My latest trace-route shows a direct path to the USA now with a ping in what I can only figure is California being 198ms.
HOWEVER, my in-game ping is 330-350ms.
No idea what Akamai is doing with my data when it hits the USA.
198.100 is the wrong prefix. I use 198.20.200.73 (which is also what Mudfish use).To run a trace route;
Type CMD in 'RUN' in windows or your operating sytem of choice. (Open a command line interface.)
Type: TRACERT 198.100.198.20
Press ENTER
It will default to 30 hops. Time outs are indicative of Akamai equipment not replying and need not be concerned about.

You're right. It's changed sine I last checked. I got he 198.100.xxx.xxx IP range from an ESO test file. My resource monitor shows ESO.exe is now connecting to 198.20.200.26
So I ran another TRACERT and lo-and-behold, still going through Hong Kong.
Still passing through Australia and Hong Kong and whereever 93.191.173.93 is. (Probably Europe going by the ping.)
So yeah, the path is the longest way around the world from NZ to the USA.
That is why Akamai is a steaming POS.

In in Australia - and my lag is way worse than a few months ago (took a break) - anyone else face this also?
I wonder if its local or a global issue ?
All those numbers, which should I use for Tracert?
198.20.200.73
or
198.20.200.26?
My resource monitor shows the launcher a number of times with the Remote addresses 180.150.1.75, 198.20.198.110 and 198.20.198.100
Upon starting the game I get 206.80.46.186 and an eso64.exe entry 192.20.200.25 and .30
When character loggedin there's a new one with 192.20.200.33
Sorry I have no idea what all this means.... I just thought it would be interesting to compare our results...
To any Aussie Broadband customers here, we're now taking the direct route to USA
They recently put in their own links to both Singapore and USA and after that occurred, and after a little bit of communication back and forward, they were kind enough to manually blacklist the NA ESO IP range from being routed to HK. It is a bit of a kludge on their part, but it's great they were willing to help out.
ZOS still isn't out of fault here as they still should be able to work something out with Akamai that doesn't involve AU/NZ ISPs manually tweaking their BGP routes, but it's an improvement for some of us.
(Sidenote, any ABB people here in Victoria may still be routing the long way as the international rollout isn't completely enabled in Victoria yet - rest of the country, we're good to go).

OP here again - the ping is getting pretty bad for me now, consistently over 300ms.
Out of interest, which VPNs have people tried? I used mudcrab(fish).
I use Mudfish and I get pretty good pings with occasional spikes, on parity with what I got prior to the Akamai fiasco of last September (still current.)
I did use BattlePing previously but Mudfish seems to be better value for money as I have cut down my ESO playtime considerably since dropping subscription due to the ping issue.
I use a Mudfish server on the West Coast USA, so hopefully close to where the route disappears into Akamai West Coast scrubbers.
YMMV.
Those in power only have the illusion they are powerful, however in reality, those in power are only so because we allow them to be.

@MrGarlic
Hey still using Mudfish?
Do you find that Nodes tend to go slower randomly? Have you found one that you are happy with?

I see a lot of unhappy reviews with NBN.
Back with Telstra 2 years ago, Sydney Southeast and Id struggle to maintain 4mbps.
Not sure who to go with TO now that I am back.
