I've been reading and listening to reviews of the game recently, and every single one has described the store pricing as ludicrously expensive.

Since they depend on the store for their revenue, they are seriously risking the future of the game by overpricing everything.

Nope. Working as designed. They need new designers.

So, I’m confused. I recently got an outfit token for levelling a character. The outfit token is account wide (sits in the currency section of my inventory).

As I’m a costume user primarily, what’s the deal with this token? If I use it will it be locked to that specific character (which is the gist I’m getting from this discussion) or is it an extra outfit for EVERY char once used?

    Thanks.

If I understand you correctly, you have a token to allow you to change your current outfit once. It's a consumable item.

Outfit slots are purchased per character. They're unlocked permanently, but only for ONE character. It still costs gold to change the specifics of the outfit, though. Sometimes tens of thousands of gold. This was done to force people to buy tokens from the store for real money, in order that they can change their outfit without bankrupting their character.

I suspect you have purchased a token for the changing of the outfit, not the slot itself.

As mentioned above, the token just allows you to change your costume once without an associated gold cost. That's all there is to it. The outfit slot is something else entirely.

Yes, people have said they have. Edit: Both knowing they were for a single character, and thinking they were account wide.

Yup, both my wife and I bought several. Call it stupid, we dont care. Spend this week over €500 on food of restaurants, homecooking is a nono. Make good choices in life and you can do the same.

I mean, if you have a ton of disposable income, you do you. It's still quite the ripoff, but I guess if you have the money to spare...

Yes it should be cheaper or account wide but that will probably never happen. For us its just a fun thing to do. My wife goes crazy in spending game related stuff. Ingame and outside the game merchandise. She does just loves that.

Yeah, that's been the case since ESO's launch. It's always been overpriced for what it is. At launch, it was the baffling decision to charge full-price for a copy of the game and then also require a monthly subscription; now, it's the Crown Store that ranges from reasonably priced at the low end to ludicrously overpriced at the high end, with most things falling somewhere in the "this is kinda expensive for what I'm getting" middle.

Yeah. In the last two weeks I've no joke counted five times where I would have bought Outfit Slots if they were account-wide. I'd buy at least 3-4 account wide slots, and I'd probably eventually buy all of them. That's $100+ left on the table there, and I'm just one person.

Well. I've let my subscription run out. For the first time since beta testing, I'm no longer subscribed.

The reason is encapsulated by this issue. The store has become the focus of nearly all the game development (as I predicted when it was introduced), and in addition, everything is ludicrously overpriced.

Many of us have complained in many threads like this one. We've been completely ignored. There has been no communication, no accomodation, no nothing. So, since TALKING isn't producing any results, I am left with only one recourse, to speak with my wallet.

It pains me to do this. You have no idea. I've been playing Elder Scrolls games since Arena. I've spent a LOT of time creating full, detailed characters, with fantastic backstories. I absolutely love the Elder Scrolls series and setting, and I very much want to be part of it... but if my concerns are not worthy even of comment, then I cannot in good conscience support the game any further.

It's a game with so much going for it... and so much potential. But that's all being cast away in favour of their overpriced store. I know it's not the devs themselves. This is a mandate coming down from on high. Nevertheless, if my words are not going to be heard, perhaps my actions will have more value to them.

I am very sad, very angry, and very disappointed. I hope that something... ANYTHING... will be done that will encourage me to resume my subscription. Unfortunately, as I've said elsewhere, I've been on this kind of ride many times before, and I've seen the same pattern play out over and over. So, I'm not optimistic. I hope I'm wrong... but I'm never wrong.

My fingers are crossed. PLEASE give me a reason to resume my sub.

I feel your pain. The person to comment seems to be the ECommerce Director, formerly Lead ECommerce Designer, @ZOS_Ridout . He would be the one to do it, or direct someone to do it. I tag his account here to show that he's been with the game since before launch and has a 5 year badge here on the forum.

While he doesn't have to comment here, it is unfortunate that he never took the opportunity. Pretty much too late, now.

It would be interesting to watch, if he did. The responses would run the whole spectrum, from the people scrambling for the torches and pitchforks, to the people throwing rose petals at his feet and offering to carry his child.

Well, they said on eso live a few weeks back that the vast majority of players only have two charecters, therefore the cost is set with this in mind, if you have a million alts then yes it’s going to be hugely expensive.... but why would you need maxed slots for all of them..............

That's a bit like asking 'why do you need to have all your alts geared up with BiS sets' for someone who PvPs or runs dungeons a lot. Some people like to roleplay, or just play dressup in general.

Hell, I'd be willing to pay 3000 Crowns for account-wide if it was 500 Crowns for a single character. I have 15 characters, so 3000 Crowns would be a reasonable price for me. That way people with only a handful of characters would also have a cheaper option.

See, I do understand it all, but I'm from a different generation of gamers. Hell, I still remember PONG.

Used to be, you paid for the game, and that was all you had to pay for. Patches and fixes were free, though actual expansions were additional costs. That seemed to be as it should be.

Then the stores were introduced, mainly to support a non-sub model. I don't think that's an especially sustainable model, but it is what it is. However, I do feel victimized by it, for two reasons.

First, I'm from that generation that was accustomed to getting everything that I paid for, as I described.
Second, I'm a roleplayer. For adventurers, minmaxers, and "regular" players, the tools of the game are their gear, their skills and so forth. They get that stuff as part of the game, and need not pay anything extra to the store. We roleplayers, however, use emotes, costumes and such things as OUR tools to play the game... but we have to pay extra for them. So, I feel victimized twice over.

Now, I get it. They need to make money, and that means the store. Further, they need to keep the balance of the classes for the sake of PvP (a vain hope if you ask me, considering the variables), and that means not putting things on the store people can "pay to win" with. So I understand it. However, in that case, it comes down to value.

I'm quite willing to pay for extras like costumes, personalities and so forth, but they need to be priced so that I feel I'm getting value for my money. I purchased a collection of hairdos, I believe it was 800 crowns. That gave me something like 50 hairdos (or something like that). So, when a new hairdo is added to the store, and they expect 800 crowns for one or two of them, I consider that price excessive, relative to what I've paid to their own store. However, they can't consider only their own store. They have to consider what is considered fair by the larger market, as has been discussed here already.

If I can buy a costume slot for my WHOLE ACCOUNT at some other game (and there are several) for somewhere around $10, there's no way I should be asked to pay TWICE that for a slot for ONE character (that is lost if the character is deleted for any reason). I look at their price, and consider it to be FAR in excess of what is considered fair value... and I don't buy it.

Now, if I alone was the only one to consider, they would have no issue. However, I'm NOT. MANY players have commented on the costs of many things on the store. Houses are absurdly priced. Costumes, Motifs, Costume Slots, and much more are all extravagantly overpriced, to the point where it has become the subject of discussion and derision in other quarters. I've heard other designers, reviewers and gamers all over the internet who have commented on how overpriced ESO's store is...

And that is costing them business. Their reputation is becoming one of greed and ignorance. It's costing them more and more, and that means it's costing US, the players... eventually it will cost us all EVERYTHING. I'm not saying DOOM now... but that writing is on the wall somewhere down the line.

I love the game. I want to see it do well, but their blindness and ignorance of this problem is staggering, and worries me greatly. I can only hope they see the light before it's too late... if it isn't already.
