The worst part about the evolution of ESO is that it's completely cheapened The Elder Scrolls franchise to me. I continue to play ESO because I'm invested in it socially, but TES has lost its magic in my eyes. It's just another milked IP. It might as well be owned by Disney.

Regarding housing prices: For that type of money I will just buy a new ship in Star Citizen. At least for $100s of dollars I basically am getting a new class, mount, house, career arc, etc. For the house purchase, I get very little utility (can't even decorate the scale needed for its size).

Much cheaper to just "visit" by entering the preview instance (can access from outside front door even after sale ends). Then I can still enjoy the view and RP that its my place.

Someone I can identify with! :)

No really, I'll spend my money elsewhere because based on the current trend, ESO isn't going to last long...

It's the whales that encourage predatory marketing gimmicks employed by the likes of PWI, EAware and ZOS.

So paying $100 for a game in alpha, and no way of knowing it will be released, is a good idea but someone paying $100 for ESO isnt worth it?

This is a great statement at face value... except you're completely missing the entire point of the argument. It isn't about worth or value, it's about core motivations and trends. The difference between a reasonably transparent process that -attempts- to try and inform and involve players (albeit not perfect) vs one that could care less about informing players and insists on squeezing every last penny out of their player-base.

I am a long time Star Citizen backer, but at the moment they leave a pretty ashy taste in my mouth. SC seems less like a game and more like some off form of traded crypto currency that uses ships as a medium for exchange. I am hoping someday they actually release something but it really feels like they are milking the playerbase at the moment.

I'm not a whale but I spend some crowns while I'm sub. Well... until now that I have unsubbed and didn't buy any crowns on the last "sale". Why? Because, they just didn't care, we're just numbers for them.

If they care... the would sell costumes (you must pay for them) and let you dye them the way you want, but lately, that didn't happen, there a lot of costumes that don't dye well. (And I have to remember that you also have to pay for ESO+ in order to dye them)

Or costumes that are released with bugs, and they never fix them...

    Crown crates...

    Chapters that aren't expansions...

Lazy Dungeon DLCs... yes, they are lazy dlcs from my point of view.

I could go on but I think you got the point. I don't like the direction of this game. I love it, but every day I'm more upset and I'm asking me why I keep playing at all.

I only speak for myself in that statement. I currently have gotten my money's worth from the alpha alone, and if you follow the weekly development videos, the games(SQ42 is AAA single player game) will come out :). The difference is we've been involved since Day1, whereas most games aren't even announced/confirmed until 5-10 years of development.

My point is really in the utility provided for the cost.

I am a very early SC backer too. Even with the current unfinished status it's possible to explore and have fun.

It's true that for that price one can buy a (small) SC ship but...

what's holding you back from buying both the SC ships and ESO houses?

the later trends are borderline insulting to their customers yet they keep doing it

Way to make me reconsider the game and my purchase

I have already reduced them big time

Because i think that SC will never get done at least not in the way they promised. I dont mind spending money on games, i dont like spending money on ideas that might or might not work.

And that's totally OK. You're looking at it from a consumer point of view, not an investor point of view.

This game is far too greedy. $80 dollars for a digital house? Why not buy a new game and save money. Where are the mounts to be earned in game. $15 for a costume slot? I used to subscribe and occasionally buy stuff. I am so put off by this game now I haven’t spent anything in a long time.

I have to admit I’m a whale when it comes to cash shops in games. In most MMO’s I play I spend good amounts of euro’s to get those nice cosmetics. Furthermore I’m a collector and due to that whenever I see something I need to get it. Did this in other games like WoW, GW2, SWTOR and ofcourse ESO. With ESO I managed to get all stuff until the crown crates and even with the crown crates, the first two seasons I got all items eventually because you actually could even if your RNG sucked. But ZO$ being greedy added more items and added items you could not get through the gems so basically you had the chance (a very big one) to not get everything before the season was over.

Which meant as collector I could not get everything anymore. Because of this I have been spending less money on the cash shop then before, this whale got killed. So I made an analysis from my expenses from the account page and holy *** I spend over 4000 euro’s on ESO. But the good thing is that ever since the change to the way ZO$ is trying to grab more cash I spend less and less on ESO. So I would like to thank ZO$ for this, got cash to spend on other games which do not throw me under the RNG bus.

Below my spend euro's on ESO on crowns over the years per quarter:

€4200 over three years and you think you're a whale? Aw, that's so cute!

You might be the little one on the surface.

Yes!!! I spent tons of money on crates to get the rare mounts and have gotten none of them. Now? I have 11,000 crowns saved up and refuse to spend them on crates.

Spending money on crates is like throwing yourself in a pool with piranhas.
