    Kinda sad ZOS...

That name is funny. I should make an imperial named Triticum

Seriously hope that I won’t have to change any of my four guys names. I used a generator for them to make them fit and I didn’t want to name them something stupid.

Two years ago I tried "Fiery Fierce Frags" for a mDK - wasn't allowed. Hard to know what's going on with their pattern recognition.

your character has numbers in its name. Don't change it because now it is unique and numbers are not allowed normally in character names.

I made this post as a warning: as of now, it is not allowed to name your characters after ESO lore characters. I logged in this morning to find this:
    Screenshot_20180911_124657.png

I asked the devs through our discord, and apparently I was not allowed to call my character sheogorath. Next time I log in I have to rename him. I've had the character for at least half a year, I made it because I wanted to make him like uncle sheo and now I was told that it's not allowed.

I want to prevent that others experience this too, so be aware!

Hopefully is just some *** reporting you and not some new, misguided initiative that will engulf us all. My tank would like to stay the ghost of the once immortal Ninglenel thank you very much. You did a great job on you Sheo toon by the way. I would just rename him basically the same thing and see if they catch you. Stupid rules deserve to be prodded. I really don't think anybody saw your Sheo with all his numbers in front and such and thought, oh my God, the God of madness just robbed and killed that peasant cleaning the stable in Rawl. Also, he's the God of madness so really nothing you could do would be out of character anyway.
I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. Kudos on fixing the in-game economy though. Clearly whatever gold shenanigans were happening the last couple years are fixed.

It's standard practice in pretty well any MMORPG, and frankly I'm glad. Playing LoTRO and seeing names like Gindolf and Logoless is bad enough but having player characters called Gandalf and Legolas would be absurd in the context of a story-based role-playing game, and I don't see why ESO is any different. I'm surprised storyline NPC names were accepted in the first place and I'd never report them if I saw them, but I honestly can't blame ZOS for stopping it once they're alerted to it, especially as the problem with NPC names is that you can duplicate character names by adding a second name so you could in theory have dozens of Sheogoraths running around. It really doesn't take much thought to come up with an original name.

The usual practice in cases like this is that a namechange is unavoidable for the next attempt to log in.

He has to. You are faced with a new name prompt if you try to log into the character. You can't skip it.

prety much all of us on this forum would be forced a rename as well if they keep going and expand with this rule.

helm of Oreyn Bearclaw is an ingame thing and character name
    latest?cb=20160607105730

I'm fine... but then again, I actually use lore friendly names instead of naming my characters after famous figures in the setting's history or mythology and saying, "but, it's totally lore friendly, because my parents named me after a very fickle and vicious god."

    Right.

    No.

I dont believe you ever actually meet Oreyn Bearclaw in any of the TES games. You definitely find his helm a few times, and you meet one of his descendants, Modryn Oreyn in Oblivion, but they are not even the same race (bearclaw was a Bosmer, Modryn was a dunmer). The lore is def a little fuzzy. We also meet Orryn the Black in ESO, but its a different spelling, he is a nord, and I dont see that there is any indication they are related. It's a pretty obscure reference, would be a shame to have to change after 4 F'ing years.

Quick question- there’s nobody named Reistr in TES lore right? I know there’s a person in Skyrim who had the last name the Unbroken, but that was a female NPC.

yes you do, i think, if i am remembering right u are sent to kill him and u get that helm as a reward.
(in morrowind) its not a good thing tho, because immediately after u kill him your name in the Negative is Spread abroad far and wide many people hate you for killing him because he was well loved in all of Vvardenfell.
it was quite the evil quest from an evil God character.

yes i was right, after a search i found the quest here ...

Hopefully in fine because it’s a different last name- then again I used a generator so I had no idea there was a person named that XD I just liked the name for a Skyrim vampire.

*** now I really gotta pick up Oblivion and play it-

Actually, I believe you are sent to kill his last descendant, Favryn Oreyn. He is also dunmer. The sort of skate over how a Bosmer hero (son of a bosmer king) has dark elf descendants, but I guess there could have been some interracial marriages. haha. The lore is really messy. Was Bearclaw a hero or was it really his orc friend, Kharag Gro-Khar, who did all the deeds? Perhaps a combo? We may never know.

Did they give you an official warning on your account as well? They did to me over the name King Casamir a year or two ago lol

Someone reported you over this is exactly what happened.. whats funnier is when you ask them where it says this isn't allowed in the TOS, they'll reply with highlighted words scattered throughout the 13 page document that's supposed to add up to this isn't allowed.

Tronald Dump was something I considered. Now I need a new name for Sheogorath...

    Couple of suggestions:

    Cheesogorath
    The Mad Twin
    Professional Doppelganger

I'll name a new char called Stúgá and randomly pm people with: do you know how long I've been looking for you?

That's sucky. Sorry you have to deal with it for sure.

I never have the issue because all my names in any game are out of my own mind. I have probably a thousand or more names I've never used anywhere yet in a file....

The only "maybe sorta like a name from a book" I ever used in a game was Jaelythe in WoW (on two servers). That was a direct grab from Andre Norton's books - and "misspelled" so I wouldn't be in copyright violation. I have every book she ever wrote, have loved them forever (since I first started reading fantasy, in the late-50s/early 60s), and it was my way to acknowledge her influence on fantasy, and my own writing.

I hope she's okay with that, wherever she's gone on to.

Maybe I suck at reading the CoC, but I don't find the para where lore names for toons are forbidden.

It reads something about the pejorative misuse of lore names or any Zeni property, but there is not a single line about abuse by use.

Neither do I understand, why *King Casamir* is forbidden, even if *King Casimir* were so.

Name yourself Sheogorath backwards! Htarogoesh! Or Uncle Sheo?
This is really dumb. My Divayth Fyr copy might upset some one then. I don't see why. They should actually provide a reason or leave you alone. No one will get confused between you and a dev or the real (not as classy dressed) Sheo.
