Is it a last minute decision? There were alliance banner emotes in the collectible section with the description they'd be created by putting together ten pieces and so on...
They could have chosen a better event to replace it.

I don't know. I can't even find that they officially "announced" this decision. It was found as a comment by ZOS on their own thread regarding the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild event.

They rather shut down the game instead of pumping like 1M for bugfixes into it?

They won't fix anything though...... I bet if this was a pve event where people got double trial drops, or anything like that it would be hell on Earth. But let's cancel the PvP event 6 days before the event and do another pve event instead of it....... There is no reason for this the entire game is running like crap, not just PvP. Load screens in towns/dungeons lag all over the place. It makes zero sense to cancel this event, if they are working on the fix (been 5 years since some of these issues have existed btw) why not just run the event and ignore any bad feedback since you are working on a "fix".

Well first of all... getting into Cyrodiil requires nothing but the base game. DB and Thieves requires either Plus or buying DLC. Both of which a lot of users don't have. What does this mean for ZoS? Well two things.

Probably less server strain, because the people who can't play DB/Thieves won't be jumping to get on and run content just for the event all day. So slightly less bad performance.

And secondly, it will sell Plus memberships and DB/Thieves content to their mass influx of new players who haven't touched the DLCs yet because they're still trying out other parts of the game. So there's a bigger monetary incentive to do it this way, on top of not having people endlessly complain they can't get into PvP because its broken.

Also they did have Midyear Mayhem this year. They just had it in... January? Instead of July. It still happened, you just got your double AP early.

It was also said higher up, but Cyro would get flooded with PvE'ers who just want their tickets. They're not there for PvP. Know what happens when you go into Cyro not geared for PvP? People get mad at you. I can't even go into Cyro to fulfill treasure maps solo and if someone spontaneously comes along and tries to pull me into a group, "omg why are you so terrible? Why am I doing more damage than you? Why do you die so much? Why don't you have siege equipment to help out?" etc etc. All this, mind you, when I TELL THEM up-front before invite I'm not geared for Cyro and just came for treasure maps.

Now imagine throngs of PvE newbies making up your groups. Guarantee there'll be raging at all those PvE people who just came for their tickets. So there'll be raging either way.

A lot of changes to the game over the past few months, if not the year, have largely swung towards favoring PvP playstyle, even to the point of outright breaking some PvE "niche" playstyles entirely without the slightest sign or word those playstyles will ever be restored, when those playstyles weren't even broken to begin with.

Funny though those people are told "shut up and adapt" when we have something permanently taken away but when ZoS goes "whoa this actually broken thing needs to be fixed, so we're gonna do that", suddenly ZoS clearly just hates PvPers and its all about PvE :D

Will they fix it? We'll see but at least its being addressed. I doubt it'll be fixed but it'll probably at least be improved so its not As Bad As It Was. No event or broken event, people would still be complaining that ZoS "can't do anything right". At least maybe they'll get some "wow thanks for making this better" later if they legitimately improve it Instead of "wow you gave us all an event we can't play, thanks I hate it". If.

Bro wtf are you white knighting for? Didn't we just have it in January? No it was never said in January that we get it in January instead of now. Didn't we just have dark brotherhood 3 months ago?

If they are doing it as a marketing ploy then they are bigger idiots because those zones are garbage lol.

Idc if pve players cry on the forum about not getting into cyrodil and feeling left out or whatever, 90%+ is pve content on this game, PvP players should get more out of this. Double ap is equivalent to double loot drops to a pve player.

It isn't our fault they haven't changed out the hampsters running the server in 5 years, it isn't our fault they released a class that is buggy and not working right but instead focused everything on nightblade during pts cycle, it's not our fault that zos can't get something right that was run better in 2005 (queing system), so we get punished because zos can't fix stuff?

Please go kick rocks instead of defending them. You do realize PvP players sub too right? What do you think a lot of PvP players are going to do? Maybe unsubscribe? So you lose subs to possibly gain some subs? Counterproductive, but guess as long as people like you continue to defend and applaud zos idiotic lying and business model, the game will run right into the ground. (Btw won't be fixed till next year? Lololol maybe we should check back next year to see what new hampsters can do to this terrible lagfest of a game since day 1 lol)

What are you even rambling about. You're trying to make this a PvEr vs PvPer issue. Fact of the matter is, is that that they have been dealing with a laggy cyrodiil for years. At least the AP/Golden vendor releases would be something they get while still being in that lagfest. You can blame them for nerfs if you'd like, that still doesn't warrant the one event they have to be cancelled while PvE has tons throughout the year. By this logic they should cancel the Undaunted event as it destroyed DF last time around.

They've had YEARS to address these issues. This recycled event happened literally in March. Basically you're saying screw the long time players in general and cater to the new players. I'm sure that will improve the longevity of the game. HW/GC is going to be extremely laggy due to the event, if you think it won't I don't know what to tell you.

You're giving them far too much credit. They knew the release of MM would muck up the rest of the spaghetti code, and they did this to avoid a large mess. This isn't calculated to sell subs to the new players. If so why did they put resources into making a new motif for MM 2019? That doesn't add up.

Can you not craft impenetrable gear? I don't consider myself a PvPer by any stretch of the word. But you not even doing the bare minimum of having a PvP set is on you, and you deserve what you get in that regard. I don't go into PvE with full impen, and not expect to get yelled at. As far as new players go, I've made a few impen sets for when I've seen people struggling. I help where I can. But if you aren't new and you're going into a PvP zone with toilet paper for gear on, I don't know what you expect.

you just got in the wrong group...and, judging by your rather lengthy writing - there's a very real chance you may have said something to lead down that particular road of discourse with your group mates - although, there are differently weird folks in both cyrodilil and the rest of tamriel...

if anyone asks you why you are or are not doing x y or z while happily zerging along with others - just tell them you getting high, or, high af at the moment...

most folks in cyrdodiil (especially those within the dominion forces) usually can relate to that...

Or to make a comparison: Guess some football fans would be angry too when Superbowl was cancelled 6 days in advance due to problems with the stadion, despite these problems being known far in advance. I'd still not tell them to try and find a new religion. ;)

I assume the second legion motif will be buried in the sand, like other dataminded collectibles?

They probably made the decision recently and with haste, by choosing the most tedious dailies (IMO) in the game in hope that it can be a working alternative for the event. However, it saddens me that they probably dismiss the fact that the lag back in March in the zones was vehemently bad for many players.

Anyway, this is some dissapointing news and it makes me regret not to participate the pvp event back in January.

I am guessing they did it because they make more money from selling those dlcs than from the PvP players. Also, the PVE players blow up the forums about how mean we are in PvP to them. There has been lag since Imperial City was released. They even scheduled a week of Double ap for us a few years ago so they could test their servers. After Elswehy was released, the lag in PVP has increased as well as weird bugs I had to experienced until very recently. Broken code on top of broken code won’t fix anything. The need to spend the money to hire somebody who can actually fix the game.

All these questers crammed into a small zone incomparable to the size of cyrodiil. I can just imagine the massive lag and numerous disconnects..... Yet pvp gets a cancelled event. These developers are supposed to have degrees in computer designing, physics and coding and still cant fix zone issues after 5 years, but they sure do know how to add more problems to the game.

Ill give zos credit for one thing, atleast their cash grab crown store is working fine!

I understand why they cancelled it.

    I'm still disappointed.

ZOS has known about the Groupfinder problems for 2 years now. They've known the BG queue problem has been getting worse for more than 6 months.

This was preventable, if ZOS had started working on fixing the problems earlier.

So while I'm eternally hopeful that ZOS will actually fix the issues...

I'm disappointed that ZOS' answer is again to take away game functionality from players until an indeterminate time when it gets fixed.

Im not going to hold my breath they fix anything at this point. Their approach to fixes so far has been band-aids on gaping wounds. Theyve known far longer than the most recent year of issues that something needed to be fixed. And they chose to put it off until it was spreading far beyond the confines of PvP.

"IF" it fixes the issue's by all means I'm all for it, however if it DOES NOT! I'm done with paying money to play this game.

So you are going to pay them a year's worth of ESO+ for them to fix something that should have been fixed 5 years ago? Or 4? Maybe 3? Possibly 2? Or how about 1? Hmmmm they make money off people like you where they make false promises and never follow through

No they dont make money off people like me, I'm a day one player and I rather the performance be worked on before they attempt to add anything else in the game. Because it runs like dog *** and they need to focus on performance.

Bro wtf are you white knighting for? Didn't we just have it in January? No it was never said in January that we get it in January instead of now. Didn't we just have dark brotherhood 3 months ago?

I didn't know having a perspective on the situation that isn't overtly inflammatory was automatically white knighting lol

It wasn't in their plans to not have Midyear Mayhem this year, I'm sure. Plans change, things don't go how they thought they would. Do you have a crystal ball that tells the future? I don't. Pretty sure ZoS doesn't either. While it CAN be said "this could have been avoided if [insert Y during X timeframe]--", there's a famous saying Hindsight is 20/20.

Someone probably had a grand plan "WE'RE GONNA CRANK OUT AND FIX [A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N--]" on things they wanted to do and they only managed to crank out [A, B, F, G, H, J, L, N] and maybe patching [E and I] while still meeting deadlines while the rest of what they wanted to do are either put on the back burner or scrapped completely for business expediency. That's not actually all that unusual in the production process of any creative medium, especially in such a cutthroat industry that demands... well, a lot. I'm not gonna go on a tangent about that. I trust you can do your own homework. Does that make it right? Nope. Didn't say that. But the gaming industry has learned they can get away with doing it and still make money.

As for the issue of the queue for the event, ZoS is (allegedly) not just patching the queue like in the past. They're coding something fresh, which will take time, effort, and most of all and most importantly to ZoS, money. IF they do a proper job with it, with the time they're taking to do it -- if, if, if, that's the key word here -- it will be worth the wait, or so goes the theory. Will it actually work better? Eh. We'll see. Maybe. Maybe not. A lot of opinions seem to lean towards Not, but we'll see. Neutral seems like the best ground to stand on until we see how it goes, and what they make might work perfectly as intended on their systems and not on all the millions of user systems they go out to. The fact ZoS is even addressing it as "yes this is definitely broken and yes it needs to be fixed" at least sounds like a step in the right direction, since there's a lot of broken things they remain completely silent on. Does that give them a free pass if it turns out to be another broken mess? Absolutely not. But this is now, and that will be then. We'll see what happens.

There's also the matter that no one at any point is forcing you to pay for their product. If you subbed and spent money on them for the five years the game has been out despite it being broken, knowing and talking about how broken it was but still subscribed and "put up with it", then you played a broken game that whole time and still decided it was worth throwing money at. Your money already cast its vote to ZoS that its good enough. You ragequit? Okay. There's still plenty of other people who will still sub, who have subbed, whose sub has renewed, whatever the case, who will also be here five years from now, who only knew it was broken 10 years before because they heard someone say it was, which is different than experiencing it, which will impact their willingness to keep throwing money at ZoS differently. And that's what a lot of the industry business, in or out of ZoS, counts on.

So if that's the case you can't really claim to not have helped establish that ZoS can make a broken game and still take your money. More than once. And that they can take someone else's money when you've had enough. Because they will. They already are.

And no, its not about "Defending ZoS" specifically, that's simply the reality of the industry as a whole. Game production employees have their visions, game players have their expectations, and business heads have X amount of resource they care to expend towards making it happen, no matter who else wants what else or how much resource it actually takes to accomplish this. This only becomes more true the bigger and more comfortably established the company is, as opposed to a small company or a startup that has more to lose but less people "above" to answer to. Somewhere vision and expectations are broken because of cost.

Can you not craft impenetrable gear? I don't consider myself a PvPer by any stretch of the word. But you not even doing the bare minimum of having a PvP set is on you, and you deserve what you get in that regard.

I don't believe I said it wasn't on me that I'm not geared for it? But also why would I craft a PvP set just to collect one treasure map goodie when I'm not going back for anything else?

Lot of wasted time, effort, and resources for very little gain. If I planned to regular PvP or do a whole dedicated event on it, different story. When I go in just to grab a treasure map mark on the other side of the map, run into some people trying to invite me and say "I'm just here to collect a loot chest and go" and they act like it doesn't matter and want you to group with them anyway because they really want more help... that's on them at THAT point. I warned them lol

But that's beside the point I'm making. The actual point of it is there's gonna be a lot of PvE people who don't even know there's a difference jumping headlong into PvP, not only making the lag worse, but filling up the slots for the people who are actually there to JUST do PvP. Because PvP is their thing.

So you get a broken event, with broken queues, with a flood of people who normally avoid the war zone and have no idea what they're doing, who came in only to jump through a hoop to get a ticket in a zone they're not actually prepared to do, which by extension means they're probably going to spend longer there trying to fulfill whatever quota is required to get the event prizes. You can say "well that's on them" but its the PvPers who get shorted their spot and their event for non-PvPers no matter how you slice it.

Mind you, I'm not saying "there should be no PvP event", because I feel like that's what's been interpreted.

I'm saying an event that forces PvEers into PvP spaces through a long-known broken queue system just to get tickets would not be the smartest move on ZoS's part, and giving non-PvPers ANY encouragement to further flood and break the queues isn't exactly wise either. Its not like they're locking everyone out of Cyro and BGs completely and saying "no one gets to go to the war zone until we fix it", they're just not encouraging an already bad problem to become worse by making it an attractive place to be for those who otherwise wouldn't even glance at it ;)

you just got in the wrong group...and, judging by your rather lengthy writing - there's a very real chance you may have said something to lead down that particular road of discourse with your group mates - although, there are differently weird folks in both cyrodilil and the rest of tamriel...

Its usually smaller groups that are just desperate to have more people then wonder why the rando in PvE gear they picked up digging up loot or running a basic Scout mission for a reward box and not to actually fight anyone isn't carrying demolishing keeps and zergs for them :D

As for my writing length I just write a lot as my default, and this is a discussion forum. As I tell most people I deal with regularly, "I can't shorthand for ***".

Besides, too hard to simultaneously type and kill people for that to be it :D
(really I'm just honest about when I know I'm not equipped to do what they want, but apparently no one takes my warnings seriously because they're somehow always surprised when exactly what I said would happen, happens. Maybe they're all just blinded by my username?? lol)
