PTS Update 18 - [SPOILERS] Feedback Thread for Summerset Main Quest

The Psijic Order quests, the seal the time things is really repetitive. There's no challenge, interesting mechanic or anything to it. Just run to 9 places. Ok done. Now run again, only the places are even further away.
And we'll need to do it several times if we want the skills on our characters.

I haven't completed the main quest yet but so far everything regarding the story is awesome, well done ZOS. I like how Summerset is filled with entertaining side quests.

There is one thing I'd like to mention about the new tutorial. I know we could find weapons scattered around (and this might be intentional for encouraging exploration), but it would be better if we could choose any weapon at the start instead of a greatsword. Also, as others have mentioned, I think making this tutorial as the first quest for existing characters who travel to Summerset Isle for the first time would be much better. Oriandra mentions that she has to tend to other newcomers, so I suppose this can be implemented without breaking the continuity of the story.

I know this thread is for the main quest but I've seen some other players in-game having the same issue so I decided to post it. The Psijic Order quest "Time for Mud and Mushrooms" is glitched. The time breach by the Hist tree at Percolating Mine in Shadowfen disappears when you approach it.
In this screenshot, the breach can be seen from a distance.

In this one, the breach disappeared when approached.

I can't seem to find a way to start this quest naturally.

No notes laying around, no npcs chasing me, nothing in Vulkhel Guard where I left the Wyress to recuperate after her ordeal.

I like having a natural lead in rather than having to port there or accept via collections (just a personal preference)

I am relatively new to ESO, but I have to say Summerset is beautiful! I am enjoying it a lot so far. However, I did have a problem during "The Queen's Decree" with a new PTS character. I went into the monastery and in trying to escape the undercroft (running from dremora), I opened a door and fell beneath the monastery somehow. I went off the edge and into water. I could see the monastery way above me. The walls were too high for me to climb back up, but after swimming all over, Val and I managed to escape (the quest progressed) and I was able to use a wayshrine to get back to a normal-looking area. I have screenshots, but being new to forums I'm not sure how to add them.

With the patch yesterday they did a fresh (up-to-date) character copy of all PC NA characters. That means all characters that were on PTS before that copy have been deleted and replaced by whatever you currently have on the PC NA live server.

This is a normal procedure on PTS, though not every week brings a new character copy. Check the patch notes or (sometimes) the info text on the PTS login screen. Before Summerset PTS started, the text also stated which characters were on there and on which day the copy happened.

Hi! I am loving the beta so far, my biggest concern is one that does not effect everyone, but could lead to people not playing past the prologue.
I get migraines, and the visual effects of video games can cause them (as they can with many others). The waves on the prologue are a wonderful creative effect - they are also very hard on someone with migraines.
If there could be an option during the prologue to turn off the dream effect or shrink it.... that would be awesome. If the option already exists, maybe making it easier to find.
The prologue was reallllly hard to get through. If I wasn't so excited about this game, I would have given up and not played past it.
    Thanks!

At the very beginning of the quest line Raz always finishes his fight before I can see him, unless I ignore and run past the panicked elf who gives the player character the first opportunity to start the quest. This is the same regardless of whether I have created a new character or not.

I completely forgot to praise ZOS writing for this one in at the end of the story:
I found it beyond hilarious that the story concludes with Raz lounging on the throne. Your writers, and Christopher Corey Smith (Raz's voice actor), all did the most amazing job are creating such a wonderful character and bring his personality to life. I have found him to be one of my all time favorite characters ever since I washed up on Khenarthi's Roost during beta.

That being said, I do hope we see Raz again in future content, especially if there is Elsweyr content.

Raz mentions he has family. Perhaps some Elsweyr content could involve you helping Raz with his homeland and family. I think that would be quite interesting and enjoyable.

I'm not sure, I might love Raz more than Naryu now... It's very close at the least.

I'm guessing NDA have no power here, so let me externalize my feelings about Summerset Main Dish... I mean Quest :D Oh boy, there is a lot to talk about,
Prologue: Sadly I've only heard about it. For some reason I've started in Summerset with no intro. But I have good idea what it's all about and I'm amazed. The most psychedelic plane in whole TES series so far. Also expanding lore behind Mental Magic was simply brilliant.

Summerset: Yeah, I heard rants about 'Altmers were supposed to have glass houses with insect-like features', but to be honest? It doesn't bother me at all. This description was unshowable and I believe, author never believed we would eventualy have to present his visions in game. And between us, if I have to to choose between 'Summerset like in old descriptions' and 'different, but still appealing and intriguing Summerset with great plot and lore' and wouldn't hesitate for a moment.

Artaeum: Damn, this island looks ridicolously good. Sky, sight and spaceshippish Tower? Simply amazing. Of course, Psijiic Order can be considered as lost potential, but honestly? I'm buying them. They have many parallels with Greybeards. Both are highly secluded monastery so afraid of interfering, they seems clumpsy when they have to intervence.

Triad: You started as god's pawn, now you are talking with them as equal. That's nice development. And for Daedra, I'm glad we could see all three of them in flesh. BTW Mephala have awesome design. Fate of this unussual was obvious, but the way it was delievered was funny and impressive. And final intrigue? Satisfacting, unexpected and expending the lore. From me A+. It will be hard to outperform this in future DLC.

Characters: Story is as good as it's characters. And Summerset have a great set of them. Leytham with great motivation and development. He would be my favorite hero of this chapter, but Rigurt outrun him. There was also Valsirenn, kind-a dull, but that was her role. Being generic member of good squad. Ritemaster was funny punchbag. I believe, many will be offended that 'chief of the greatest magical organisation is some goof', but I cannot stop laughing at his peripeteia. Seht was nice and helpful surprise. I'm must admit, he is slowly growing to be my favorite Tribunali. K'Tora? He's Sload and seeing Sload at close range is always valuable opportunity. Especially when he shows some tricks. Oh... and Golden Knight. Darien, as his title imply, is pure gold. Funny goofball helping save multiverse :sunglasses:

Flaws: Yeah, we came to this... I'm sorry, but I have to mention what I disliked. This chapter is answerless and I have ambivalent feelings about it. Battle ended and we still don't know what was that whole Coldharbor Compact all about. And what about War mentioned by Molag Bal in which we will fight on his side? That's it? Or maybe fight just begins? Triad moved borders of status quo and that brings new opportunity. Also, some Princes were weaken and as I believe, their enemies could smell blood. But returning to the point... Where is Arthaeum? Was it really Veya? Did we retconed Crystal Tower Gem? What happened to Laythen? Did he zero-sumed? And his daughter? In my headcanon her demise was part of daedric plot. Also how Ritmeaster get to the top of Crystal Tower when Daedric Prince needed whole intrigue for it? What with Abyssal Cabal? What was Clavicus' price? Did Sotha laid with Mephala? Did somebody finally joined Peryite Cult? Does Rigurt became Proxy Prince? OK, I'm goofing now, but you have the point. Summerset gave more questions than answers. Oh and final boss could be more climatic/interesting.

Epilogue: That was just great. What previous TES games were lacking for me was feeling of bonding with this world and people. In Skyrim or Oblivion you were everyone's dogsbody. Your quest givers were realizing their plans and ambitions and you were just their tool to achieve their goal. Collect enlisted herbs? Recover some family heirloom? Expel annoying bandits? Slay mighty dragons? Kill innocent people? Save the universe? All of this for what? Bland trinckets and dissapearance from story just right after completing your role in it. That was kind-a sad. You weren't telling your story, but were plot device in someone other's.

And here comes Summerset with it's Epilogue. Hidden book with:
I've done this (sacrife) not for Meridia, but for you, my friend.

was heart melting. The same goes to the Council. Chosen NPC that you helped them in the past, came there to support you. You were then for them, now they are here for you. You aren't just some vocational adventurer/menial, but a part of something bigger. You have friends, allies and respect you gained leads your path. However I have one sidenote: Friendly crew is too constant. It should be more differential. It would be better if you could met almost any NPC, not those from chosen key quests. Why there was no Alchemy or Ingarlas? Or Rigurt the Brash? For Shor's Bones, we need more of Rigurt the Brash.

PS. Raz occuping Throne? Pure gold

Aftermath: What's next? I hope we'll get some rest from Daedra. I like this topic, but we need some break from time to time. You know, to not be fed up with it. I don't know... Murkmire? West Skyrim?

In The Tower Sentinels quest there is a invisiblity/non-interactable bug.

Upon entering the Sapiarch College Labyrinth my character is invisible, as is the quest NPC that is required to speak with to further the quest. The dialogue option is there to speak to her, but it will not respond when toggled.
I cannot interact with my combat keys, or swap weapons.
Enemies are also invisible, but can attack me. I cannot initiate combat, or attack back.
Reloading ui, leaving the area and re-entering, and fully restarting the game have not worked.

I also tried to send a ticket, but the Submitting Ticket notification window is stuck on "Submitting..."

(To add: Exiting the area, my character does reappear. It is only in the Labyrinth that this issue happens)

I've also run into this problem and have submitted a ticket.
It takes much longer than usual for that area to load and when it does NPCs (both friendly and enemy) are invisible. PC are all black and never fully render.
I've tried relogging, leaving then re-entering the area and so far nothing works. As such I can't continue the main quest line.

I found the quest step "The Dreaming Cave" where you go into Eton Nir Grotto rather ironic as I was also on the daily quest "Snuffing out the Light" at the same time. Yay for asking Meridia for help AND burning her scriptures lol.

While running "Buried Memories" quest, I logged out while in the Psijic Relic Vault. When I logged back in I was dropped off in front of the Psijic Relic Vault to start this phase of the quest over, but when I am asked to "Burn Mephala's Barrier," I do not get the action prompt to continue. I had done this part of the quest previously, which might be the issue.

For reference, I finished the quest on a character who beat the House Redoran questline (killed Veya) and all three Alliance quests but NOT the main quest for Vvardenfell or Clockwork City.

    The Good:
    • Was happy to see reference made to an otherwise-unimportant sidequest in Clockwork City (I mean the power-from-life-energy part – which we see in the Everwound Wellspring, in case that's ambiguous).
    • Was pleasantly surprised to see Sotha Sil show up in general.
    • I liked that the voice at the Geysers changes after you kill K'Tora.
    • I'm glad a bit of the realms of all three Daedric Princes managed to be squeezed in to the plot.
    • Main Quest felt nicely long.

    The Bad:
    • Too much of the plot hinges on the Psijic Order being helpless and grabbing the idiot ball. This wouldn't be so grating if the Psijic Order wasn't supposed to be thousands of years old and supposedly one of the most advanced magical orders in existence. I admit when their task for a new intern was 'go close rifts in time' I had gotten my hopes up that they would have been taken seriously, but they're shockingly ineffective.
    • Meridia ruined Darien's reveal by telling me who the Golden Knight is before I meet him. And then, in spite of the fact that I've been flat-out told who he is, my character acts surprised when we meet him after rescuing him.
    • I killed Veya. This is more a problem with the over-arching storyline than Summerset's, and her presence was handwaved ('Naryu lied and shipped me off to Summerset anyway!'), but it's nevertheless a problem that we were given a red-text choice, told that it mattered, and then it doesn't end up mattering at all. Don't bother giving a choice in that case!
    • Raz's apprentice Yarmia – from the Sweetroll Killer quest – never shows up. Even if she was planned to be in a future questline rather than this one, she should have been there, or some explanation for her absence should have been given.
    • Raz barely got any acknowledgment that we've met before. Naryu had gotten an optional dialog tree about our previous adventures; all Raz got was his greeting changed slightly.
    • Agree with the general consensus that the final fight at the top of the tower is...corny. In addition to Nocturnal floating in the background like a cartoon character, her idea of a bossfight is 'Oh, you killed my champion twice already? I'll just bring her back a third time with even more arms!' Recycling Veya-as-a-multiarmed-monstrosity for the same fight was just lazy.
    • The Sea Sload got a depressingly small part in the plot given that they set large parts of it off.

    The Headscratchers:
    • Alchemy didn't show up for the main quest (I'm aware of the sidequest) – I kept expecting an appearance since Alchemy's bio is on the site.
    • Likewise, the Proxy Queen played such a small part (even including Rigurt's sidequest) it seems like it would have been a simpler matter to just write her out entirely and handwave that Ayrenn is around and just so busy we don't see her.
    • The Sapiarchs got hit twice – at the College and the Crystal Tower. There were only two-hundred-something of them to begin with, how is there anyone left to argue with by the end???
    • Maybe there's a sidequest that I'm missing, but the rivalry between the Psijic Order and the Mage's Guild never comes up at all.

After the wipe I have created another new character to test the main quest/storyline as a relatively new player. Okay, the intro film makes up for the weird environment you begin with - it shows you what is to come and allays your expectations of an Elven world. I don't think I would feel the disappointment I initially felt when coming straight into the mind trap and thought "this really isn't living up to what I expected".

After you complete the combat tutorial, Orianda doesn't wait for you to loot & equip, explore or use your level up options, but runs ahead and you miss what she says. It is disappointing that the first coffer you come across is empty (a few coins would be fine). A prompt that you have a chance to explore and practise fighting would help after the jump - the first time I played the tutorial I went straight through the lower area without realising there was so much to do there. When you first see Raz I noticed the line "what were those strange creatures I saw you fighting?", I didn't see any fighting either time, there are just dead creatures on the path around him and I am again feeling the game is running on ahead of me and I am missing scenes and dialogue that are part of the story I have 'paid' to enjoy.

I like that Tsoxola's body is there this time, not just his backpack.

Having the 'Investigating Our Allies' book just before you enter Shimmerene is a nice bit of background filling-out.

In the undercroft with Valsiren, prisoners were already dead when I entered the scene, instead of standing and bound and then killed when I was there to witness as I experienced on the first play through.

I loved how attitudes and dialogue changes toward me when playing a High Elf in contrast to an 'outsider'.

I thought I would get to keep the 'Elegant Outfit' on completing that quest :(

Afetr destroying the pearl in the Coral Forest, Val doesn't finish her speech on making the link for me to go to Arteum, I only knew what to do because I had already done this recently.

In Arteum - I noticed a typo when speaking with Silurie, our first reply says "Grusome killings" (should be Gruesome).

I am hitting this too unfortunatly...
Same here. Tried almost everything I could think of. Repeated re-loading, disabling all add-ons. I still could try abandoning the quest.

Update: Abandoning, and picking the quest back up didn't fix the issue.

Interesting, on a whim I tried again today it it worked just fine. I didn't see an update to the client so maybe they fixed something on the server, that or I just got lucky... All I did was try again, which I did yesterday many times, so I did nothing different today, I might have re-booted since yesterday, that would be about the only thing different.

Another thing: when Darien is describing his time in the Colored Rooms, he mentions talking to Golden Saints - it should be Aurorans, unless Meridia stashed him in the Shivering Isles for some reason.

So on Monday night after patch 4.0.2 came out, I spontaneously decided to finish the main storyline (I had only done 'The Queens Decree' portion to get to Artaeum to do Psijic shenanigans which I've also completed).

But anyway, I have to say, the story was absolutely wonderful! Definitely, my favourite to date (Clockwork City was my previous favourite). It was so much fun hanging out with Raz and seeing previous characters return!

But I swear those damn high elves! Those arrogant, pompous fools! Grrrrr! I wanted to slap half of Summerset across the face! (Nords forever the best Race haha!)

The stakes were definitely much higher that's for sure. It was nice to have various Daedric Princes heavily involved in the story. I find them quite fascinating. I'm starting to actually like Claviticus and his Dog (that's a troubling notion isn't it?) hopefully we run into them again haha. Oh and Mephala is kind of cute in her own way except for all the stupid *** spiders (I could, of course, use far more colourful language to vent my frustration about all the spiders)...

But, the story doesn't really make it clear if Meridia and Azura are okay? I mean it's kind of implied that Meridia doesn't fare well given Darien's whole being 'the last light of Meridia' thing. But it would be a shame if two of the nice Daedric Princes got wiped out. :(

Speaking of Darien, I have to admit, I shrieked out loud when it was revealed that Darien Gautier was the Golden Knight! OMG! It was an absolute treasure to get to hang out with him again! It's a shame he had to 'disappear' again though. I was hoping to reunite him with his friend Skordo the Knife.

And bloody Veya, sigh. Naryu's not going to be happy when I tell her what she did (hopefully we get the chance to do that?) But still, I knew that girl would find more trouble hence why I told Naryu to bloody kill her back in Morrowind in the first place. Sigh...

It was also great to have Sotha Sil involved in the story (something I wasn't anticipating)!

I really liked the new characters too. Valsirenn and Leyten (spelling?) were a nice dynamic. I cried when we go talk to them at their daughters' shrine before the final assault. It was so sad. :(

The one thing that did disappoint me (a little) is that there weren't really any hints as to where the story will be taking us next (unless I missed them?). I do enjoy a bit of foreshadowing haha (like we had in Morrowind and Clockwork City).

To anyone who has not done it yet or is waiting till it goes live, I would strongly advise doing the Summerset story on a character that has completed the main vanilla story, Morrowind and Clockwork City! That way, you'll get the most out of the story! You'll be more familiar with the characters featured and you'll better understand WTF is going on!

I am very much looking forward to seeing where the story takes us next!

You should look for the book at the top floor of Alinor palace after the main quest is done, @XamXam777 . Hint-hint.
