DON'T BUY SUMMERSET. ZoS screws it's players over again.

    Nah. I’m good.

Preordered Morrowind, already preordered Summerset. Totally okay with it all.

Not really sure where the actual problem lies.

I do not agree with the OP on the reasoning they give as others have said we are customers we pay for the content they supply if we do not like what they produce we will no longer purchase the products.

I bought Morrowind and I have preorder Summerset and I do it again knowing they changes they are implementing (yes I am an ESO subscriber) I would not wait a year for the content, I thoroughly enjoyed Morrowind I feel that ZoS did an exceptional cost.

What I am frustrated with is the confusion and regular changing of the business model first it was subscription base, then it buy to play with DLCs, then we had chapters that could only be purchased separately not with crowns or ESO+ and now they seem to be changing things again. The article was informative but I would of liked a statement from ZoS is this the new system can we expect the same for summerset, what made them think to change to this.

I agree that Battlegrounds should be base game, I dont mind that the Chapter can be bought with crowns separated into parts but giving the chapter for free with ESO+ is frustrating when we were told explicitly that we would not be able to have Morrowind via crowns or ESO+.

I'm sorry is this "vet" crying they are not charging the same for an xpac he preordered? I find it weird a "vet" is so ignorant he is not aware this is common well in almost EVERYTHING.

Buy a brand new car in 2017 for $40k 9 months later that same car has $1000s in discounts to clear space for the new models.

Buy the brand new 2017 4k HDR TV for $2000 in 2018 it will be down to $1200.

Every MMO ever released discounts their "old" xpacs. I really hope as a returning playing this "vet" doesn't represent the player base.

There is no point mocking OP, he/she expressed her opinion as a consumer. ZOS knows better than us whether OP has a point or not (as they know business model, operation cost, profits) if they feel giving some extra in game benefit to veterans could be done, who are we to object ?

But I would also want my 20% permanent exp boost if they don't want me to go to my bad crying and waking up having nightmares about this. :'(

Oh man, yeah it kinda sucks that you had to pay that much for the game but guess what, MMOs make money in that manner most of the time. People who are willing to support the company and the game buys those expansions/dlcs and carry on and boy o boy am I happy to see that new people will get Morrowind in a cheaper manner. You have no idea how much it can affect the future population of a game when you are trying to talk to other people about the game you are playing and they wanna get involved just to hit endgame in vanilla version and have to spend another 100$/Euro for the expansions as well to be able to carry on playing *cough* Lotro *cough*. Let people have their free expansions, dlcs whatever, they will make the game more lively. If you think this is a scam, maaan you have your account info in your hands, just cancel your support and move on? Nobody is forcing anybody to do anything. Do not belittle people who still want to support the company or the game because they enjoy spending time in this universe. Just my 2cents.

Either the OP is just seeking attention, pure trolling, or has no idea how world economics work in 2018 and has been living his life under a rock.

Besides, although a more front-end communication about future sell plans would be welcome, I don't see any problem in bundling Chapters into the subscription. I played on and off since the last betas and I'm not feeling ripped off. I pre-ordered Morrowind when it was available, and I just pre-ordered Summerset (digital CE upgrade this time). I didn't regret doing it and I'm not going to regret it this time. As a plus, the pre-order bundling actually makes me a favour, since this way I can gift the game to my gf's birthday by paying only for the last Chapter, since after the last free trial event she decided she likes the game and would like to play it.

And as for the physical CEs pricing, if I really want the physical fluff stuff that comes with them, I just wait for them to drop prices. As a practical example, I didn't buy SWTOR's CE for 150€ when it came out. I bought it for 29€ two years later during a sale. I don't need to pre-order physical CEs since those don't change what I get ingame at launch.

    EDIT: Typos.

OP should try a different MMO like World of Warcraft. Good time to do it too, because you get the current expansion free if you pre-order the one coming out this summer...

Not only that but you also get Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, Mists of Pandaria and Warlords of Draenor which is a huge slap in the face to everyone that paid full price for Burning Crusade back in the day!

On a serious note, Morrowind being available to ESO+ doesn't include the mount and the horse and the Warden and possibly the character slots too. When you figure in all the extras, it really isn't that different from paying to buy the extras with crowns. I think that overall the expansion is a better buy. I can't remember offhand, but didn't it come with a bunch of crowns included too, if you bought the collectors edition? I'm thinking 5500 but I could be remembering it wrong.

Zenimax is a business first, game development studio second. That being said what else did you expect from a business? I paid $10 for Morrowind on black friday. Because I knew it was gonna go on sale. that's the season of ridiculous discounts. You can apply the same practice for Summerset.

If you're like me and don't care about playing it whenever. But if you're one of those that let hype get the best of you and MUST HAVE Summerset on release well you gotta pay the price, a ridiculous expensive price. It pays to wait, remember to Zennimax you're just an organic wallet, don't be one.

MMOs do this all the time. When a new expansion comes out, the old expansion is added to the base game. You pay the at-release expansion price to play it right then, not a year later, or whenever they put it on sale.

I'm glad they are moving Morrowind to the crown store. I don't really benefit from such, but I do know people who only want to play the zone, and don't care about warden, or only care about warden and don't care about the zone. The price point for Morrowind and the Warden class will probably be about what the expansion cost, which was what... $40 ish? They'll assume everyone gets their crowns on sale or at the highest value, at about 140 crowns per US dollar. So expect Morrowind and warden together to cost around 5600 crowns, perhaps bundled for 5000 crowns, zone alone 3500 and class for 2000-2500.

Remember, with your subscription you are already paying for the crowns... the perks (craft bag, etc) are to get you to continue to do it monthly. Perks for a reliable monthly base income of subscription money for them.

So before, they got your $$ directly. Now they still get them, just through their microtransaction currency.

In a year, it will be the same. That's fine by me.

I'm no white knight (more of a black sheep than anything), but, how all you peeps hating on Summerset?! Damn.. it isn't even here yet. Goodness.. just play and enjoy the game.
I pre-ordered Summerset for Summerset. Well, and that Nightmare Senche. Rawrrrr!

I don't regret it. I'm not going to wait a year for ZOS make it a base game upgrade+DLC or free, with the next chapter pre-order either.

Hey, congrats.. to each their own; your pockets, as everyone who bought the pre-purchase. It is all good.. do as you wish. As for me, I finally bought Morrowind, what, about 9 or 10 months later when it became on sale for 10 bucks, and I will be fine to do the same with Summerset. Heck, a year later of Morrowind, and I still enjoy rolling around through Wrothgar more than Vvardenfell. To me, the story/quest lines of Orsinium are more engaging and enjoyable than Morrowind. Also, as a year later, Morrowind does feel like it is worth free, similar to all those DLCs that came with latest Skyrim redux.

I never figured a company would get so much heat for reducing prices on it's items.

Why people figure they are "owed" something other than the items that they paid for is beyond me.

You got the item you wanted at the cost you agreed to at the point of sale. What happens a year from now with someone else's money is, frankly, none of your business.

Sucks to be the OP if they ever buy a brand new car and drive it off the lot and suddenly realize that it just lost 20% or more of its value.

I also like how OP believes that veteran players are the majority... at what point OP is a player considered a 'veteran', when they hit level 50?!?

Bought the CE , like the past two CE's no regrets, just like I have no regrets for the crown crates or houses I purchase. I take individual responsibility and make informed purchase decisions. I think that is better than getting all Norma Ray and telling other people what to do, and accusing them of being toxic if they don't share your opinion.

Yet, here we are, 3 years later, with a larger base of players than 1 year after the game was released.

    Huh.

ZoS must be doing something right to gain more players.

I will never understand why people get upset over seeing a price drop compared to what they paid.

It's doing better than Swtor atleast lol

Last time i checked, many forms of entertainment content can be bought at release at full price or waited out to get klater at reduced price or free. that includes movies (eventually making tv), music, books (eventually making library) etc etc etc.

I paid for morrow last year to play it then and ongoing... just like i will pay to see Avengers-IW in a few weeks and Summerset soon after. I got what i paid for out of morrow... i dont see it as a screw of me to now have it come out free or cheap or whatever a year later.

But thats me... there was no guarantee of "nobody else will ever get it cheaper" implied or stated in my purchase.

I think it's actually quite terrifying how the majority of the replies in this thread see NOTHING wrong with this decision and haven't even taken the time to read the OP's statement properly and thoroughly. You've all skimmed it and made assumptions, completely wrong and facepalming ones at that! THIS is why ZOS get away with ripping people off, because of the sheeple who follow blindly, who attack other users who dare to call out something that's extremely unfair and wrong, and who throw their money into the never-ending well of 'hur dur but this is how games work'.

For what it's worth, OP, I COMPLETELY agree with you. I honestly hope you are offered some form of compensation - for instance, why are people like yourself not given the collector's edition of Summerset for free?

Bad move, ZOS. It's really made me re-think about how much I spend on this game! And for those who honestly don't see a problem with what ZOS is doing, I feel sorry for you. :s

The majority of the people replying haven't read 5% of what was posted. They certainly didn't read any of the other replies in the thread. They keep trotting out the same old tired replies. My main issue with ZOS is the way they keep pivoting back and forth on accepted payment methods for new content. First they tell us you can't use crowns to purchase new larger content(not small dungeon dlc), then they turn 180 degrees and contradict themselves and allow people to use crowns to purchase Morrowind. Wth is up with that? I had prepurchased crowns to get ready for upcoming story content releases, then they announce I can't use them to buy Morrowind. So I accepted this and just paid cash, I figured ok whatever they are changing the way we buy content, don't buy anymore crowns for new content, just pay cash. WRONG! Now they are letting people buy Morrowind with crowns. What a betrayal of people who trusted them while they made a change in business practice. I've already preordered Summerset before this unbelievable bs was announced, but this will probably be my last purchase in this game unless all of the payment method for content is completely spelled out and they get consistent with what they are doing. It's all over the place right now. Get with something and stick with it. Also, I'm willing to pay for the content that's not the problem, just figure out your gd payment methods that you are going to allow and don't change it.
