I can't wait to read your rant towards Toyota when you find out how much your car has depreciated :D

But seriously, it is almost universally true that things get cheaper after they stop being new. It's the "previous model year" discount. It applies to furniture, electronics, music albums, clothing lines, and yes - games. If you want the new thing now, you spend top dollar. If you are willing to wait a year, you will spend less.

But waiting on Summerset means waiting for jewelry crafting. Buying in a year means being a year behind everyone else for trait research and skill leveling, and possibly locking yourself out of the BiS year combos for a year. Maybe that matters to you, maybe it doesn't. Choose wisely.

Well, I guess the other option is you could wait for whatever expansion comes after Summerset and hope they offer the same deal...

Or, wait until the expansion after that and hope they offer the same deal...

Or, wait until they announce their final expansion and hope they give out all the previous stuff for free...

It might be a few years before you get to play any of that content, but at least you won’t feel like you’re getting screwed, maybe?

Pretty sure you can buy the first three expansions of wow for like $20, not to mention all the other mmos that went f2p, I think you’re just trolling.

Wow is pre selling their next expansion and if you buy pre launch then you get Legion (current expansion) for free.

OP probably never played MMO's before with expansions (chapters).

Admittedly I didn't read the entire post but I just wanted to show a different angle to what I think you were getting at.

    I think your points were:
    1. Players paid for Morrowind.
    2. Players pay for Summerset and receive Morrowind for free.
    3. Anger at being treated unfairly.

Point 1: Morrowind was released on 6/6/2017. Summerset will be released on 5/21/2018. You paid for nearly a year of access. Isn't that worth something?
Point 2: Even if you just bought Morrowind, weren't there some perks you received from having bought MW separately? Mounts? Pets?
Point 3: Why begrudge other people's good fortune at receiving something. MW was worth it to you when you bought it but it's not now?

Too late. If only you had posted this yesterday you might have stopped me from making a dreaded mistake by spending $40.

Nah - who are we kidding. I'm an adult. $40 is beer and pizza for one weekend - and I don't boycott my favorite beer and pizza if they go on sale on Mondays the day after I pay full price. That would be pretty stupid.

If you had been here from launch you would have known this was going to happen. This is ZOS's DNA. So don't blow your stack when this game goes free to play down the road.

Veteran player here. I'm buying Summerset. No problem at all that new players can get into ESO and get additional content that I paid full price for.

Then again, perhaps I have an understanding mindset because that's just the way economics works. You paid top dollar to get the brand new designer jeans first. Those same jeans go on the discount rack as time goes on. that's just the way it is and I applaud zenimax for rewarding new players for giving ESO a shot.

No, Blizzard has been doing it since their 2nd expansion. Burning Crusade (first expansion) got rolled into the base when Wrath came out.

New players to the game only had to buy the base + current expansion.

And Blizzard also did it with their other games via "Battle Chest" packages.

u got morrowind as soon as it came out. That's what u paid for. Stop crying about it, jfc. If you want it for free then wait 1 year or so for the next chapter, or wait 3 years and get all the chapters.

Orrrr buy it when it comes out and enjoy it when it's new, like most people do. Stop being so entitled it's lameeeeee

No other MMO, or any other game at all, offers content it cost them millions of dollars to make for free to some people, and not the others.

No I have not read all 4 pages, but I just had to respond to this. Have you ever heard of the small itty bitty MMO called World of Warcraft? You know, the MMO made by the small Indie developer Blizzard...

WoW has an expansion around every 2 years or, and this expansion cost's $40 US or so upon release, and then gets marked down and goes on sale as time goes on. Then the next expansion comes out and what happens to the previous expansion? It gets added to the base game and is no longer buyable.

What does this mean? It means anyone who owns the base game gets the expansion for FREE ~2 years after it got released. So the expansions cost some people money, but is free for others. I stopped buying WoW expansions after buying WotLK... yet I have access to Cataclysm expansion, Pandaland expansion & Warlords of Draenor expansion... despite NEVER paying for them (well, apart from subbing to WoW now and again).

So I'm sorry, but you're wrong about "no other MMO doing this". This is actually common business practice with Western MMO's - expansions cost $$$ upon launch, and then when next expansion comes out the previous expansion gets put into the base game and accessible to all.

I'm just gonna wait til it's cheaper or free anyway. I certainly didn't rush out to buy Morrowind, got it for like £16 a few months down the line.

No need for a massive rant lol

Got my Summerset Pre-order. Just as I got my Morrowind Pre-order. As a veteran player. I regret nothing. This market tactic has been a thing since the whole concept of DLC was establish in the mid 2000s. With EA and others. This is standard business practice now.

Now is the wrong time to cry about it. You should have cried about it when it was getting established. Not afterwards.

So many replies, didn't read so someone probably already said this. If we are paying a monthly subscription, we aren't getting Morrowind for free. It is a paid subscription. We won't own like you do, we are basically renting it, and we are fine with it. I've been a subscriber since they birthed eso plus. When was that? When they went live? so I pay around $156/year for at least 2 years at most 4? How again is Morrowind free for me?

The only other MMO I've played is WoW--and they've certainly bundled old expansions with the base game. There's a point at which its less trouble for them to let some players have old content for free than it is to manage a player base in which some players have access to the 2007 expansion and some don't.

I'm not at all upset that some players may get something for free that I paid for (when it was current content) and do plan to buy Summerset.

Yeah, sure, this is fine for those who didn't already fork out up to $120 for Morrowind when you announced it; but those of us who did support you when you created the new content are getting even more screwed over than we were before.

Who in their right mind would pay over $100 for a small game expansion? I pay $30 for the digital upgrade and I'm just fine with that. You think you've been screwed over and deserve reparation for having paid them so much? Maybe you should rethink your financial decisions and then live with them after you make them.
