I was about to not buy Elsywer until they removed skyshard purchases, but now that I know how much money IRL it costs to max out shards on a new character without exploring I can accept this change.
The main problem I had with buying skyshards is it ruins non-endgame PvP for all new players who haven't previously discovered skyshards on their main. If the skyshard packs were cheap then all PvP would be filled with experienced players gaping all new players. Not only, in general, are the more experienced better at the subtle mechanics of combat, but now they have a boatload more skills and passives than you. This alone would turn off new players to go back to whatever MMORPG they were playing before if PvP is a primary intent of the player.

it's been a few days and i bought a few packs so here's my thoughts.
1) nobody every at any point forced you to spend any money. Don't kid yourself.
2) Grinding skyshards has been easier than ever before; addons, one tamriel,, content being ez pz and soloable, etc. It's seriously not even that bad of a grind. "they just monotized it because they know people don't like doing pointless grinds" okay
a. yeah people don't like doing it. so now they get to pay if they don't want to do it.
b. EVERYTHING is a pointless grind if you whine hard enough, and trust me most of these people are. first it's 1-50 is a pointless grind, then skyshards, then trials, then gear, then dungeons, then pvp, then literally all content is a pointless grind because surprise surprise people are still blind to the reality that all consumable content was designed to be done once, and then if you really get addicted to it you're kinda screwed and forced to do stuff you'e already done. that's how video games - no, all entertainment has always been, since history. Now that we have more options and can pay out of it people feel like they're being forced to because they just don't like to do the same things a few times.
c. if you want to remove skyshards fine, but you're ruining the game. full stop. ruined.
3) maybe, just maybe- hear me out here- you're not expected to buy ALL the skyshard packs.
be real with me here. How often do you grind *EVERY SINGLE SKYSHARD IN THE GAME* on an alt? On my main who has all crafting i did it and she still has 20 extra skill points, even with guilds/crafting/class/weapon/armor skills. you don't need EVERY skill point in the game on EVERY alt. Stop making it sound worse than it is. If you're making an alt you don't need any crafting, you can skip some skills you know you won't use, and you can just grind the rest of the skyshards if you buy some. Literally. I don't know why people see this as an all-or-nothing deal. You can buy just one pack of shards for a zone you hate and get 6 skill points. that's sure as hell what i did. I don't like grinding greenshade and grahtwood because there's never any guildies there to tp to and they're hard to navigate. So i just bought them. now i don't have to grind them. *Gasp* What?! i didn't spend 200$ to buy a ludicrous amount of skill points i don't need on a level 5 character? How on earth did I do that?!?!!? What do you mean you can just buy one zone and then grind the rest later? impossible!
4) given the logic i set up remaining true for pretty much every "grind" in the game (psijic, mages, etc) i wouldn't be surprised if they made those buyable as well. and guess what? i might buy them. If you don't have the self control or budget to buy these things then literally just do not do it. I know our generation was raised to buy everything they want on a whim because we were restrained from things being bought for us as kids and not having any of our needs met so we overcompensate, but seriously just don't. just don't do it if you don't want to spend the money, nobody forced you to.
5) grinding skyshards didn't just suddenly get harder. It remained the same.

Lmfao. What is this,
You have read this entirely wrong, the adventurers pack is 11,000 crowns worth of stuff for the price of 2,000 the actual any race any faction ability alone isn’t 11,000 and once the deal goes it will prolly have a seperate fee, prolly also 2000 u just won’t get the additional goodies for the same price.
ESO+ god forbid they encourage you to actually subscribe like every other mmorpg does, some enforce it to even log in. So realistically I don’t see your problem here. Subscriptions for more invested players has always been a thing for as long as this genre has existed.
Skyshards, there for alt characters. If your so persistent to not get them you could merely buy them on ur alt each month and do the easier zones manually in between. The simple case is it’s a MMORPG, there not built with alt friendliness in espically sandbox MMORPGs. If you could purchase these without achievements I’d agree with you on this. But however this would only be nessercary if your entirely rerolling which in that case you still get skill point rewards from a lot of quests throughout the story lines so would have to recomplete the lands anyway.
Is skyshards in the crownstore a good idea? Nah, but it’s also a worthless concept reguardless so you shouldn’t be buying them reguardless of rerolling lol.
Hey all, just to clear up some confusion here. The price you see on the Any Race, Any Alliance bundle is its permanent price. It's meant to display the total value of the bundle, rather than a sale (which is why there's no timer.)

Nope. Any Race Any Alliance was 1900 crowns, Imperial was - and is - 2100 Crowns.

Mb, it was the adventurer upgrade that came with the any race any alliance upgrade for 1900, not the Imperial upgrade for 1500. But still, that's like a 9000 crown difference between then and now.
