✭I thought I was a collector until the radiant apex mounts happened. They went too far by adding items that couldn’t even be purchased with gems. I’m no where near what I would consider a whale to be, but at least I was able to collect enough gems to get the top tier items I wanted.PS4 Pro NA1 -
Cant hate on people considered whales. Obviously they are financially successful enough to afford it. Wish they added apex mounts for gems. They should get that much.
Most people can't afford most things they buy. They buy them and make bad financial decisions because it's just what they want, not because they can actually meet all other obligations or commonly accepted practices of success (such as maxxing 401k).2 -

Sure, some things can be Exclusive, never said otherwise. However, it seems that anything that comes out for the Crown Store is both Over Priced, and/or Exclusive Time Limited.

I agree on the pricing and I loathe the "limited time stuff" especially since they tend to do it during the work week. Seems like it'd make more sense to do on weekends but, hey, I'm certainly no marketing type. I dislike marketing.

Ydrisselle✭✭✭✭✭I have to admit I’m a whale when it comes to cash shops in games. In most MMO’s I play I spend good amounts of euro’s to get those nice cosmetics. Furthermore I’m a collector and due to that whenever I see something I need to get it. Did this in other games like WoW, GW2, SWTOR and ofcourse ESO. With ESO I managed to get all stuff until the crown crates and even with the crown crates, the first two seasons I got all items eventually because you actually could even if your RNG sucked. But ZO$ being greedy added more items and added items you could not get through the gems so basically you had the chance (a very big one) to not get everything before the season was over.
Which meant as collector I could not get everything anymore. Because of this I have been spending less money on the cash shop then before, this whale got killed. So I made an analysis from my expenses from the account page and holy *** I spend over 4000 euro’s on ESO. But the good thing is that ever since the change to the way ZO$ is trying to grab more cash I spend less and less on ESO. So I would like to thank ZO$ for this, got cash to spend on other games which do not throw me under the RNG bus.
Below my spend euro's on ESO on crowns over the years per quarter:
Wow, that's a lot of money (it would cover all my expenses for 10 months). And the trend demonstrates clearly why is it counterprodurctive to think your playerbase can and will buy everything you try to sell them... There is always a limit, and reaching that will make you lose more money than you are able to grab from them.
I definitely can't spend any money to buy crates or even crowns (right now I'm not even sure what can I buy to eat next week), and I'm sure I won't spend 10% of this. Of course I'm just a very, very poor Hungarian player, so I'm not even the target of the average business decision.0 -

✭✭The problem I have with the "limited time" stuff is that it's not a "limited time at this price" like most offers, but a "here today, gone tomorrow" situation that locks out those who are prepared to pay full price. Those houses etc. aren't coming back in the gambling crates. You can't trade with other players, either. You just can't get them at all. That doesn't seem to be a good business model, as you're inherently limiting not only the supply, but the demand.3 -

Since motifs are cosmetic, this was another logical step ZOS was going to take to try and snare completionists but get little flak on forums because cosmetic.
I stopped spending on ESO a while now and highly doubtful i will spend again since apex hidden mounts were introduced. If they added more crown store exclusive motifs my game time would cease and if they hide motifs behind clown crates my game time will surely cease.
Weird thing is, game content is ticking along nicely for me personally (Even though its buggy). It is the continual butchery of the crown store and monetisation in ESO that is killing it for me.1 -

I wouldnt mind if that motif book was split based on the whole book price divided by the amount of pages so that I can buy the seperate pages which I didnt get instead of buying a book and already have half of them. But I doubt they will go that way and probably will overprice the single pages.0 -

Your spending has doubled every year.
And while this year you've spent less than last year... you have still spent more than the first 2 years.
Even if you end up spending less this year, that'd be understandable; you can't expect people to keep spending 2000€/year on the game... or even more.
2k euros are pocket change for some.
What annoys is not 2k-4k but the fact that if you really, REALLY want something, you still won't have it because of RNG + time limits they impose.
What happens is that if a collector starts missing 2-3 items, he's not feeling being a collector any more. Thus he drops the whole operation and hops to another game where he CAN purchase ALL.
Couldn't have said it any better. I hope they enjoyed their initial boon as their shortsightedness while cost them greatly in the long run. I'm sure they are of the belief that big spenders are easily replaceable. Originally it was going to be only available through crown crates.
It is only available through fishing (and only in Summerset locations as far as I know) because the forums exploded with complaints about being crown crate only.
