house :joy:

Also, another little comment, Proudspire has an unmovable nightstand in the hallway. I hope that this isn't fixed in the house because it means that we are unable to do anything there.

I have returned to the PTS this morning, and the bug is worse, if possible! Items swapping about whenever I place them, and another bug that might cause problems when this goes live, items in my inventory aren't just vanishing but sometimes are doubling too. If I continue to place an item after things move by themselves through floors and rooms, I can continue placing that item but it stays in my bag, so I can essentially have an unlimited amount of any item I please. I think this could cause issues on live :joy:

I just tested this out in Mathiisen and there doesn't seem to be any kind of bug there, only Proudspire.

I've also checked with others, and weirdly, those who use a controller rather than mouse and keyboard don't seem to have this issue.

Just some feedback on the PTS Furnishings:

    Basis of Loss:
    - This item is too large, the edge of the basin comes to eye height on most characters and sinking it into the floor renders it non-intractable. Recommend it is reduced to 50% of its current size, or at least 50% of its current height.

    Vampire Thrall Target Dummy:
    - Having to feed from this a significant distance away , and from its rear arc renders placing problematic for most medium homes, recommend the rear arc feeding rules be changed for this as otherwise you have to have this unsightly minion smack in the middle of the largest room on your domicile.

I would just like to comment on the new paintings. Only two (vampire-style) paintings are large. All the others, especially those of Solitude, are medium or small size. It would be really nice if some of these paintings were enlarged.
There should be at least 2 or 3 large "Solitude" style paintings. Please :)

What are your general thoughts on new houses?

I love Proudspire Manor and especially the fact that we can buy it for gold! Thank you so much!

Bastion Sanguinaris is beautiful, but it is far too big for me. I can't imagine how to decorate such a large space. It intimidates me and it also makes me a little clostrophobic, because it's dark and underground.

What do you think of the new furnishings?

Overall I am very happy. The new dishes, the bread, the round mirrors, the beds with the furs are magnificent!

Basic Solitude furniture is better than Nordic furniture in the base game, but it is true that they are very rustic, maybe a little too much ...

Thank you so much for the furniture filled with water: it would be great to have more furniture like this, with water inside.
We also need a fountain like Alinor Fountain Timeworn, but with a neutral style to make taps. Here is a picture of what I could do to hide the style of Alinor and enjoy the animation and the sound of this item.

    Yes

    No

Did it make it easier for you to decorate the way you wanted to?

Yes, I used the addon "Homestead Item Mover" before, but now I don't need it anymore!
Thank you so much for this Precision mode! <3

Do you have any other general feedback?

    Some bigger paintings please !

I would also have liked structures to construct buildings, as it was the case with Elsweyr and I was quite disappointed not to see any. :'(

The update on housing is excellent!

The Solitude style has alot of items, and the vampiric style is also great.

My issue with the Solitude style is that it does not have enough polished (noble) variants. Most of the furniture is quite worn and jaded. The large mirror should have an unchiped version. I like you included very rustic pieces, the ones we know from Skyrim.

I am wondering where are the building blocks? You know the community is asking for blocks, including other styles, not only the new ones. I am sure many people would like to have the marble floor from Solitude or the stone one we see in the basement of Proudspire.

I was hoping for a Dwemer update for furnishings, given we are (re)visiting Blackreach, where it is full of fascinating dwemer architecture.

The new precision positioning system is great, I also love the new paintings.

Please add building blocks and ...... planters!!!

    Thanks

I had the same bug when I tried to decorate Proudspire with my copied PC NA character. However when I decorated the house with different max level templates characters this glitch didn't happen again.

That is really interesting to know @Margha_Ralmoren thank you! I'll try that out when the pts is back up!<3 I still really hope that they make sure this bug doesn't make it to the live servers though, because it really is a nightmare! :scream:

    • Do you have any other general feedback?
    • Many of the Antiquity furnishings do not currently bind to you as intended when acquired.
Why? Why do you need to bind non-achievement furnishings? Making non-achievement furnishings sellable will make sensible scrying the found lead to the item that is not needed otherwise.

Why would they allow players to sell the items? The point is to sell the Greymoor Expansion. If you want to get the new items, you need to buy the Chapter.

What are your general thoughts on new houses?
Proudspire is very nice! The textures are high rez and really well done! Huge improvement over Elsweyr!

Bastion Sanguinaris is a mixed bag. The recoloured Lunar Cactus things make the outdoor ambience a little too Jode's-Embrace-ey. The house itself feels like the illicit love-child of Wrathhome and Grand Psijic Villa. Item limit seems very low for how many areas the house has. But the layout is interesting.

What do you think of the new furnishings?
Too many basic wood furniture. We got 7 new basic wood benches. But only 2 counters and it's 'Rustic' so we have nothing to match purple Solitude or Vampire kitchens. When choosing which assets to convert into furniture, please prioritise missing furniture types (e.g. counters) and highly requested furniture (structural items), rather than oversaturated repetitive ones (like basic wood benches).

Vampire furniture seem to have an identity crisis and questionable coherence but I guess we're stuck with them now. The lamps are nice at least.

Antiquities furniture - at least some like the Moonlight Mirror - look like they were made by a separate team for a different game. The textures, colours, saturation, or something doesn't really fit with the rest of ESO. Would be nice if they were a bit toned down to be less immersion-breaking.

Other furniture are mostly nice. Light intensity on Vampire Chandelier is excellent, it's great to see you tried the lamp in an actual house of that size to make sure we won't have yet another weak set of lamps for giant halls. Hearth items - breakfast platters, mushroom and onion bowls, are great. More cluster items like that in the future, please.

If you tried out the new Precision Editing mode: Was it clear how to manipulate furnishings in this mode? Did you encounter any issues with Precision Editing? Did it make it easier for you to decorate the way you wanted to?
Nice addition, yes it made lining up things easier. Unsure what 'Straighten' does, I didn't notice anything.

Do you have any other general feedback?
Solitude, Chandelier Horn - light comes from the top of the chain rather than the chandelier, candle flames are misplaced (on the chain) or missing.
    nx2yfgetbh50.png
Bastion Sanguinaris - From inside the first room, the house's door looks like it doesn't reach down to the floor.
    3yavuipji7tg.png
Solitude Sconce, Wrought Iron - candle flame missing. (No screenshot)

Music Box is bound. Antique Maps are achievement based and can be bound. Mythic Items (1-item orange sets) are bound. Those are enough reasons to buy new chapter.

Right now housing is the most neglected and at the same time the most expensive part of the game. Have you tried looking for leads yourself? Now imagine collecting 12 Branches of Falinesti, 6 Sacred Chalices of Ysgramor or 20 Eight-Star Chandeliers to properly decorate existing houses if those items are bound!

It's Skyrim. Logs. Snow. Basement with skeevers? Maybe a stream.. some trout... This is the house I wanted to buy.

Not an Alinorlike vampire dark claustrophobic cave thing. (It looks great btw -just very much not my thing).
Nor do I want a shiny square rock house with no yard. It has no soul.

Neither home feels like Skyrim. No dirt, no peasantry, no cows... def not towering mountains in the backyard.

There should have been a small or medium sized village home which fits the theme of the landscape.

Failing that, some structural stuff so we could build our own in another zone and at least PRETEND it was Skyrim?

I do really love the furnishing items that can be dug up and the every day little items are a great touch.

Did expect a bit more understanding that we wanted Skyrim and not Twilight. That is how the zone was marketed.

    the houses were awesome
I mean really the vampire home being a giant hole in the ground with a random door floating in mid air magnificent (sarcasm)
I loved proudspire manor (not sarcasm)

the new movement system for objects in houses is great very useful and intuitive.

the stain on the solitude furniture is a little too light in shade I know the alinor stuff and vampire is really dark stained but in a very good way but really the solitude furnishings look like something from a yard sale made out of pallets or furniture that you buy with the intention of staining yourself hint hint can we stain our own furniture so I can finally recolor all that green Elsweyr stuff.

    also.
Now that we have troughs filled with water can we maybe move on to getting planters with dirt in them. I don't think that's asking too much I know there is already 1 furnishing that actually is a planter but It also has a ginormous naked lady statue in the middle of it (not that I'm complaining) we could use more of them. The planters that is with or without naked ladies in them perhaps on a smaller scale so they would fit in homes. Failing that more naked lady statues to have something to look at in lieu of planters full of flowers. OK basically I'm saying I don't mind the naked ladies hint hint but what I'd really like is dirt planters for interior and exterior.

I'm on PC (mouse and keyboard) and I haven't experienced these issues decorating my Proudspire house. I did buy the home furnished however I've replaced some rugs upstairs and I've added food items and other knick knacks on all the floors without issue. I do not have any add-ons enabled on PTS and I don't use the housing one that some do.

Just wanted to throw this out there so they can try to pinpoint the issues you are both experiencing.

@carly out of curiosity, how many items have you placed in your home? was it 300 or less?
I only noticed the issue when I went over 300 items. Another person I spoke to that decorated Proudspire did not have ESO+ so didn't go over 300 items and didn't have any issues
@Elara_Northwind can you recall if you had the issue right from the start when you started decorating or whether it got progressively worse as more items were added?

I had to abandon building and testing at Proudspire because this bug just got ridiculous. I had no issues before 6.0.1. There is a serious bug at Proudspire that causes items to move and/or disappear.
@ZOS_JessicaFolsom @ZOS_CullenLee could you guys let us know that you are seeing this please?

To ZOS, I would be happy to make a video showing these random placement bugs but have no intention of spending hours putting it together if I don't think that anybody there is going to acknowledge this or even watch it.

Actually, I can just link Elara's video. It's exactly the same issues i'm seeing.

Less than 300. Once I'm done work, I will log into PTS and try adding more items to see if I can reproduce your issue. I'll let you know the results.

I tried but failed to reproduce the bug. I did go to almost 400 items and nothing. I'm sorry, I was hoping it would work so they could find a solution for you both. I will log in again later just to see if anything moved..on the off chance it takes logging out and back in to trigger it.

    Hey all,

In the new teaser for antiquities we can see this :

    gxzzr99yz25b.png

    cnrgzodc6hi7.png

Have you seen it anywhere in the new furniture ? I don't :/

It could have been a superb addition to the achievement vendor in Solitude or in the new blueprint for Rolis Hlaalu <3

Hope to see it soon or it will be a missed opportunity...

Some feedback regarding the precision editing mode:

I spent hours on the PTS building a large construction which I plan to rebuild on live, so I can say that the new features are very good.

The new editing feature still lacks item snaping, so, for example, when you are building a fence wall made of Alinor marble fences, you would want the item placer to connect the two pieces at the edge.

Also, it would be great to have some sort of grid alignment setting, so you could avoid having items placed at fraction of angles or off by a few pixels. If I want furniture to be paralel with the walls or perpedincular, I should be able to set/use a reference. A lot of time is wasted by correcting pieces that are in odd angles. The new system offers 0.05 / 1 / 15 degrees increments, however you can have something at 180.17 degrees, which you cannot correct using the fine precision, you will still have 180.02 degrees in the end (trust me, it matters when you are building walls or long structures). The EHT add-on allows you to correct angles manually. Most of the times this is not needed, but if you are creating a building, say on empty land, you want your walls straight and seamlessly connected.

The last suggestion for a future -but I hope not far away- update, is a flying mode for editing. Some of the new houses are very large, with vast open spaces which allow for all sorts of constructions. If you want to build high in the air or somewhere hard to reach, you still need to place ladders or ramps to get there and place the items carefully. So, I imagine a ghost/hawk mode that leaves your char on the ground, and allows the player to freely move in the air in order to build more easily and not worry about falling, then wasting time getting back up, sometimes rebuilding a ladder or something annoying like that.

The housing update does not include so far the much expected building blocks, which housing enthusiasts love to have in great variety and shapes. I hope this is not going to be neglected!

Hi @Zypheran !! Bit late here because I haven't checked the forums in a couple of days, but for me I don't really recall how many items I had placed before I encountered this bug. It wasn't for a while though so I think maybe you might be onto something with the 300 item thing! Whatever the reason, it is highly annoying, and after speaking to people about it, I found that one person, on ps4, has encountered this bug on live also! But several of us on PC have had this issue now on pts, and it would be in ZOS's best interest to fix it asap before live because not only will it destroy peoples homes but we are able to duplicate items in our inventory with this bug... I'm not sure if there is a link there? We are placing items and the game thinks we have placed them already and is getting rid somehow? Who knows... But its a pain, nonetheless!

Some additions to what I've previously posted, now that I've had time to explore more of it:

What do you think of the new furnishings?
I like quite a few of the new furnishings, including the snowy trees and achievement furnishings. I know I'll use the throne for sure, and I love the boat.
However, 250k for a single boat seems EXTREMELY steep and unless I'm somehow mistaken, that makes it now the most expensive achievement furnishing for any zone in-game, with its only competition for price being a much, much larger Lux furnishing item (the Alinor Windmill). I would have expected 100k at most, especially given the size of the boat. If this were more the size of a proper longship or the frigate-like ship in the Aldmeri Grotto house, I could see a price tag of 250k, but its not. In fact its rather small for something that costs that much.
Its especially surprising because we have MUCH fancier achievement furnishings that go for much cheaper (such as the magic dragon doors from completing Sunspire that have 3 separate activation states). Please reconsider making the boats cost that much. 100k still seems expensive but reasonably so to me. 250k is just insane for what you get, especially for those who might want to get multiples.

As for the furnishings from the Antiquities system, I like a great many of them! Some are surprisingly niche, to a point I wonder if some are lore-friendly, but I'm not exactly complaining about this either (mainly because quite a few of them fill a niche that appeals a great deal to me). As I understand, new antiquities will be introduced over time, so I look forward to seeing what we get in the future as well!

Was it clear how to manipulate furnishings in Precision mode? Did it make it easier for you to decorate the way you wanted to?

Yes! This was a very much needed addition to the base game. I know of and use EHT at times for similar needs, but I personally find Precision mode to be more user-friendly in many ways than EHT is. While I haven't used it extensively, I have used it enough to know that this function is already going to make my life with editing houses infinitely easier than trying to manually finagle pieces into the exact place I need them to be.
